Hi!

I'm just recoding my vids to save some disk space.

At the moment I use AutoMKV set at 79% quality with an activated ColorMatrix filter.
It's single pass then of course.

No really visible change for my eyes.
Sound is missing sometimes... but it's muxed in again quickly.

Saved Disk Space is from -5% up to 30%.

I just wonder if that's a good way to do it.

Okay... I could do a 2pass and try different file sizes for every file... but this would take ages.

How would you shrink your videos?

I wouldn't do it at all. Storage is so cheap and time so expensive.

Thats what sane ppl will do.

By the way I backup my vids to dvd-r n thats cheaper than HDD. Also xvid is a good codec for video compression and you willn't get much space reduction with good quality settings in x264, unless you downsize video resolution. If the vids were mpeg2 then x264 convertion was good choice giving you 50% or more compressability with good quality output.

I use Megui. with x264 as video, AAC audio, Mkv (container).
