I just put together a new computer. Dual AthlonMP 1800+. To see how fast this machine really is, I'am encoding Willow. GKnot DivX4 2-pass 2-cd rip at 576x320. The first pass is going at 60fps. WOW! It was definately worth the money.

Computer Specs:
Asus A7M266-D
Dual AthlonMP 1800+ (non yet overclocked)
512MB DDR2100 Registered ram
Aopen 16x DVD

OMG! With my PC it'll encode at 20fps max (no filters)...

Dual Athlon? Wow, that must have cost a lot.

I got the supplies at www.tccomputers.com. I'm sure I could have gotten then cheaper elsewhere, but they are a reliable company, and I like dealing with them.

Asus A7M266-D $235.99
2xAthlonMP 1800+ $579.98
2x 256MB DDR Reg $200.00
Aopen 16x DVDROM $ 79.99
Encoding at 60fps priceless :)

Ponders....

For that money spent on the new computer and the setup...why not just get a DVD-RW drive? DVD-R media's are <$3 these days. Unless you are considering transferring files heavily over the internet, I do not see a reason to go to such extreme.

I didn't get it just to do DivX. I also use it for 3dgames, scientific simulations, video editing, VR, etc. And it wasn't that much more expensive than an good single processor machine.
