deank
25th April 2009, 19:33
Please discuss all SD/SDHC-card playback issues with your Panasonic TVs and BD players when using multiAVCHD with [x] Panasonic SDHC output option enabled in Author tab.
Use Panasonic SD/SDHC format utility (sdfv2003.exe). (http://panasonic.jp/support/sd_w/download/ftp/sdfv2003.exe)
***
For all tests please use latest FULL download (http://multiavchd.deanbg.com/download.php) of multiAVCHD (version 2.6 build 563+) as of 03-May-2009.
In your reports, please note:
* Video resolution (1280x720, 1440x1080, 1920x1080)
* Video frame-rate (23.976, 24, 25, 29.970, 30, 50, 60)
* Video scan-mode (progressive / interlaced)
* Audio codec (AC3, LPCM...) and channels
* Subtitle presence
* Panasonic BD player model
* Panasonic SDHC TV model
* Region (US/EU - NTSC/PAL)
Example:
Panasonic BD35 (US/NTSC): 1920x1080p 23.976fps, AC3 6ch, no subtitles
Also be advised of the supported combinations according to the current AVCHD standard:

Okay - nice... This seems to be a workaround for SPLIT files. (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1278694#post1278694)
If for any reason you get your Direct Navigator report "Cannot play" you can try RETURN and PLAY again. Since build 549 it should work fine.
Example:
1) You have 8GB card.
2) Load 4.5GB MKV.
3) Set split at 4000MiB in multiAVCHD.
4) Ignore the warning.
5) Create [AVCHD for Panasonic SDHC]
6) Click the remote: PLAY (ignore the error) - RETURN - PLAY.

Okay, this is my third test. It plays in my BD60. Please test and report back.
SD_TEST_DS003

I re-encoded deank's original SAMPLE#12 with the settings I've been using (already posted).
Notes:
MeGUI input DAR said 1.778, I selected NTSC ITU 16:9.
AVS wrong colorspace error in MeGUI, so I said ok to correct it ConvertToYV12()
I selected High Profile L4.0 in MeGUI, although MediaInfo says Main@L4 for my file. deank's original says HIGH@L4.1.
This one works now in my BD30 as well and it was not before, so maybe this sheds some light on the issue.

Tried my first test and got an error. tried an 8+gig .m2ts file that plays fine on my computer. I've attached the error and log images. I then tried an 11meg file and it worked fine. Is there a size limit at this point, or am I getting this error for another reason? Thanks!

davisim, how about posting the mediainfo for the rencoded sample 12 from Deans source, since it is working fine now on my BD30 and was not before. Maybe we can see the differences and start eliminating them one by one to find the culprit.
In the meantime, I am going to try your MeGUI suggestion and reencode my MKVs to see what happens.

SPS picture order 2 should be supported in tsMuxeR 1.9.9. Check what version you're using.
And let's not hurry so much with 4GB splits and stuff...

Okay, so based on Dean's mediainfo post for sample 12, it looks like profile change from High to Main and level went from 4.1 to 4.0. And a later version of x264 encoder was used.
The bitrate was actually set higher on davisim one so that should not be the cause here.
anyone spot anything else?
davisim, your selected the High profile, so why then does it come out as Main?
UPDATE: Oh and re-frames when from 3 to 2 also.
AND what is odd is the sample 10 clip plays on the BD30 yet it is profile high and level 4.1 (sample 10 mediainfo below):

I think I found something very interesting.
Since Deank's sample #10 was beginning of TV serie and the video I was working with was also TV, I still couldn't understand why it wouldn't work.
So I encoded only 10s of my .mkv file using multiAVCHD, copied the AVCHD folder on the SD card into PRIVATE folder : not working (picture menu).
Then I erased the files on SD card, copied AVCHD folder from Deank's sample #10 and replace ONLY the 00000.MTS file by my 00000.MTS file : it's working !!!!!
Then I processed the full length video and still only replace the 00000.MTS file by the new one (which is now over 1 Gb) : I get the video menu and it's playing but only the first 10s.
This means :
1. video file processed with multiAVCHD is just fine
2. folders DCIM and MISC are not needed
3. problems come from the other small files in PRIVATE folder
deank

3. problems come from the other small files in PRIVATE folder
:) These small files took me months to figure out and to make all work (to an extent) for Panasonic users. It's not easy - believe me.
I'll take a look again at this sample, because there is something special about it. I guess - because it was the first 1280x720 and I did change some things - now I can't remember because I never thought it will work. :)

oh sorry, I called them small files but I know nothing about them...
I always thought it was because of the video format that it was not playing
I can send you my mediainfo file but not sure it will help since first 10s are playing
Atreide
25th April 2009, 22:29
I have replaced the other files one by one
INDEX.BDM and MOVIEOBJ.BDM : no problem still working (only first 10s but video menu is there and 10S video playing)
00000.CPI : no problem, still working
then finally
00000.MPL replaced and it's not working anymore, picture menu is brought up not the video one
so problem only comes from the file in PLAYLIST folder

Just to let you guys know....
For the purpose of testing audio/video sources, you only require the "PRIVATE" folder along with its included folders and files: -

You don't need to have the "DCIM" and "MISC" folders ;)

A HEX editor :) like XVI32 (http://www.handshake.de/user/chmaas/delphi/download/xvi32.zip)... Don't use BDedit with AVCHD clip/mpls because it will damage them.

Anyway, I opened your sample 10 .MPL file and that generated from multiAVCHD with my .mkv file but can't make much of it. I guess one has to know what each bit is doing.
Will keep looking and testing tomorrow.

I think the key is you will need to know where the first title starts and then where it stores the duration for the first item for that title in the playlist.
I am guessing the way Dean did this was by probably using valid Panasonic produced video files and by looking at the files via hex editor determined this. And he probably looked at alot of hex and sample files to do this. Reverse engineering

Okay just tried the same test as Atreide and can confirm it works on my MKV that was not working before. Just went to txmuxer tab and for cut end, entered 10 s. Then used the 24 intro sample 10 clips files and just replaced the stream file.
The title also showed up as "24 4.2009" as well.
So it is definitely looking like the playlist file that multiAVCHD is generating now is the culprit and not the video stream.
Dean, is paypal still the best way to donate for the BD player funds?

I wanted to try some SD resolutions (720x480) and slightly longer durations, so here are a couple more samples. These were authored with previous build 540. Both play on my BD60.
SD_TEST_DS004 (http://drop.io/boxxe6g#)
720x480, 4:3, 29.97, 02:20s
SD_TEST_DS005 (http://drop.io/0eivbcm#)
720x480 16:9 29.97, 00:46s - I had to force 16:9 AR in multiAVCHD and I also forced it in MKVmerge.
Source for both are 480x480 MPEG2, de-interlaced, cropped, resized, then added 3:2 pulldown.
I also tried 720x480 23.976, but the picture would not play, only sound. That frame rate isn't supported in the AVCHD spec.

Yes, they both play in my BD60. The longest HD clip I've played was <20s, because I haven't tried any longer. That 2m20s clip is the longest I've tried, but it is lower resolution.

Working for me now, excellent work Dean:
Panasonic BD30 (US/NTSC): 1280x720p 23.976fps, AC3 6ch, no subtitles (source MKV)
One thing I noticed is that the chapter marks are ignored, any chance this could eventually be made to work?
Also if I recall, some of the sample clips had multiple titles. Dean, how difficult is it going to be to get multiple titles? Hopefully my donation I just made will assist you in getting a player :)
Also I recall that your sample 10 had a title "24 4.2009", any reason you're not grabbing the title from the file? Or do we need to edit it to a much smaller title size in the menu editor?
deank
26th April 2009, 11:37
If chapters are present your players REFUSE to play - that's why they are ignored - sorry.
Multiple titles can be harder to implement than it seems. A lot harder.

Question, if we add multiple AVCHD folders in the PRIVATE folder will that allow us to select from a menu and play more than one title from the SDHC?
I guess I can give this a try, but I have a feeling this is out of spec.

No, it won't work. The menu your players show is explicitly set in the MPLS file - nowhere else. You can add multiple avchd_xxx folders - only one named AVCHD will be recognized.

I have just tested a 58m58s 720P HD video. I didn't watch the whole thing in realtime, but I scanned forward and checked sync every 10 minutes. It played fine and kept sync all the way through.
The source was the full video from my earlier test SD_TEST_DS002, but at a lower bitrate (3400 Kbps) to fit my 2GB card. The .MTS file was 1.7GB. Authored with the latest build 543.
I forgot to mention, in one of my earlier tests that I didn't post, I tried encoding at Level 4.1 and that video also played fine.
Also, on the subject of chapters and multiple titles, the camcorder sample SD_TEST4 did have four .MTS video files in the STREAM folder. It showed as one item in the Direct Navigator playlist and it played the clips sequentially. I used the chapter skip forward button and it skipped to the next video clip.

Yes, chapters in AVCHD are not like chapter marks in normal Blu-ray, but more like scenes and each scene should be in separate mts/cpi pair, but the playlist (mpl) joins them in one title (or shows as separate, depending on the way data is put into the playlist 00000.mpl).

- titles names show up in menu, and hey both are shows I watch too :)
- and when title1 ends then title2 automatically plays
So, Dean you may not need my donation for that BD player after all, so enjoy and get something else for yourself because you deserve it!
One other questions:
It sounds like doing chapter marks will actually not be possible since it will require you to cut the file ever 5 mins and them link the cut files all in a single playlist. Unless this can be scripted via tsmuxer
Also, I have a single 4.5 GB clip and I know fat32 does not support this, but by adding chapters for cuts, it would. So here is hoping its possible to do chapter cuts in the future.
Great work Dean, big thanks!

Hi Dean,
So far so good.... The main thing I've noticed however, is that a "PRIVATE" folder is not created.
Anyways, I can confirm the following sources (with 6Ch AC3 audio) work with my BD35 and PZ81B TV: -
AVC Main@L3.0 - 1920x1080 @ 25fps
AVC Main@L3.0 - 1440x1080 @ 25fps
AVC Main@L3.0 - 1440x1080 @ 25fps with 4:3 ARS
AVC Main@L3.0 - 1920x816 @ 25fps
Great work ;)
Ok, so I don't know if I should quote from a different thread - but I figured it was related...
I'm just interested by what SeeMoreDigital said - mainly the last sample he said that works - surely that is a non-compliant size (1920x816)?
SeeMoreDigital - did you have to do anything special for this to work, did it play back in the correct aspect ratio?
Has anyone else tried non-compliant sizes?
Does this mean that non-compliant files could play from SD on a (panasonic) standalone, but not from AVCHD-DVD?

Amazing work!

Well, you didn't need to test the sample... Just add your own files in build 545 and do your own compilation to see if it will work.
The upper limit is 40 titles (as in normal multiAVCHD mode). You can test with NC resolutions, too and see how it will go.
***
About encoding on your own, I'd suggest to keep ref-frames within standards' (BDMV/AVCHD) limits, bitrates < 24MBit/s and have your audio in AC3. Using standard resolutions and framerates is always a good idea. 2-pass encoding with bitrates about 15-20000kbps should give you the best you can get, although I won't go above 5000 for 1280x720 and over 12000 for 1920x1080.

For all you folks using this feature now, I think its time to donate a little to Dean for a job well done.
Dean, I know you mention above that your work on Panasonic support is almost done, but do you think that it will ever be possible to implement the every 5mins chapters feature or might this require you to ask tsmuxer author to add the ability to split files every 5 mins instead of at maximum file size points?
It sounds like even with split files that they play consecutively without pause if they are in the same playlist.

Well, you didn't need to test the sample... Just add your own files in build 545 and do your own compilation to see if it will work.
BD60 results with build 545:
I just made a compilation of all the 5 source files I used for the single test clips I posted earlier. All 5 clips had different resolutions and framerates. It worked great. They all played in sequence, skip back/forward worked and all 5 videos were listed in the playlist. Fantastic work!
The 5 clips were:
1280x720, 24 fps
1280x720, 59.94 fps
1920x1080, 29.97 fps
720x480, 29.97 fps, 4:3
720x480, 29.97 fps, 16:9
The only minor issue I had was that the 720x480 16:9 video, although flagged as 16:9 by MKVMerge and shown as Display Aspect Ratio 16/9 in MediaInfo, was displayed as 4:3 and the multiAVCHD output .MTS file shows an incorrect Display Aspect Ratio of 1.5.
I previously used the force AR to 16:9 option in multiAVCHD with my single title test, but I was afraid that option would affect all titles, including the one that was meant to be 4:3.
As I said, it's just a minor issue having to do with Standard Def and I can easily plan to work around it by keeping my 4:3 video in a different compilation than any 16:9 Standard Definition videos.

I updated, but I was already using build 545, so it didn't change.
I made new compilations with two files:
720x480, 29.97 fps, 4:3
720x480, 29.97 fps, 16:9
Without "Force 16:9" the 4:3 clip plays correctly and the 16:9 clip is displayed incorrectly as 4:3.
With "Force 16:9" the 16:9 clip plays correctly and the 4:3 is incorrectly squeezed to 16:9.
Again, the 16:9 file was manually flagged as 16:9 by MKVMerge and the Display Aspect Ratio is displayed at 16/9 in MediaInfo.
Even with "Force 16:9" the multiAVCHD output .MTS file Display Aspect Ratio is shown as 1.5 in MediaInfo, but it does play properly with "Force 16:9" selected.
This leads me to suspect there are two places where the aspect ratio is set. The .MTS output from multiAVCHD seems to ignore the input MKV aspect ratio setting and just set the aspect ratio from the resolution (meaning that 720x480 .MTS shows as DAR 1.5 regardless of whether the source was flagged as 4/3(1.33) or 16:9).
The "Force 16:9" setting seems to be setting a flag somewhere else in the authored file structure, which is why it can play a DAR 1.5 file properly as 16:9.
espero

This leads me to suspect there are two places where the aspect ratio is set. The .MTS output from multiAVCHD seems to ignore the input MKV aspect ratio setting and just set the aspect ratio from the resolution (meanung that 720x480 .MTS shows as DAR 1.5 regardless of whether the source was flagged as 4/3(1.33) or 16:9).
That's what it did, but I changed it so it wouldn't touch tsmuxer decision about AR (in clpi file). I'll see if I can add MKV AR to be set instead.

SeeMoreDigital said it played on his TV with the samples. And I was asking about TV system - that's why I re-posted his log, because it is 25fps.
Try to put your DCIM and MISC folders too in the root of the card. Also - it is possible that this file uses specific option - not compatible with TV AVCHD playback - I have no way of knowing.

Or perhaps there is a way to set the external Force 16:9 flag for each individual title rather than in the video?
If it's not a straightforward fix, please don't worry too much about it. I don't want this change for a minor issue to cause any other new problems.

Panasonic BD60 testing build 547 for Aspect Ratio flag detection per title and mixed aspect ratio compilation.
First, I tested 3 clips in a mixed compilation. The clips I used were the MKV source files from the earlier tests I posted, plus one new clip. All tests were done in build 547 without "Force 16:9".
SD_TEST_DS004 720x480, 4:3, 29.97, 02:20s
SD_TEST_DS005 720x480, 16:9, 29.97, 00:46s
SD_TEST_DS006 (http://drop.io/fbraq71#) 720x480, 16:9, 29.97, 02:29s
The Aspect Ratio detection and switching is working, from title to title. The 4:3 and both 16:9 clips were played at their proper aspect ratios.
During this test, I noticed something which I hadn't before. It is possibly a Panasonic bug or poor performance.
On build 547 compilations or single titles, the 720x480 16:9 titles have a long delay before playing. From the playlist, when you press Play the screen goes to black, then the counter shows 00:00 for about 9 seconds, then the video starts playing at 00:10s. So the first 9 seconds of the video/audio is cut off.
I re-checked the source .MKV and multiAVCHD .MTS files and there is no missing video/audio. The full clips play from the beginning on a PC.
So, I checked build 547 with 720x480 4:3. Although there is a slight delay before playing, the full video plays from the beginning on the Panasonic.
I thought this might have something to do with the method to detect 16:9, so I went back and checked my old SD_TEST_DS005 which was authored with build 540 and the "Force 16:9" option. Once again, the first 9 seconds of the video is skipped and playback starts from 00:10s. So, this was happening before only with "Force 16:9" but I didn't notice earlier.
As a further test, I re-authored my old test SD_TEST_DS002 1280x720P with a longer duration on build 547:
SD_TEST_DS007 (http://drop.io/pohzklo#) 1280x720, 16/9, 59.94fps, 00:29s
When authored, this clip is shown as 1.778 in the multiAVCHD log. When played in the Panasonic, the screen is black and the display shows 00:00 for 4-5 seconds, then the clip starts playing from 00:01s. In the case of this clip, the first two words of dialog are cut off (and corresponding video).
I went back and played my old shorter clip SD_TEST_DS002 authored with build 540 (no 16:9 detection) and the full video/audio played properly from the beginning with nothing missing from the start.
This may simply be a Panasonic problem, so I don't know if there is a fix for the delay playing back with this Force 16:9 technique.
Since I have only just noticed this, perhaps someone else can download SD_TEST_DS006 (http://drop.io/fbraq71#) and see if it cuts off the first 9 seconds on their player.

6) Test with BD player (SDHC)
Tested on BD60 with build 547.
Source: was the 58m:58s 1280x720, 59.94fps video I used before
In playlist it shows as one title with duration 03:59 (the sum of 4 clips). There is an "X" next to the title and when I try to play, it says "Cannot Play".
I tried a workaround which I used with someone else's sample from the other thread (1280x720_25fps.7z). I hit Return to exit the Direct Navigation playlist and went back to the blue Panasonic default background with no menu. Then I pressed play. The video did play all the way through.
- The beginning was clipped 9 seconds in the same way as described in my post above.
- The playback of 4 consecutive titles seemed to be seamless. Nicely done.
- Skip forward/back did not work. (Operation prohibited.) This may have to do with playing from the default blue screen rather than the Direct Navigation playlist.
Are you using SDHC card or a regular SD/MMC?
I am using a 2GB regular SD card because I do not have any PC with an SDHC slot (only SD). I haven't noticed any previous performance issues though. My earlier tests with 720P and 1080i 14-15Mbps without the 16:9 detection played at full speed without cutting anything off. My current tests with missing 9 seconds are only 3-4Mbps.

Okay - nice... This seems to be a workaround for SPLIT files.
Example:
1) You have 8GB card.
2) Load 4.5GB MKV.
3) Set split at 4000MiB in multiAVCHD.
4) Ignore the warning.
5) Create [AVCHD for Panasonic SDHC]
6) Click the remote: PLAY - RETURN - PLAY.

Can you repeat the test with the latest build (updated just 1 min ago).
I repeated my compilation test on BD60 with build 548.
I used the previously posted test clip source MKV files, but I combined the HD and Standard Def clips.
SD_TEST_DS007 1280x720, 16:9, 59.94fps, 00:29s
SD_TEST_DS006 720x480, 16:9, 29.97, 02:29s
SD_TEST_DS004 720x480, 4:3, 29.97, 02:20s
I still find a similar delay on the 16:9 clips as reported in my previous post. The 1280x720 is now missing the first 3 words instead of just 2 (cutting the first 1s). The second clip 720x480 is still missing 9 seconds. This problem happens regardless of whether the individual video is played from the playlist or consecutively or skipped forward/back to play.
I don't know if your players support over 8GB cards - you need to check your player user's manual.
The manual mentions SDHC from 4GB to 32GB.

Since you have SDHC, would you mind also testing this clip to see if the first 9 seconds are cut off? Press play and watch the counter. Mine stays on 00:00 on a black screen for 9 seconds, then jumps to 00:10 and finally starts playing.
SD_TEST_DS006 (http://drop.io/fbraq71#)
The clip should start with a green movie trailer "Preview has been approved for" screen, but on mine it starts with an overhead shot of surfboards.

@davsim: can you check the split option again with the latest build to see if it will need the play-return-play steps. I think I fixed it, but still..
Also - the 16:9 thing has nothing to do with this 10sec delay. You're using tsmuxer 1.9.9, right? It may be because of the PTS stamps in the video... Also - try with normal MKV file - not a trailer. Thanks. So, it's not just my player, but your delay is shorter (due to SDHC vs. standard SD?).

No.
Also - try with normal MKV file - not a trailer. I've experienced problems with some AVC in MP4/MOV which have audio misaligned purposely at the end of the green warning.
That file was mp4/mov/aac source, but it was fully re-encoded with MeGUI to x264/ac3 because of the wrong aspect ratio and resolution.
I also had the same delay on another earlier test file I posted done with build 540. The source of that video was broadcast MPEG2/MP2 audio also fully re-encoded with MeGUI to x264/ac3.
Both of the above mentioned .MTS files from multiAVCHD play fully from the start when played on a PC in Media Player Classic.
Can you repeat the test with the same content burnt to a DVD disc?
Well, I tested with DVD-R. I authored one disc with multiAVCHD build 549 (TsMuxer 1.9.9) and one just with TsMuxer/GUI 1.9.7 alone. Both DVD-R discs had the same 9 seconds missing at the start of the video when played on my BD60.
I played the multiAVCHD DVD-R in my PC with PowerDVD and it played correctly, starting from the very beginning without cutting anything.
I looked at another of my previously authored TsMuxer AVCHD DVD-R discs, which was an MKV I did not encode myself and that disc does not seem to have anything cut off when played on the BD60.

I don't have any DVD-RW, but I checked my multiAVCHD settings and "Stricter AVCHD folder mode" has been checked throughout my testing. I just made a new DVD-R of a 30 sec 1280x720P video with only the BDMV folder on the disc and it played (cut off 9 secs again).

I don't have older builds. If any of the samples work with your TV, can you create a new and replace the index/movieobj files and test? I have no idea what could cause your TV to stop playing the output. Try with a single title, small file, one mpls/clpi/m2ts.
Build 543 used one title, one mpls/clpi/m2ts and bdmv files are the same as in the latest build when using 1 title/file input. If you have a sample that works with your TV - post a link so I can see what is wrong(?!).

Deank: can you tell me why i'm getting this error for a .m2ts file that is under 4 gig in size?
You're using old version of tsMuxeR. Please go to multiAVCHD thread (1st page) and download THE COMPLETE FULL Setup_multiAVCHD_2.6.exe. Extract it to a clean location - for example D:\ and try again.
And another thing: you're importing HDwriter folder. Answer "NO" when the prompt with question about individual playlists appears. It is for Blu-ray import, not AVCHD, although it should work.
@SMD: You didn't update your tsMuxeR to other version than 1.9.9, right? Can you just download some of the samples you remember to work. There are links in this thread and in multiAVCHD's.

Unfortunately, all the linked samples all seem to be NTSC. Although my BD35 can play NTSC and PAL, my PZ81-B TV only appears to support PAL.
Is there anybody out-there that can generate a PAL sample for me?

Can you format your SDHC card in the camcoder, record ONLY ONE 10sec clip and send me the whole structure with all files?

Unfortunately I can't :( I have a movie which is not backed up. I tried also the movie from another AVC cameras and it worked. I will try to find on the Internet some complete one short clip together with all files. Maybe you have something like this? from another camera? As I said - it works from any AVCHD camera...

Can you take a look at all CPI/MPL files generated with 540 that work on your TV?
Check if CPI have CLEX segment and MPL have PLEX segment at the end (using HEX editor).

I'll wait for SMD to test with his TV. The sample files he sent do not indicate what could be the exact problem and difference between build 540 and 553.
On the other hand you were never successful with any of the samples posted in this thread, so I wouldn't expect it to work for your TV. The samples you sent contain data which I cannot recreate - like menu, navigation graphics, etc.
espero
29th April 2009, 16:07
SMD was successfull only using older version... I am almost sure that his TV and mine uses exactly the same AVCHD module...
It is impossible that in files which I sent you there are some menus, navigation graphics, etc because this camera do not support such features. And also Panasonic TV's do not support such things - these features are not needed for them and if they exist they are being ignored...

I binary compared all files from build 540 and 554 and the only difference is the time-stamp - nothing else. You can try this in 554: delete your .ini file and do another test.
Also - can you check with mkv file, not mts.
There are 4 bytes that are different in the playlist, but those are generated by tsmuxer... What version do you have?

29th April 2009, 18:53
Did you check with multiUPDATE.exe to update your multiAVCHD.exe? now playlists are identical. and cpis and everything... it is the chapter marks that cause the problem - just the same way as with Panasonic BD players... they refuse if there are chapter marks and TV's also have problem with it.

29th April 2009, 18:54

Don't be greedy :)
How do you import VOB in multiAVCHD? I never said it is supported anyway. Do the other file-types work and do they play on your TV?
I thought VOB is equal to MPG?
Unfortunately two mkv's I tried doesnt work :( Do you have any idea why?

I'll wait for SMD to test with his TV. The sample files he sent do not indicate what could be the exact problem and difference between build 540 and 553.Good news....
It looks as though build 554 has cracked the Panasonic TV issue :D
I dropped 6No files into the application, generated an AVCHD mux, transfered the folders onto an SD card and slid the card into my TV.
My TV had no problems displaying all the files on the card and selecting between them was very fast and stable.... Brilliant work Dean

Hi SMD
Actually I`ve been tried on the Viera brazilian version of 42PZ80. It plays AVCHD, but I don`t know but the last sample that Espero sent which worked (build 540) did not worked in this TV. For a while I thought that my TV was the problem but I got some files thru DMC-TS1 (Lumix with AVCHD lite) and the files had played ok. My question is if you are just using videos in PAL to make work at TV
Is it possible to send your samples to me to make tests on my TV?

It is possible that your PAL TV won't accept NTSC videos (like the alaska 29.970fps).
Process again your old mts file (25fps) with build 556 just to make sure there are no other issues.
Try with another PAL clips (25pfs).
* edit * : You can use "CUT END" in Muxer tab to shorten your test times :). Put 120 in the box and it will cut just 2 mins from your video.

A simple trick you can try:
Open (with HEX editor (http://www.handshake.de/user/chmaas/delphi/download/xvi32.zip)) 00000.CPI for one of the files you can't play and change zero-based offset 0x0108 from 5X to 4X.
You can also try the same with the MPL file for this MTS/CPI pair @ offset 0x82.
I noticed that Panasonic's HDwriter (the version I have is 2.5E) will accept nothing but 1080i/1080p (values 0x4X and 0x6X).

reencoded volcano.mkv to 1920x1080i - doesnt work :(

WOW!!! :)
IT WORKS!!!
I changed the vaules as you said, and IT WORKS!!! Can you add such function to CHEAT these TV's? I changed 5X to 4X in both: CPI and MPL.
I think Panasonic Vieras only accepts 1980x1080i and 1980x1080p, ane maybe even not "p" since the cameras are only "i". I havent 1080p material so I cant check this...

I restored the title name (file name) instead of multiAVCHD for TVs Direct Navigator Menu.
FPS is in the same byte you changed... Change is only possible in CPI files. 0x42 to 0x43 for example.
1 - 23.976fps
2 - 24fps
3 - 25fps
4 - 29.970fps
6 - 50fps
7 - 59.94fps
etc... experiment...
I doubt MPEG2 audio will work whatever tweaks you apply :)
Don't expect a TV set to has all the functionality of a Blu-ray player... It is just an AVCHD player - that's it. That's why Panasonic BD players play almost all SDHC content. It is not the same.

in 0x43
4 means 1080i
3 means 25fps
First octet can be:
1 - 480i
3 - 480p
2 - 576i
7 - 576p
5 - 720p
4 - 1080i
6 - 1080p
so you combine FPS and resolution in one byte.
(and the next byte in the CPI file is $20 for 4:3 or $30 for 16:9).

A possible format for playing MPEG2 on your TVs (got it just now from Keysi_2):
...file structure for playing is different. It works with SD_VIDEO folder, PRG001 as a subfolder and MOV001.mod file plays on TV as mpeg2...

So Build 556:
* Panasonic BD players (using SDHC) should not get the 5-10 skip at playback start
I wanted to test this, so I tested the latest build 558 on my BD60 US v1.5 standard SD Card with some of my usual test clips.
Settings:
Panasonic SDHC output
Resolution Force Original (since I was using mixed res. sources)
Stricter AVCHD folder format checked
(Force 16:9 NOT checked)
compilation clips and results:
1. 1280x720P:
- problem with first second cut off seems to be fixed. the last builds I tested (552 and earlier) were missing 2 or 3 words of dialog. this one played from the start
- Proper aspect ratio displayed.
2. 720x480 29.97 16:9:
- first 9 seconds still do not play, playback starts from 10s after a delay
- aspect ratio incorrect (image stretched). This was working in the builds near 552-550.
3. 720x480 29.97 4:3:
- no playback delay, no cut off at start = good and working properly
- aspect ratio is correct
4. 720x480 29.97 16:9 (same results as clip #2):
- first 9 seconds still do not play
- aspect ratio incorrect (image stretched).
Did you remove the per title aspect ratio detection? Or does the "Resolution Force Original" setting change that? Is that setting only for Television SDHC playback?
What setting should I use to get the old build 552 functionality of proper 16:9 aspect ration detection and display in a compilation of mixed titles?
I looked at the output log to check the aspect ratio detection.
On clip #2 it showed:
Detected video: ID#1:V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC:853x480 29.970fps (AR:1.78)
That is not correct. AR 1.78 is correct, but the clip resolution is 720x480, confirmed by MediaInfo. However, this clip was re-encoded by MeGUI and the original clip was re-sized from 848x448.
On clip #4 it showed:
Detected video: ID#1:V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC:853x480 29.970fps (AR:1.78)
Again AR is correct, but resolution is incorrect. Actual resolution is 720x480 in MediaInfo. Original clip was re-encoded and re-sized from 480x480.
Clips #1 and #3 seem to have been detected accurately.
Again, both of the improperly detected clips #2 and #4 were detected correctly and displayed with a proper 16:9 aspect ratio in build 552-550.
deank
30th April 2009, 18:27
Resolution you see for these 720x clips is the "display" resolution, not the real one, which means that they are 4:3 but should be played as 16:9. (this is mkvinfo).
No I didn't remove anything.
For your compilations with BD player use "Original" in the drop-down list for forced resolutions.

Mov001.mod
Mov002.mod
...hex
Mov053.mod
Important are also moi files. These files contains specification of movie files like: date, hour, minute, second, duration, aspect ratio, length. Without changing these values everything works fine - but it looks ugly when we have several files - all with the same date, and all with the same duration (like 0:00:20). I will send you by email pdf with complete meaning of every byte in .moi files.
Unfortunately - there isnt such pdf for .pgi file but in your program you can use - always the same .pgi
Below is the file structure:
SD_VIDEO\
SD_VIDEO\MGR_INFO\
MGR_DATA
PRG_MGR
SD_VIDEO\PRG001\
MOV001.MOI
MOV001.MOD
PRG001.PGI
PRG001.PGI, MGR_DATA, PRG_MGR should be always the same (I will send you all of them)
MOV001.MOD - this is MPEG2 file, almost all works, audio should be in MPEG
MOV001.MOI - can be changed on every file - but this is not a must

@espero: I`d like to know which Panasonic TV you are using to make tests. For my side, nothing have worked at all. In BD, ok, but on the TV no. I followed your steps but nothing happens. I`ve already updated the version from MultiAVCHD, but I don`t know why is not working for me. Are you just using MultiAVCHD, don't you?
As I remember you have Viera from the "8" serie with SDHC slot. I think all of them has the same SD module.
Download this file:
http://rapidshare.com/files/227625652/Sd_video.zip.html
1. unpack Sd_video (and all subfolders and files) to some folder on HDD
2. to the folder Prg001 copy any MPEG2 (SD!!!) (720x576 recommended) file with MPEG sound and rename it to Mov001.mod
3. copy Sd_video and all of its contents to the root folder of SDHC card
you are done - it have to work! if not, try with another MPEG2 file.
If you would like to have more files you should clone Mov001.moi in the same folder and rename it to Mov002.moi and then copy some other video and rename it to Mov002.mod

I just test multiAVCHD with other frame rates than 25fps
file 1280x544p 25fps demuxing by tsMuxeR_1.9.9 to .264 & .aac file next create .mkv by mkvmerge GUI force to 25fps and Display width/height to 1280x 720 and finaly multiAVCHD and it play on TV in full screen size
the same with 1280x720p 23.97fps and it plays too
The only problem is synchro audio to video 4-6 sec delay

Yes it works also for me (I tried this method with my alaska.mkv movie). But this way we will never get synchronization between video and audio since the video is played by 25fps and audio is too short because is played 24fps. Therefore last 10 minutes of my mkv is without sound. We have to search for another solution... this TV has to read NTSC files...

Hi Espero
I`ve tried with your indications but, may the brazilian version of PZ80 series does not support MPEG2. Also, I`ve tried to play AVCHD files using multiAVCHD, but is not working also. Do you have an AVCHD camera? theoretically, by using the multiAVCHD, the file also plays in other device, like AVCHD cameras, correct?
tks for your help

I think you can use eac3to with some of these options to get what you need:
-slowdown convert 25.000 and 24.000 content to 23.976 fps
-speedup convert 23.976 and 24.000 content to 25.000 fps
-23.976/... define source fps to be "23.976", "24.000", "25.000", ..
-changeTo24.000 change source fps to "23.976", "24.000", "25.000", ...

My file (alaska.mkv) is:
Video: MPEG4 Video (H264) 1280x720 29.97fps [Video]
Audio: Dolby AC3 48000Hz stereo [Audio]
eac3to cannot change speed from 29.97 to 25. It says that there is not such option like: -29.97 (define source)
I return to the topic on NTSC videos on Panasonic TVs.
My friend told me that he watch movies from his NTSC Panasonic video camera on Viera TV. I think that there is a swich somwhere - in cpi, mpl or bdm to change mode to NTSC. Please take a look once again in documentation you have, maybe you will find something about this...
MultiAVCHD with some files warns that there are in NTSC and could not work on PS3 (or something like that). So is it possible to change the mode to NTSC?

And for all those interested. Only the UK version of the PZ81 range of TV's is able to support MPEG-4 (and MPEG-2) playback via the SD card slot... This is because it has a built-in high-def compatible satellite decoder ;)

My TV is 50PY800 - only with analogue tuner and it do supports MPEG2 and MPEG4 playback via SD card... but of course 800 series is little more advanced than 80.

If you demuxed the audio, try -speedup (convert 23.976 to 25) and see if it syncs up. The audio duration should be the same whether 29.97 or 23.976.

Yes, for some reason something broke... I'll take a look now.
Use multiUPDATE. It should be fixed now.
Thanks. I tested the updated build 558 (v2) with the same 4 clips as before and the 720x480 both 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratios are displayed correctly.

Thank you, I tried to speedup audio once again - no luck.
When I do not use any ac3 speedup sound ends 14 min before time.
When I used eac3to with option -speedup, sonund ends 12 min before time.
So I looks like sound should be speedup to 29.97 :( is it possible?

Sorry, I was thinking of film source with pulldown, but your 29.97 playback at 25fps isn't the same thing. There should be a way to do it, but I'm not sure what's the best tool for the job.
Thanks. I tested the updated build 558 (v2) with the same 4 clips as before and the 720x480 both 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratios are displayed correctly.
Do you still get this 9-10 seconds skip?
@espero: what about -changeTo25.000. Another option is to reencode the audio with mplayer/ffmpeg/avisynth. It will take just few minutes.
So I looks like sound should be speedup to 29.97 :( is it possible?
I used this:
eac3to.exe 00000.MTS test.ac3 -changeTO25.000 -r8brain -384
and it converts it.. you can try with your source audio and see if it will be in sync.
the m2ts file I used is:
Format : AVC
Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec
Format profile : High@L4.1
Format settings, CABAC : Yes
Format settings, ReFrames : 3 frames
Duration : 43mn 16s
Bit rate : 3 313 Kbps
Nominal bit rate : 3 222 Kbps
Width : 1 280 pixels
Height : 720 pixels
Display aspect ratio : 16/9
Frame rate : 29.970 fps
Resolution : 24 bits
Colorimetry : 4:2:0
Scan type : Progressive

This TV in Brazil supports videos in AVCHD and SD Video. I´m thinking that my TV has some issue, because the user manual have the same information that have posted. So sad:(

Yes, only with 720x480 16:9 videos.
I do not see this problem with higher resolution (720P, 1080i, 1080P) nor with 720x480 4:3.
Well, I guess we'll have to live with it :)

Thank you, it worked but... the lector voice in movie is soooo looooow ;) Sorry for asking again, but maybe there is some switch inside bdm's to have NTSC material?
:D May be you need to apply some pitch control and pitch it up ;)
No, there isn't such 'switch'. There are some samples around with 29.970 NTSC fps. Test them and if one works - send me a link so I can check. If your player plays the NTSC sample then it may very well be possible.

Yes, it's easy to live with, since I know about the problem. Most of the time it will just be credits or logos. I can add a 9 or 10 second black video to the beginning, if I'm re-encoding.
I'm wondering if the delay is caused by a poorly executed function or an oversight in the Panasonic software. I was thinking the upconversion function might be choking on the 16:9 because maybe the Panasonic cameras don't record anything at that resolution/AR. Although HD video decoding would naturally be more processor intensive, it's already at the native display size and I expect Panasonic spent more time developing and testing HD playback.
Anyway, HD is working great and that's what really counts. 480i is just a bonus for the convenience of watching some standard def. videos on my player, since the Divx is disabled on the US BD60. I imagine Panasonic just flipped a bit in the firmware somewhere, in the hopes of selling more BD80 units.

I see. But you told me before that in cpi there is fps switch? When you author such movie, multiAVCHD sets this fps byte or not?
I tested all samples I found in this thread: sd_test_ds001 to sd_test_ds006. I authored every mts with option for Viera TV and force 1080i. Unfortunately all files doesnt work. I dont understand why SD files in NTSC works well without any problems, but AVCHD not...
Do you have maybe some sample from NTSC AVCHD video camera? maybe you found somwhere on the Internet? If we have such sample we could make a lot of tests... and then maybe we would understand why NTSC AVCHD files doesnt work...
About pitch control - do you know if eac3to has such option? or any other program?

Deank,
Would you be able to help me with something that is puzzling me. 1 or 3 builds ago I successfully created an SDHC title that played fine on my DMP-BD35, HDC-SD1 Camcorder, and was recognized by Panasonic HD writer software. Now, with the current build, the output is only playable on my BD35. The SD1 say, "Cannot be used due to incompatible data" and HD Writer gives the message "The images my be damaged. Press 'refresh' button after inserting media on which images were properly recorded. Can anyone explain this to me? I'd like to play this on my camcorder and back it up using HD Writer. Would my log be helpful to you? Thanks!
Update your multiAVCHD to 562 and try again.
There were some serious problems with playlists (if multiple scenes/mts files are present) but now it is all fixed.
I did a lot of tests (with 562) and even 720x480 (with forced 1080i) is recognized by and editable in HDwriter 2.5E:

dean:
I would to say that you are a great programmer, and thank you for all your work! :) BUT :) I would like to say that... one time you was wrong :)
After some experiments I find out that it is possible to play NTSC movies on Viera TV's WITHOUT any modification in video files :)
You said before that only in CPI there is some byte responsible for fps and you asked me to change this byte - there was no luck.
I found that also in mpl there is such byte:
In CPI in offset 0x0108 first part of byte is responsible for resolution and the second part of byte is responsible for fps.
The same is in mpl! at offset 0x82!
I changed this byte and... all of my NTSC movies worked! :)
So I have a big request to you to make in our Viera TV section of multiAVCHD new option "force FPS" :)
