"Castaway" I found will not playback audio after ripping the DVD. Again, I tried different ripping techniques but with no luck. The other two movies I came across with the same problem was "Remembering the titans" & "Fantasia". Any ideas what to do???

Try using a different version of SmartRipper.

When you play the original dvds in you PC, does sound come out?

Have the ripps (vobs) sound? Perhaps you have to brun an empty Audio_ts folder to DVD-R for Compatibility?

These are VOB's that are on my HD, I always play them first before I burn, this is a good practice!

I'm glad it's not just me - I have the same problem on Castaway. I'm currently using the latest s.r. and IFOEdit - I'm trying it again tonight and selecting all audio tracks in case it makes a difference. Have you made any progress on it? I don't really care for this movie, I'm more concerned with why this problem occuring.

P.S. - I always burn an empty AUDIO_TS directory - it made no difference on this movie.
Thx

I tried everything again, this time ripping all the audio tracks. The first (main) english track still didn't work but all the others did. The good news is I can switch to one of the other english tracks, the bad news is I still don't know why it wouldn't work in the first place.

What I did was rip the movie entirely, that means all the audio tracks, nothing taken out. I tried to play it using PowerDVD (3.0) and all I get is picture no sound. Can you elaborate on what you did. Thanks!!!!

Because of the size of the movie I had to divide it up into two DVDr so I used Smart Ripper (would normally use DVDDcrypter):
1. Rip first half of chapters to one folder
2. Rip second half of chapters to a second folder
2b. Create blank VOB files for any missing in the second folder
3. Copy the video_ts files to both new folders directly from the DVD (be sure to uncheck "read only" under properties on these or IFOEdit won't work properly)
4. Run IFOEdit (used 82b) on the first folder and selected all options under VOB Extras except remux
5. When IFOEdit shows all the audio and subs to strip only two boxes will be checked, I checked all of them (since you're dividing up the movie, file size no longer matters).
6. Let IFOEdit do its thing
7. Burn to DVDr

When I play the movie it automatically selects the first audio track which is still blank but now I can change to any of the others without a problem and they work fine. There's probably a way to eliminate the blank track and make the 2nd english track the default but I haven't fooled around with it.

Hope this helps.

You said that when you ripped "Castaway" again with all the audio tracks (I did the same originally) that you were able to switch from one audio track to another, how did you do that. Can you redefine which is the primary audio track??? Please explain.........

I kept all audio tracks when ripping with Smartripper and also checked off all audio tracks in IFOEdit (by default it only selects the first english), as long as you do that all the audio tracks should end up in the final files. Then once it's on my standalone (Sony) I change the settings from the first audio track (by default 6 channel english) to the 2nd English channel. All players are different buy I believe any of them will allow you to change the audio track you are listening to.

I'd really like to find out if there is away to edit one of the IFO files to make the 2nd English track the 1st so I don't have to change anything on the hardware.

if you use SmartRipper in Movie mode and strip streams there,

your main ac3 channel has to be mapped to x80.

sometimes this happens:
ac3-2channel = x80
ac3-6channel = x81

if you only want the 6 channel (which is all i grab), uncheck the 2-channel, check the 6 channel....to the right of this, click "map to" and map the 6channel to x80.

plus you need the video and "Others" also.

so here it is....check the following streams:
video
ac3-6channel
Others
