Well perhaps you should try the divx forums :p

BTW something tells me this is LOTR related...

You might be onto something there Mathew :)

Basically its because personally i don`t think svcd is designed to be played on a pc, most certainly not in windows xp pro that is for sure.

I couldn`t play the cds in any software, windows struggled like mad to play em. Not a prayer with bsplay,wmp-xp,powerdvd-xp4 it just cocked up windows xp.

However copying the mpegs to the harddisk solved the problem, and they play fine from the mpegs in all of the software that wouldn`t work before. As I understand svcd writes data to cdr where error correction data would be stored which explains why 800mb+ can be stored on 700mb cdrs.

So ideally i`d like to join mpg1 and mpg2 together and then divx em, to 1 cd and the same for mpg3 and mpeg4.

Thats fine, but this is not a Divx forum. This is a SVCD forum and not just a SVCD forum, but a particular piece of software forum.
There are several Divx forums on Doom9 I suggest you try one of those.
Seriously this is way Off topic here.

Jeez, no need to get shirty about it mate.

It seems to me like you`re not very instrested in getting new people into the scene with a attitude like that.

well.. don't think it's off topic.. after all the target format is divx. Just visit my page and look for the format conversion guides.. they tell you all you need to know about svcd -> divx conversion (and backwards, and the same goes for vcds)

Assuming you're doing it from the same 4 files I think you're talking about :) it's fairly easy. I made them into 2 DivX CD's with very good quality. You can actually do it straight from Gordian Knot. Just name the 4 MPEG's consecutively and then open the first one in DVD2AVI. Save the project and open it from Gordian Knot. The only problem I had was that the audio didn't work correctly. I had to use BeSweet to manually decode the MPA file that DVD2AVI de-muxed. After that, you can do a normal 2-pass encode in Gordian Knot with audio done however you like. My results were extermely good.
