Couldn't help notice that when using BD-RB v.2.201, x264 gobbles up almost 100% of CPU and doesn't release any for other programs.
Am I wrong in believing/remembering that earlier versions were much more willing to share, so that multitasking was feasible?

I haven't noticed x264 acting any differently then in previous versions, are you setting idle priority?

x264 will consume all CPU time it can get, given it isn't bottlenecked by slow input. The distribution of CPU time among several process that all are ready to execute is done by the OS scheduler.
So if you don't want x264 to get any CPU time that could have been assigned to other processes, you must lower x264's priority to "below normal" or even "idle".

@turbojet
You hit the nail on the head ;>}
For previous versions of BD-RB, priority was set to "Idle". For version 2.201 it's set to "Normal".
Thank you.

It's because the ini that isn't included anymore. Maybe jdobbs could change x264 to idle priority by default?

It has always been set to NORMAL as the default. I just stopped shipping an INI in the ZIP file.
It takes only two clicks to set it to IDLE priority if needed -- and it will stay that way until you change if back or delete the INI.
I like IDLE better so I'll set it as the default in the next release.
