So I have now figured out and encoded to Divx4 and my boss is off the hook on
buying me a DVD player for that laptop!

I have figured out how to do DVD => SVCD so the kids can scratch the heck out of
that copy, and when it breaks I can redo!

Both of the above involve LONG encode times. Does this make sense:

DVD => SVCD, cut SVCD, Then convert SVCD.mpeg => Divx4 ?

If so what would you suggest to take the Mpeg output files from DVD2SVCD and
convert to DivX4 format?

I realize that DVD=>Divx4=>SVCD will lower the quality of SVCD to unexceptable (I think)
but the above way sounds like a reasonable choice and saves a lot of time.

would like your opinion on this, and your preference on App to convert

Thanks

Ken

Let me rephrase:

After I use DVD2SVCD Can I use the BeSweet_Movie_File00.mpg files, that were created for SVCD, and convert them to DivX?

What app to use to convert to DivX?

Am I losing quality?

Will this save me time over starting from scratch with Xmpeg?

Thanks

encode DVD -> SVCD in dvd2svcd and DVD -> divx4 in gknot.. quality of the divx4 rip will be better if you start out with the dvd source again
