I currently make NTSC SVCD's using dvd2avi/avisynth-mpeg2dec/cce. My question is, if I wanted to make XSVCD with 720x480 res, would it be best to continue my current method (minus resizing) or re-encode the video using ReMPEG2? I've been reading the DVD->DVD-R guides and Doom9 uses ReMPEG2 to lower the bitrate of the movie to fit the DVD-R. Is the MPEG2 encoding engine of ReMPEG2 superior to that of CCE? Any comments, questions, or suggestions are welcome.

Rempeg is not even close to to CCE...the reason that they use rempeg2 for DVD to DVDR copying is that rempegs has the ability to resize res & lower bitrate without mesing up Cell IDs within the vob file. This alows for chapter points to remain intact. Last I checked, they have not been able to do this with CCE, believe me, if they could, they would be using CCE...not rempeg2.
