hi,
Gknot gives me that message in its Encoding Queue:
____
06:46:31: Started DivX3-First Pass: D:\DVD\The Rock\the_rock192.avs
12:19:12: Finished DivX3-First Pass. Duration: 5 hours, 32 minutes, 41 seconds.
12:19:14: Speed: 9.384 Frames per Second.
12:19:15: ERROR: Calculation impossible! Desired Video Size is bigger than First Pass (= maximum divx-size for this filter-combination). To solve this you can: 1) lower your Total Size. 2) lower your Video Size (e.g. add bigger audio). 3) do another first pass at a higher resolution or with other filters.
12:19:15: ERROR: Please read the included How-To to understand better what happened!
12:19:15: WARNING: Encoding continued anyway.
12:19:15: WARNING: Filesize will be approximately 268584 kb lower than desired (but best possible quality for this filter combination).
12:19:15: WARNING: Thats an average bitrate of 1751 k(=1024)bit/sec (=the highest possible bitrate)
12:19:15: WARNING: instead of 2038 k(=1024)Bits/s (=your desired bitrate).

Can anyone tell me what the problem his and a solution maybe ;) ?

This pretty much says it all:

But a further explanation might be in order: The clip compresses so well that you can't get such a large file as you would like with the current filters and resolution. If you are using some form of noise reduction then you could try removing it. Or increase the resolution: If you are using 640x224 then you could try 704x288.
You simply ended up with a file that was much smaller than intended. Are you trying to do a 2CD rip? In that case go for a single CD.

increasing resolution to 704x288?
he's using divx3, isn't divx3 known for having probs at higher resolutions?

well, I am makeing a 3 CD Rip of "The Rock" ;)
Well, as the Bits*(Pixel*Frame) was over 110% I thought about some "problems" ;)
So, if I understand you right I can push up my resolution to come below 100%, cant I?
But then the big question:
Is it allowed to push the "W-Zoom" (GKnot -> Resolution -> Output Resolution) higher than 100% ? Or will I get some difficulties in the end, if I do it that?

@zulu: Never had any problems, even at 704x576@25fps.

@yosemite: It is never recommended to increase the original size. There is however no theoretical problems with doing so, but quality will suffer. There just isn't enough information to make a good increase of size. If you are already using 704xyyy or 720xzzz then I'd say: Go for 2CDs.

That's what Gknot is telling me.
I was doing the job with DivX3!
Is it true that 1751 is the highest possible bitrate? if yes: why?

I got this same sort of error while doing a 2-CD rip of X-Men. I wanted to do a 1772kbps encoding, and it encoded at 1723kbps or so, citing that same error.

so, does that mean that these values are really the highest possibles video-bitrates Gknot can do?

It means that for your chosen resolution, filters etc. that you will get highest quality with bitrate xxx. Increasing the bitrate won't give you a better quality output.
I believe it has to do with the DRF equaling 2 at the bitrate given. Somebody please correct me if I have erred here.

try 1:1 ratio encoding :)

hey yosemite, what's wrong with you?
why do ask the same question again in a third thread????
please don't do that again, next time i will simply delete your thread.
merging this thread with the first one.
