Hi;
I bought 25 DVD-R discs, but it is really bad quality.
I'm looking for cheap but good quality discs.
Is there any recommendation?
Thanks,

Can you tell us what type of media the bad ones were, and where you got them from so we can avoid them too?

For my money Apple sells the best at $5 a piece in quantites of 5 plus free shipping, they do charge tax though but it's still less than $27.

Check out http://www.meritline.com they have General v2.0 DVD with the gold backing for $3.69 each (when purchasing a 25 pack). They were originally $4.75 each back in early December of last year so buy too many like I did, the prices are dropping almost every week. They do carry the silver DVD's for less money but I don't recommend buying them (I didn't bother spending the money to try them).

These discs are pretty decent on my Malta but they pixelate on my Panasonic so depending on what stand alone you are using these may or may not be good for you. I still preffer the Apple ones, I have less trouble with them than anything.

Hmmm... The price drops begin, I just went to this site and there are two different kinds of DVD-Rs for under $3.00us. That's good news.

It's actually only one brand for under $3, one is just jewl cased and the other is bulk packed.

Thanks guys.
I bought non-brand discs. The seller says the manufacturer
of the discs is Pioneer.
Because I just bought a Pioneer A03 DVD burner.
I thought it will work great.
First I burned a movie on a DVD-RW and it worked fine.
Then I tried the DVD-R discs which I bought at eBay.
Until now, I burned 4 DVD-Rs and all of them have
different problems. Some are not recongnized as DVD
and some are freezed in the middle of the movie.
I will try Apple one or Meritline one.
Thanks,

These discs I mentioned work well. All my friends who borrow them say they play just fine on thier settop players(kenwood, pioneer...etc).

One question.
Can the apple DVD-R or the Meritline DVD-R be burned with 2x
speed with Pioneer A03 ?
Thanks,

Sure, I burn Apple blanks with 2x speed in Prassi PrimoDVD. Pioneer DVR-A03/firmware 1.65.

Only media that is certified by Pioneer can write at 2x. Meritline can not.

Does anyone have any insight into where I might find a hacked/patched version of the Pioneer A03 firmware that will disable this ridiculous "certified" 2X lookup?

I have a Pioneer A03 and have no problem burning thier DVD-R's at 2x speeds (I use the more expensive gold backing 25 pack -> $3.69 a piece)at the time of this post. Thier prices are comming down every other week it seems.

CZ: are you sure that it's recording at 2X?? If so, I'll try them. I have some media from cd-recordable.com that shows it's recording at 2X but is really only recording at 1x.

I have some of the gold-backed Meritline DVD-Rs. Just like the cd-recordable cds, they say 2X while burning, but the clock proves it wrong. It takes 60 minutes -- that's 1X.

I had other burning software installed (after I install Prassi Primo 2.0) which somehow caused it to "slow down". I re-installed Prassi primo software and it fixed the problem. Try this first.........
