This forum has been so dead lately!

Thought I would bring a bit of news in case anybody hasn't seen it yet. JVC's first Blu-Ray player in the US is going to support MKV.

I've got more on it here (http://www.zatznotfunny.com/2009-04/mkv-on-jvc-blu-ray-player/).

Not sure how much interest there is in such a device right now, but it's certainly an in intriguing move on JVC's part.

Any speculation as to when mass-producers of DVD players from Asia are going to release cheap models with MKV/H.264 playback?

Probably when they're going to get a Blu-ray license ;) when you're going to use the more expensive and advanced chipset that can handle Blu-ray anyways, it wouldn't make much sense to go without it.
There's a variety of network streamers that handles MKV and can dub as a DVD player (either you equip it with a USB drive.. or you simply play ISOs from a network share).

I've read that there's somewhere a limit of 4GB for the MKV files, which limits seriously such use.

Ya the BD390 and JVC have the same limitation, FAT32 only.
