Hi!

I presume there has been no need to update it (No new copy protection schemes).

If you find that not to be the case, send an email to the author...

Dvdfab decryptor is no longer a seperate install. It is part of dvdfab and you choose to use the free part of dvd fab

And yes there have been update. The last was only I think a week ago :)

What was the point of posting those screenshots? They are of DVD FAB anyways, not DVD FAB HD Decrypter.

Thanks for the info guys. I didn't know if new copy protection stuff has come out or not. I just noticed it has been a while since an update.

I had to ask considering what happened to DVDshrink and DVDdecrypter.

The new version, 5.2.5.0 (April 17, 2009) does not contain the BD option.
Only the beta releases will have this option.

@cwl7454

You are mistaken.

Although it's not made very clear, if you click on either the "Try Fab Platinum" or "Try Fab Gold" options, you'll get a 15 day trial version - including BluRay ripping capability...

@setarip

Ok you got me, for 15 days I get to try the other 2 paid programs for free and burn all my bluray in that time. Then decide what I'm going to do after that.:thanks:

DVDFab 6 BETA is out.

For now, DVDFab 6 contains five options: "DVD to DVD", "DVD to Mobile", "Blu-ray to Blu-ray", "File to Mobile" and "File Mover".

You can try any option 30 days for free, and the time only count down when you use it first time.

For registered users of DVDFab Platinum/Gold, your key is still valid for version 6, and all features are same as version 5 or more than it.

DVDFab 6.0.0.0 Beta is out (April 27, 2009):

What's New:

New: Updated language files.

For some reason DVDfab's website went back to the 5.2.3.2 after they had the 5.2.5.0 version up for a bit. Anyone have any ideas?

If you click on the "Download" radiobutton for v.5.2.3.2, you'll see that you're actually downloading v.5.2.5.0...

The homepage is currently being worked on. It may be finished in the next day or so.
In the meantime, you can check out the new version here:

Yeah I thought perhaps they'd changed the licensing in relation to the freeware component when I saw that, but it's still set to never expire on the latest version (v6.0.1.0).

Must just be a temporary glitch with the webpage.

HAHA nice. Ya I usually go to the site before I rip a dvd to make sure I'm up to date, but I don't click to double check.

If I understand correctly then the free module is called HD Decrypter and it's capable of ripping Blu-ray. Will this be a full rip or main movie only? I was reading there is a delay supporting new Blu-ray discs, how many month will this delay be?

setarip_old

@stax76

Hi! If I understand correctlyYou've misunderstood:

All components cease to be functional after 21 or 30 days (I forget which), other than simple DVD ripping. Simple DVD ripping (The "DVDHD Decrypter" component at the bottom of the list) is available indefinitely/forever...

@setarip_old

Are you really sure? Look at this quote from fengtao for instance:

We will update DVDFab HD Decrypter in the future as always, from DVD to Blu-ray decryption, please wait for new version.

Or take a look here: http://forum.dvdfab.com/showthread.php?t=1758

setarip_old

@stax76

It's just unclear wording - resulting from the confusion (intentional or otherwise) caused by "Fengtao" using very similar names for multiple products, freeware and payware, as well as combining some under one "umbrella". Test it out for yourself ;>}

Additionally, if you've ever previously used the freeware version, you'll discover that when you download a newer version, "Blu-Ray", etc. will switch to "Expired" the first time you try to use that function...

stax76
10th February 2010, 21:12
Even though I had various older versions installed on my system I changed the system date to May 2010, I can still choose Blu-ray to Blu-ray Complete Disc, the expired message comes only when I use choose a mode other then Complete Disc, also all DVD modes are still available, the free version should only support Complete Discs for DVDs so I'm even more confused now.

@stax76

did fengtao say only dvd functions should work with the free version?

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING DVDFab HD Decrypter (bit.ly/9WS0zX)

Dear All,

Effective with DVDFab v6.1.2.5, the updates for the free version of the product, DVDFab HD Decrypter, will no longer be linked to updates of the registered version. There are many reasons for this, some of which are explained below.

The effect of this new policy is that some of the features, fixes and updates in the release notes will not apply to the HD Decrypter version of the product immediately. Users attempting to use a feature that has not been updated will receive a message to that effect. This includes updates to copy protection schemes for both DVD and Blu-ray. Specifically, for V6.1.2.5, the protection removal for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is not included in DVDFab HD Decrypter. For Blu-ray to Blu-ray, only through MKB10 is supported, while MKB11-16 have been added to the registered version.

This new policy was developed in part due to the increased staff workload in maintaining all the versions and defeating the new protections of both Blu-ray and standard DVDs. We also feel that the registered users who support product development financially should have the most timely access to new features. These and other business factors will make it more feasible for us to continue to offer the free version of DVDFab on an ongoing basis.

DVDFab HD Decrypter will continue to receive immediate bug fixes, and new protection removal will be updated generally within 30-60 days of initial release to registered users. Thank you for understanding this new policy and we hope you will continue to use and enjoy DVDFab products.

Best regards,
Fengtao

NOTE! The decryption, DVD to HDD and Blu-ray to HDD, is FREE, if you want more features then it's a trialware. And it may take 1-2 months until it supports NEW DVD releases.

setarip_old
10th February 2010, 23:52
@MuLTiTaSK

From the same "fengtao" quoteFor Blu-ray to Blu-ray, only through MKB10 is supported, while MKB11-16 have been added to the registered version. This eliminates the possibility of using this software to rip any BluRays that arenewer - perhaps a year or less old...

The free version didn't let me rip The Dark Knight (German). MakeMKV 1.4.11 rips it at the moment. I don't know much about the MakeMKV licensing either but that's fine as long as it works without registering. :)
