View Full Version : End of movies are missing !!

Hi,
I have the problem, that always the ends of movies are missing, when the movie is more than 2 hours long. I have this problem since the new 1.0.6 release.
When a movie is about 2 hours and 10 minutes, I don't want to use 3 CD's. That's why I changed the bitrate settings from 125 minutes to 150 minutes for 800 CDs.
Can that be a problem ?? Or does somebody else have this problem too ?
In Armageddon there are maybe 15 minutes are missing, in the Bonecollector are 5 minutes, and in the Sixth Sense are 8 minutes are missing.
Hmmmmm ?? I just don't know what I can do ??
Thanx for your help !!
Rene

does it look any good? I'd go with 3 cds though if I were you. You don't like taking 2 bathroom breaks or what's your problem?

I think your problem lies with your choice of two audio streams. In next version it will be fixed. I'm downloading 1.0.6. build 2-pre 1; I'll try it and report back. In the mean time you can try it with only one audio stream.

There's another thing that may be related -- the latest build (1.0.6 b 1) enforces a cut on all muxes. So if you have 3 800 MB CDs, bbMPEG will be called with a cutoff of 795 MB for all 3 mux operations. This sometimes works fine, but sometimes results in the tail end of the encode being lost. I typically lose about a minute.
My fix for this is to run DVD2SVCD as usual, then edit the bbMPEG .ini file, changing the 795 to zero, and run bbMPEG manually -- this will remux the last CD. Then do a crash restart from SVCD Authoring.

Hi fgm!
Do you have a link for the Pre-Release of 1.0.6B2?
Thanks!

hi everybody!!
i've got a similar problem. i recently encoded my first movie with dvd2svcd, and discovered that the end (~10secs of the movie +end credits)wasn't encoded. Yes, it wasn't even encoded... i opened the "bbMPEG_Muxed_File01.mpg" in WMP and the movie was cut off there as well.
the movie is 96 minutes long (at least thats the length it should have)
i also used 2 audio streams (which were encoded correctly) and 2 subtitles. unfortunatley i don't know which program started to cut the movie off, because it was ripped completely. IMHO everything points to bbmpeg.
i hope that somebody here can help me.

@freak
This is exactly what happens to me on about 50% of all encodes.
The material actually is encoded -- you need to look in your .mpv files to see the encoded video, not the MPEG file. What happens is that when it gets multiplexed, bbMPEG is told to cut things off at 795 MB (or whatever your CD size is, minus a bit) and sometimes this cuts off some seconds at the end.
The workaround is to rerun bbMPEG manually, load up the bbMPEG .ini file (in your output directory), change the MPEG cutoff size from 795 (or whatever) to zero, and redo the last multiplex. Then do a crash restart from SVCD Authoring.

Could you try this version. It shouldn't chop the end anymore. But please let me know if it does. And if it does, please attach your dvd2svcd.ini file here so I can see what settings you're using.

18hrs 31mins to encode 3 passes!
christ thats gotta be a record! :scared:
wot u using, an 80286? :D
sounds like Daxabs theory is correct.
I've had one movie do this & wondered why.
like you I played about with the bitrates.
I'm not sure about his workaround though. I'll give it a try.

@dvd2svcd
D'oh, I'm still losing the last bit of movies during the mux & cut. Here's what 1.0.6 build 2 pre 2 creates for Bridget Jones' Diary:
833,279,496 01-25-02 11:25p bbMPEG_Muxed_File00.mpg
833,258,580 01-25-02 11:30p bbMPEG_Muxed_File01.mpg
Next I edit the bbMPEG Movie Settings.ini file, changing the line
maxFileSize=795 => maxFileSize=0
And rerun bbMPEG manually, just for the 01.mpg file. New file:
836,089,212 01-25-02 11:46p bbmpeg_muxed_file01.mpg
Request: Make maxFileSize zero for the last CD?

@FrEaK
Okay,
[list=1]
Run DVD2SVCD all the way through as usual. It has to at least complete the mux and cut stage all the way.
Click on Start>DVD2SVCD Software bundle>Support Programs>bbMPEG.
Click on Start Encoding button.
Click on Settings button.
Click on Load and Save Settings tab.
Click on Load Settings button.
Find your bbMPEG Movie Settings.ini file in your output directory and open it.
Click on Input and Output Files tab. Sometimes the audio file is not loaded for some reason. Make sure it is. Click on the Open PS button and find your last .mpg file, in your output directory. When it asks you if you want to overwrite it say yes.
Click on the General Settings tab and find the Max size (MB) box. This should have a number greater than zero. Change it to zero.
Click on the OK button.
Click on the Start button. Now bbMPEG will mux your last .mpg file again, but won't cut off the end. When it finishes, exit it.
Run DVD2SVCD again. Go to the Misc tab. Click on the Crash Recovery button. Find the "dvd2svcd project file.d2s" in your output directory and open it. Pick "SVCD Authoring" under the crash recovery button. Click on Continue.

@Daxab: Do not use Crash Recovery to test Pre 2 please. You have to start from scratch. Then if it still doesn't work please mail me your settings.

@daxab: thx that seems to work...
but almost everytime i click on "load settings" in bbmpeg this closes the program. i *click* on "load settings" --> and all bbmpeg windows are closed, as if the program never ran. i tried it like 50 times, and, fortunatley, it worked after the 50th click.
i have no idea of what causes this, i tried win xps compatibility mode, but that didn't help (i could have known that... it never helped b4 :) )
thx again for this torturial daxab
[edit: is there a command line command to load the ini file?! if anybody knows it could you plz tell me? because i think that this is the only way to get it to work without having to open it like >50 times, thx]

ok, i did it... the bbmpeg problem has something to do with the windows, and with the "always on top" thing, i think. i didn't solve the problem, but found a work around :D ;)
im burning the svcd right now.. do you think that dvd players can play 90min cds? well... i'll find out in about 4 mins
FrEaK
[edit: umm.... this isn't good.... the cd has 90mins and 93 with overburn... and the file had 93:10:38. i thought.. what the hell 10 mins +/- doesn't hurt anybody. and now my cd burner is stuck @ 100% and doesn't respond. well... um... *rebooting*]
chainsaw135
27th January 2002, 02:05
Yeah it depends on the burner if you can burn over 90 minutes and by how much like my Lite-On can overburn a 90 minute cd to 99mins ect.
