I currently have the latest XviD build from Koepi.info (1.2.2-07062009). I'm trying to encode a movie to 1 CD and it keeps giving me a file size well below 1/2 CD. I uninstalled 1.2.2 and tried encoding with 1.0.3 (installed from GK Codec Pack installer) and got a file size of 703 MB, perfect. I have log files from three encodes, but before I post them I'd like to find out if GK should work with the latest build. Has anyone here successfully used GK with XviD 1.2.2?

Hi,
Has anyone here successfully used GK with XviD 1.2.2?
Xvid 1.2.2 is too new, I have seen no feedback for GK yet.
Maybe the undersize is related to VAQ introduced since rev 1.2.127 see:

Have you tried to compare visually your below 1/2CD xvid 1.2.2 file to the same source encoded to 703MB with Xvid 1.0.3 ?
In Autogk, the size difference between older xvid rev (no VAQ) and newer (with VAQ) is roughly between 15 and 20%.
Visually, it may be equivalent, in some case older Xvid is a bit better, in some case newer Xvid is a bit better, but you gain up to 20% size with the newer one and you get more undersized files !

The latest version of Xvid doesn't support VfW, which is what Gordian Knot needs to function correctly. I'm also using 1.0.3 (or did until I switched to x264).

CWR03, does that include 1.2.1 as well? Both 1.2.1-VAQ and 1.2.2 give me a file sized at exactly 265,527,296 bytes after a 2 pass encode targeted at 700 MB (and yes, visually the undersized files are much poorer quality than the 703 MB file I got from 1.0.3). If 1.0.3 is the only one that will give me a correct encode then I have no problem using it, but I was frustrated with the undersized files because I hadn't seen any documentation stating that GK wouldn't work correctly with newer XviD versions.

1.0.3 is the latest release that still supports VfW.
If 1.0.3 is the only one that will give me a correct encode then I have no problem using it, but I was frustrated with the undersized files because I hadn't seen any documentation stating that GK wouldn't work correctly with newer XviD versions.
That's because the last update of Gordian Knot or any of its documentation was long before the release of 1.0.3, however it has been mentioned a number of times in this sub-forum.

After more extensive searching on the oversize/undersize problem, I tried switching profiles in XviD 1.2.2 from Simple@L0 to AS@L5 and *it worked perfectly* :) To test that this was my solution, I switched back to Simple@L0 and it resulted in an undersized file again.
I've done three encodes so far with 1.2.2 at the AS@L5 setting and they all hit their target perfectly.

simple profile at level 0 is quite crippled... unless you need simple@L0.
usually AS@L5 is the standard. DivX certified devices use a subset of AS@L5. Some versions/builds of xvid come with DivX profiles.

if profiles are the issue, just don't use them. I can confirm that xvid (unristricted) works great with GK & has no undersize problems.
btw, if u're concerned about standalones...i can recommend u a really cheap 1: xwave. It plays everything that xvid has to offer.

I don't have a standalone, so I'm dumping Simple@L0 in favor of AS@L5 or maybe even unrestricted since they both seem to work flawlessly. I didn't understand the profiles at first, but :search: has enlightened me just a little bit.
