View Full Version : MPC-HC Internal VobSub Subtitle Renderer

[join date = 2004...and this is my first post. lmfao.]
I have been using the MPC-HC internal subtitle renderer with the option "Position subtitles relative to the video frame" (Options>Subtitles>Default Style). This works fine with srt and others; however, with a VobSub .sub/.idx, it does not appear to work (Subtitles now overlap the black bars when fullscreen).
Additionally, I have noticed that, despite a DVD/OGM default subtitle language preference set to English, it does not apply to VobSub subtitles.
Is there some way to enable this? Is there a way to disable the internal renderer specifically for VobSub (yet still utilize it for all other subs)? The latter question seems like more of a work-around that I would like to shy away from.

VobSubs can contain positioning information. That overrides your settings.
The DVD/OGM settings only apply to DVDs and OGM files ;) I suggest you post a feature request on the project page.

Thanks for your reply. I realize that the VobSubs have their own positioning; however, when utilizing DirectVobSub, I was able to at least position in relationship to the video. At the moment, as stated, the VobSubs overlap the black bars, and the subtitles are too low to read and watch the video simultaneously. Additional, I realize I can manually override the placement; however, this is tedious when watching many different videos, and I wish to have the same result as DirectVobSub.
Essentially what I'm asking is, is there a way to do this, or is it another feature which I should request/demand/pray for? lol

That does the trick for me:
Options -> Subtitles -> Default Style -> check "Position subtitles relative to the video frame"

From the perspective of DirectVobSub those black bars do not exist. They get added at a later stage in the video renderer.
The internal subtitle renderer works differently. That sends the processed subtitle data to the video renderer separately from the video. They are then merged together in the video renderer.
The setting that allak pointed out allows you to control the relative positioning of the subtitles. Either relative to just the video or to the whole window (including black bars).

Yeah, and does this work with VobSubs for you? Mine doesn't. That's why this thread is here.
@clsid
I realize all that. It's not a hard concept. Also, allak didn't point it out...I did. :( That's what I have been using (see above). It works with other subtitles except VobSub. That's my point. It seems that MPC-HC's subtitle support is not completely inclusive of VobSub? The position relative to video feature isn't working on VobSub?

My fault. Didn't read back the entire thread.
I will try this at home this evening.

it's also an issue with DVD and BD sup files. They also are positioned lower then they should be and stretched vertically in fullscreen mode. The option allak mentions completely changes the position and font.
I brought this same issue up about 6 months ago on here and in the sourceforge bug tracker so I wouldn't get your hopes up on a fix any time soon although they have been working on subtitle issues lately.
