ok, I got the itch to upgrade and have given in. I am building an XP2000 system and need suggestions for some of the components. This system is aimed at video capture, encoding, and DVD authoring. I plan on 1 gig of PC2700 DDR, a 46GB IBM for system and programs, and two 40 gig Maxtors in a RAID 0 array for vid cap and processing. The Video is going to be the Radeon 8500 retail.

I need a suggestion for a good stable Mobo with reliable onboard RAID and ample O/C capabilities, and for a DVD burner that will accept most media and uses a format that most stand-alone players will accept. Will most DVD burners also burn standard 800mb CD-Rs? I'd hate to have to buy 2 burners.

thanks,
C-B

I've been thinking about the same kind of system (but my cash in being dumped into a home theatre instead..).

Quick Q though...isn't it better to buy a stand-alone RAID card (promise for example or SCSI if yer itching to burn cash), rather than on-board? That way you can adjust drivers for your card as they change etc...

I thought the 'don't buy integrated stuff' rule applied to mobos too...no?

I don't know... this is my first foray into Raid arrays... I'm looking for experienced opinions so I can avoid the "Duh, why did I buy that?" syndrome. Looks like I am going with the Asus G-force3 Deluxe instead of the Radeon. No video inputs on the standard 8500 and the all in wonder is too pricy for an ATI card.
