View Full Version : non-mod4 files showing "bad" color.

I recently found out that this bad color occurs only on non-mod4 (not divisible by 4) files. For example a video is encoded at 852x362 to maintain the 2.35 ratio and the width in even number so anamorphic is not necessary. However when I playback using Media Player Classic, I get this kind of pictures:

I'm using CoreAVC and CoreAAC. Desktop resolution is 1280x1024 as it sometimes might matter.

Virtually every avisynth filter, desktop codec needs at a minimum mod4 resolution.

... AT LEAST mod4. some filters require mod16...

So, even if you feed x264 video that's not mod4 / mod8 or whatever, doesn't it pad internally?
In other words... shouldn't this kind of thing not occur?
I'm assuming the input video didn't look like this..

Yes, but the problem is most likely caused by something else before the video is fed to (lib)x264. VLC's resize filter, for example
