ok...i have done about 10 rips so far and all of the sudden i'm having massive speed problems. CCE will start to make the .vaf ,speed used to be about .7-.8, and now the speeed is down to .1-.2. i dont know what happened, i am running winXP Home Edition and the newest DVD2SVCD. when i check CPU usage in XP, it says about 15% of the computer is being used, shouldnt it be using a lot more than this? i have a 1.7 ghz pentium 4 processor. this is really killing me when i takes 3 days to do a rip, any help is appreciated, thanks.

you can also IM me on aim at: hckystud21

thx again.

There's a separate thread on similar issues:

Speed : Duron 900Mhz to Athlon XP 1800 !??!?!?!? (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=13432)

Certainly sounds like something is wrong with your computer.
Grab a copy of Sisoft Sandra 2002 and do the memory and CPU benchmarks.

Have you ever thought about removing CCE and re-installing it?

Do you have enough space free on drive C: for your virtual mem?

How much free do you have on Drive C:?

Did you happen to tweak any XP settings?

Are you running any type of motherboard monitor?

Did you install anything between the rips that where fast and slow?

You never mentioned how much memory you have or what type of computer it is(motherboard etc...).

Info just saying my system doesn't work doesn't give anyone anything to go on.

i have done this twice, both w/ no success

Do you have enough space free on drive C: for your virtual mem?
yes, i have 27 free GB...i dont know about virtual mem though

How much free do you have on Drive C:?
27 gigs out of 80 total

Did you happen to tweak any XP settings?
only the font (made it clear type)

Are you running any type of motherboard monitor?
just the CPU monitor that comes w/ winXP

Did you install anything between the rips that where fast and slow?
well, i never thought of this, but yes...i installed a lot of divx apps as well as winvnc (i'll remove them now)

You might wanna add another 128 or even better 256megs of ram:)

how much would that cost me?

Cost of memory depends on what type you need.
If it's Rambus you are looking at around $80-$100 for 256mb and $40-$50 for 128mb.
If it's PC133 SDRAM your looking at $45-$55 for 256mb and $30-$40 for 128mb or you can just buy one of my spare sticks for $20 shipped if your in the US :D.

Depends on the type of ram your using. If you are using like Sdram then its cheap for a 256megs would be 33.00 plus shipping so 40.00 around that. Rambus ram is more but either way its not 2 bad:). Well worth the increase in speed ect. Also not sure how long you have had your computer but most computer geeks will tell you ..that if you have not re done your system in 5 months or so you should helps speed things up. But still you need ram 128 is really pushing things anyways..all your other stats look good tho.

go to "pricewatch" you can look at ram prices yourself if you dont know what type you use ...you could find out the maker of the computer and the model of the computer and go on there site, look up your board...and it will tell you what type you have for sure...then just head of 2 pricewatch with your information your set.

I'd uninstall WinVNC if I were you, or at least uninstall the service, and only run in in app mode when you need it, if possible.

You still haven't told me anything.

What are the numbers from Sandra for memory and CPU?
Each will give you two numbers.

I agree that you need more memory.

You may want to do a wipe of you OS and start from scratch. I do that at least every 6 months if not sooner.

Go hit the hardware forums and see what you can learn from reading over there. Try www.anandtech.com for one.

Have you uninstalled everything that was mentioned yet?
