Hi all,
I've searched the forum (and the wider web!) for the answer to this, which I'm sure will be a fairly simple question for the knowledgeable folk on here. :-)
I'm trying to find an equivalent MPEG2 encoding setting to CQ 2 in XviD - ie. very good quality, one pass encoding, irrespective of filesize (but using no more than is necessary on a given file). Is CQ 1.0 in Procoder what I'm after?
Many thanks in advance! :thanks:

CQ mode on ProCoder is not really well implemented, if you really want 1 Pass Quality Based MPEG-2 try HCEnc.

Many thanks for your helpful reply. I've tried HCEnc, using a CQ of 5.0 with 9000 max bitrate, and am getting nice results.
Exactly what I was looking for, cheers!

CQ mode on ProCoder is not really well implemented, and the quality in not that good.
Bad in what way, and compared to what?

The quality scale is really bad, using a 0.90 (From 0.00-1.00) you obtain a really low quality, low bitrate output video, but if you use 0.95 suddenly you obtain a high quality, good bitrate video:
Night at the Museum 2 Trailer CQ 0: 8.42 MBs (Unwatchable)
Night at the Museum 2 Trailer CQ 50: 11.0 MBs (Unwatchable)
Night at the Museum 2 Trailer CQ 70: 15.9 MBs(Unwatchable)
Night at the Museum 2 Trailer CQ 75: 17.5 MBs (Unwatchable)
Night at the Museum 2 Trailer CQ 80: 20.9 MBs (Barely watchable)
Night at the Museum 2 Trailer CQ 85: 28.4 MBs (Watchable)
Night at the Museum 2 Trailer CQ 90: 43.3 MBs (Averange Quality)
Night at the Museum 2 Trailer CQ 95: 106 MBs (Very good quality)
Night at the Museum 2 Trailer CQ 100: 115 MBs (Almost Lossless)
CCE is more lineal in this aspect:
Night at the Museum 2 Trailer Q 100: 20.5 MBs (Barely watchable)
Night at the Museum 2 Trailer CQ 50: 29.5 MBs (Barely watchable)
Night at the Museum 2 Trailer CQ 30: 39.3 MBs (Averange Quality)
Night at the Museum 2 Trailer CQ 25: 43.4 MBs (Averange Quality)
Night at the Museum 2 Trailer CQ 20: 48.9 MBs (Good Quality)
Night at the Museum 2 Trailer CQ 15: 56.2 MBs (Good Quality)
Night at the Museum 2 Trailer CQ 10: 65.5 MBs (Good Quality)
Night at the Museum 2 Trailer CQ 5: 76.7 MBs (Very good quality)
Night at the Museum 2 Trailer CQ 1: 86.7 MBs (Very good quality)

Ah, like their gaussian noise filter with a 0-32 pixel radius. So the useful range was about the first three pixels of the slider :).

Fixed .
