Hello All,

I decided to not use any Codec anymore:p,because of many problems.

I have never used ffdshow,I want to start using it and hopefully I make the right move, here I need your guys help to chose the right ffdshow for my CPU (AMD Athlon 3200+ :p),I have tried yesterday to download the ffdshow from sourcefoge, and there were too many of them, and I'm totally confuse to which one should I get. And please point me to which other software do I need to avoid any decoding or encoding problem, like Hali Media or ...

Thanks in advance.

You need to provide detailed informations about your system (like graphics card, operating system version, which player you use) as well as the types of files you play generally.

Get this:
K-Lite CP Standard (http://www.codecguide.com/download_k-lite_codec_pack_standard.htm)

Media Player Classic, ffdshow, and Haali Media Splitter. All in one idiot proof package.

Hello All,

I decided to not use any Codec anymore

Then get MPlayer (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=138725) or VLC (http://www.videolan.org/) and no more need of external Codecs/Plugins/Filters. It's that easy ;)

I have tried yesterday to download the ffdshow from sourcefoge, and there were too many of them, and I'm totally confuse to which one should I get.

Get the latest (highest rev number) build from the "generic build" release in the "clsid" package. That one should work on any CPU:

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=173941&package_id=199416&release_id=439904

clsid thanks allot for sugestion, may I ask you, is codec back are save to use,as you already know some of people says codec backs are trouble makers and not recommend it,but i would like to hear from you guys how much this is true.

The Codec Pack that clsid recommended should be okay, because it just contains the things you actually will need. Not a load of unneeded stuff to mess up your system.

But of course you also simply download latest ffdshow, media player classic and haali's splitter from their individual web-sites instead of the package and get the same result.

Will MPlayer or VLC solve a sort of problems with VirtualDubMod when loading script? as I remember once I had the problem,I had installed ffdshow, haali's splitter and mpc-hc by that time when i was trying to load the script with VDM,I was getting errors.

Do I need to install and reinstall when the new version release for ffdshow?
And which version of haali's spiltter should I use?

Thanks in advance!

MPlayer and VLC are player applications. The have exactly nothing to do with VirtualDub(Mod).

And since VirtaulDub uses the VFW (Video for Windows) interface, it neither has anything to do with ffdshow, haali's splitter or media player classic!
Only ffvfw, the VFW part that ships with ffdshow, can interact with VirtualDub. But certainly none of the other tools you mention.

BTW: Stop using an outdated in discontinued dinosaur like VirtualDubMode, update to latest VirtualDub!

Do I need to install and reinstall when the new version release for ffdshow?

You can simply install a new veriosn of ffdshow and it will replace the old version. No need to uninstall ffdshow, before uninstalling a new version.

And which version of haali's spiltter should I use?

The latest!?

update to latest VirtualDub!
means experimental?

Even the latest "stable" release of VirtualDub is MUCH newer than VirtualDubMod. The latter was not updated for half a decade, as the project is dead!

And if you need the very latest features/fixes, get the latest "experimental" release of VirtualDub. It works pretty stable for me ;)

appreciate if you point me to the right link

The latest official release of VirtualDub is available from the VirtualDub web-site:
http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/

as same for haali's spiltter.

For Haali Splitter, I already had the link in my previous post :sly:

Use whatever suits your needs best ;)

MPC-HC has a lot of decoders & splitters built-in. So when using the "Home Cinema" edition, you will be fine even without ffdshow and Haali most of the time.

Note that you must disable MPC-HC's internal decoders to make use of ffdshow, Haali and friends...

Latest MPC-HC builds:
http://www.xvidvideo.ru/content/category/1/1/2/

And here you find a recent build if the "classic" Media Player Classic:

Should i install 1th Xvid than VirtualDub or it doesn't matter which one first to install?

It doesn't matter. VirtaulDub will search for installed VFW Codecs at runtime.

wouldn't this make problem when i install Xvid and ffdshow,I mean I want Xvid for encoding.

No it doesn't. Xvid and ffdshow can be installed in parallel just fine.

They will appear as separate entries in VirtualDub's "Select video compression" dialog ;)

Basically if you are not sure, get the latest stable version from the official webpage. Since original ffdshow and MPC projects are stopped, get ffdshow-tryouts and MPC-HC instead of them. When dealing with videos in VirtualDub, don't forget to install and tweak the VfW part of ffdshow.

Could you please help me on what do i need to tweak in vfw parts of ffdshow.

Rockfish> You should adjust which codecs (or more exactly FourCC codes) should be decoded by ffdshow. For example you can adjust ffdshow to decode files created by XviD or you can leave it up to the original XviD codec. I would enable DV, MJPEG and all RAW formats in ffdshow VfW decoder. But it is up to you and your preferences. But if you get a message from VirtualDub or AviSource in Avisynth that it cannot find a suitable codec for your video, try to find the FourCC code and enable it in ffdshow VfW.
