Hi All,
I was big into the DVD backup scene many years ago, and I have a whole bunch of SVCDs in my CD cases. I'm moving soon, and I don't have enough room to bring all my CDs with me, so I need to find a way to copy my SVCDs to my computer. I have tons of free disk space, so saving physical space by using up my free disk space will be invaluable.

I remember a piece of software from way back that did something special while copying the mpeg-2 contents of SVCDs onto the hard drive. I can't remember what it's called, though. I do remember something about how it's best not to just do a straight file copy from SVCDs.

Does anyone have any recommendations on how best to transfer my SVCDs to my hard drive?

Hi,

Make iso images with imgburn and store them. Don't expect size compression but IMHO this type of stuff (MPEG) is uncompressible.

Good luck

Well I don't want to have to deal with another layer of software (to mount the image) when I play this stuff back. All I really want to do is extract the mpeg data from the discs directly onto my hard drive. I'm under the impression, from vague recollections from years back, that there's something special you're supposed to do when you copy mpeg off SVCDs. The software to do that special thing is what I'm looking for.

Ah, I found it! IsoBuster can copy the files off the disc and filter the M2F2 frames. Plus it has the error protection feature that's very handy for old discs like mine.
