it was just a matter of time though it will still take till the beginning of next year before it's gonna be released, a long time for Silverlight to come up with it also (the Moonlight team already works on VDPAU support) ;)
No stucky browser anymore prioritization problems and so on, thing of the past and important for the next Generation of fluid web browsing and entertainment consumption in a multi tabbed enviroment (of course also enhancing battery time once more) :)
I guess many security experts though going to make Nvidia aware of what these means in future attack vectors, to don't miss the security aspect of the development.

great news for ION platform. Youtube HD with single core Atom should be possible now.

its nice to see companies do things that make sense now and then

It is already possible you can analyse youtubes code and get the cache URI and send that (MP4) to for example the Windows Media Firefox Plugin that would playback it Accelerated this way you can circumvent the Flash Player (you just manipulate youtubes DOM localy) :) So as soon you would enter a youtube HD video instead of the Flash Player Windows Mediaplayer Plugin would come up opening the MP4 ;)

that's a little too much for me, I'm not a coder yet

Instead of jumping on this "lol gpu" bandwagon, how about Adobe fixes their software engine so that it isn't ungodly slow.

@thewebchat: Agree.
Flash could easily use 2x less CPU time, especially when it upscales. Still, that'll be good news for nVidia later since they'll be able to claim even higher "x times faster" numbers ;)
Indeed. All of the Flash software players I've seen skip frames like crazy and exhibit monster tearing artifacts.

It's strange coincidence that Adobe push GPU acceleration in the same moment when Mozilla tries to come out with its own online player.
I think Adobe already had it and just waited for right moment.
Excelent politics.
