Hi,
I have a few damaged wmv files that MPC can't play.
GOM player and VLC player CAN play them but MPC can't.
What happens is that when MPC comes to the damaged part it freezes, time goes on, so do slider, but there is no sound and there is no video playing anymore.
I have latest K-Lite Mega Codec Pack 4.9.5 and MPCHC 1.2.1008.0 that comes with it.
Everything is at default settings.
If You want to see what I'm talking about, download 35 MB of this movie:
http://files.filefront.com/Dremlock+3wmv/;13808389;/fileinfo.html
Damaged part is at 61th second.
You don't have to download full movie, just 35 MB.
I guess there is some setting in ffdshow or MPC that will prevent MPC from freezing and allow me to play this kind of files.
Thank You!

Use the built-in ASF splitter rather than the Windows one. See if that helps.

Seeking to a position after the damaged/missing section usually works.

@Inspector.Gadget:
Same error.

@clsid:
It works, but I'm looking for more elegant solution.

A more elegant solution is not to play damaged files.

You could try using ffdshow as decoder instead of the standard Microsoft decoder.

repair first with asfbin using a gui such as cut assistant
