Is there any possibility to add chapter information to an already existing IFO?
I know this would be possible with a chapters.txt file and remuxing in IFOEdit, but I do not want to remux again the whoe thing, especially when there are streams with NEGATIVE offsets, which IFOEdit, to may knowledge, cannot do.

- demux audio/video/subs/chapters of the pgc with pgcdemux
- edit the chapter file (celltimes.txt) to your liking
- mux with muxman or ifoedit
- replace the original pgc with the changed pgc with vobblanker

Yeah, that was similar to what I did in the past.
However, I would prefere a tool to amend the entries in an IFO file, you know, like "Insert new chapter", "Split cell" etc.

There are 2 separate items: chaptering + supplementary streams
A general question would have been followed in various directions - whithout bringing any result.
turbojet said it right.
It's not sufficient to edit only the ifos. Every chapter has a new cell id /vob id.
You have to remux. period.

Well, I'm not so experienced with the internal architecture of a DVD.
But I assumed a VOB file with its associated IFO could have been regarded as a WAVE + CUE for audio CD. If your CD is one big WAVE file, you edit simply the CUE file to your liking (tracks, indexes, singers, titles etc.).
What you guys essentially say is that modifying the IFO is not enough, something should also be modified in the VOB file itself (probably a header or more somewhere).

Not sure if this helps you, but take a look at ChapterEdit described here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=674140#post674140).

Link no longer valid, maybe you still have this software (there is also an English translation).

Strange that nobody mentioned VOBblanker (http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/guides/VobBlanker/splitting_cells/index.htm). It does apparently exactly what I need, I'll give it a run back at home.
