I've been reading theres things you can add to force the youtube video to be in higher quality. My question is I'm not sure if it still uses the flash codec or mp4. Is there any compatiblity issues like people need alot stronger cpus to decode it?

Are you confusing HQ with HD? For the red HQ button, anyone with just about any computer and anything faster than dialup can get to play smoothly. Most of the Hi-Def stuff they have doesn't play smoothly, probably because they can't serve it up fast enough. Download it and, depending on the CPU (you don't need the latest and greatest), it should play fine. After all, they only use a 2000 bitrate for the Hi-Def stuff. They have a ton of different formats, some still experimantal, so it's hard to be specific there
