i use dvd fab 5 to decrypt and auto gk to convert my dvds to avi files.
i have converted numerous dvds and never encountered this problem before, but i tried to rip family guy blue harvest and the audio was running a split second late!
has anyone else encountered a problem like this? and if so how can it be rectified?

how can it be rectified? Hi!

Load the file into VirtualDub, VirtualDubMod, or NanDub.
Set BOTH "Video"(VirtualDub,
VirtualDubMod and NanDub) and "Audio"
(VirtualDub and NanDub - VirtualDubMOD>"Streams>"Stream
list") to "Direct Stream Copy".

A) If the difference between audio and video is constant
throughout the video:

From the "Audio" dropdown menu, select "Interleaving" (For
VirtualDubMOD, rightclick on the listed audiostream and then
select "Interleaving")

Under "Audio skew correction", set an appropriate number of
milliseconds (positive or negative) in the box labelled "Delay
audio track by"

Save with a new filename

B) If the difference increases as the movie plays:

From under the "Video" dropdown menu, select "Framerate" -
and select "Change so video and audio durations match"

Save with a new filename

Let us know of your success ;>}

hey! thanks! that worked a treat

took a few attempts to get it spot on but the file plays smoothly now. i used the interleaving method to match the video with audio

again many thanks & apologies if this has been covered before

sorry to bother you again but can you trim the duration of avi's?
i download videos of itunes and then use tunebite to remove the drm so i can watch them on my ps3 or psp
sometimes you get videos tho that take an age to fade out and could easily have 3 - 5 seconds chopped off them, is there a way that can be done?

i download videos of itunes(I presume this means you've purchased these videos)

Cutting with VirtualDub (or any of its variants)

1)Load your original (DivX-compressed or otherwise) .AVI into VirtualDub
2) Set BOTH "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copying"
3) Move slider to the starting point of the scene you wish to delete
4) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Go to next keyframe"
5) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection Start"
6) Move slider to the ending point of the scene you wish to delete
7) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Go to next keyframe"
8) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Set Selection End"
9) From the "Edit" dropdown menu, select "Delete frames"
10) Save with a new filename

i had tried that but the audio had become all out of sync so i downloaded the latest version of vitualdub and it appears to be working now!

yes i purchase/download videos from itunes sometimes you get long fade outs and at the end you get copyright, the year and record company - blurry by puddle of mudd springs to mind there must be at least a 5 or 6 seconds after the video ends!

thanks again

for some reason cropping the video length appears to have offset the sound slightly! the video is fractionally ahead of the audio! ah well at least i know how to fix it now ;)
