On many treads of this forum I read about
an actual movies resolutions of 352x176 or so
on a 352x288 MPEG1 file ("AddBorders" at Top and Bottom).
Why you should do this ? Aspect Ratio COMPATIBILITY ?
I've tested a 1024x576 (16:9) 25 fps rendered avi file:
resizing this to 720x576 in VirtualDub and then
encoding in CCE ( checked 16:9 AspectRatio ), MPEG2 format
...BTW CCE didn't accept bigger resolutions...
and then I have a try some DirectShow MPEG2 decoder filters:
PowerDVD 4 XP -> correct AR,correct Resolution- THE BEST !
WinDVD 2.6 - 3.0 -3.1 -> correct AR
Cinemaster v.?? -> correct AR
Elecard mpeg decoder 1.17 - 1.40beta -> not correct AR(4:3),but usefull for interlaced output to TV (Matrox G400-450DualHead)
Darim Vision MPEG2-2 player -> not correct(4:3)
Xing DVD Player 2.03 -> not correct(4:3)
Ligos Mpeg2decoder v.1.3.0.82 -> not correct(4:3)
... and DVD2AVI 1.74-1.76 - > not correct AR ??? (1.66 instead of 1.77..)
Next I resized the same avi to 352x288(VirtualDub) and then encode in CCE in MPEG1 format (AR-16:9)
results:
Windows 98SE -Windows Media Player 6.4 - correct AR at FullScreen
Windows XP -Windows Media Player 6.4 - correct AR at FullScreen
Windows XP -Windows Media Player 8.0 - NOT correct AR at any mode (but who use this peace of s**t
PowerDVD - perfect ...
I GUESS 352x288 IS BETTER THAN 32x16 if you plan to watch a movie ?
... I don't know if the standalone hardware players can play VCDs with AR 16:9 ???
Senior legman,
what you see-know-say about Hollywood+ and MPEG1-2 fies with aspect ratios different from 4:3 ?
... and finaly, the same idea can be used in avi files - there ar many players and filters (DivXG400,VobSub) with Aspect Ratio "extras" ,
so what you thing about "512x384_AR2.35x1.avi" instead of "640x272_SquarePixels.avi" ... or not to resizing at all !!!
