Hello,

I try to import SD video in mpeg2 on Scenarist 4.5 (ntsc 720x480@29.97), no problem, but when I encode this same video (with an avs filter + megui) in h264 (profile BD), MUI generator create the ves file but Scenarist doesn't take the video : "Value of VideoFormat is not supported in the BD standard."

I Also tried to upscale my video into 1280x720@60 and Senarist take it...

So my question is does BD Standard support SD video encode in H264 ?

Thank you for your help

Yes, but standard says that it should be interlaced - both for 720x480(@59.94fps) and 720x576(@50fps).

Nero Linux Discuss, Highest possible quality format for SD Video on BD at Nero & InCD forum; This is maybe not directly Nero Linux related, but yet: A 50GB Blu-ray disk has room for over 9 hours of high-definition (HD) video and about 23 hours of standard-definition (SD) video.

As mentioned in the Cinevision manual:

Blu-ray Disc Primary:
The encoded video can be used as a primary video within an HDMV or BD-J title.
Blu-ray Disc Secondary:
The encoded video can be used as a secondary
video within an HDMV or BD-J title. Because CineVision does not know
about the associated Blu-ray Disc Primary stream, to ensure compatibility with the primary video, the secondary video must also meet the following conditions:

– Unless the video codec used for the primary video is MPEG-2, the codec
used for the secondary video must be the same as the codec used for the
primary video.

– Both the primary and secondary video must use the same scan mode
(interlaced or progressive).

– Both the primary and secondary video must use the same frame rate,
with the exceptions listed in the following table:

Frame rate of primary video / Alternative frame rate of secondary video

1280x720p59.94 / 720x480p29.97

1280x720p50 / 720x576p25

– The vertical resolution of the primary stream must be compatible with that of the secondary stream, as shown in the following table:

Vertical resolution of primary stream / Frame rate / Vertical resolution of secondary stream

1080 / 23.976, 24, or 29.97 / 1080 or 480

1080 / 25 / 1080 or 576

720 / 23.976, 24, or 29.97 / 720 or 480

720 / 50 / 720 or 576

– If the primary and secondary video are 720x480 or 720x576, they must both have the same aspect ratio.

FWIW I made a very nice Blu-ray disc (DVD-5) of an SD movie (720x480, 23.976fps) using tsMuxeR. Played on my BR standalone np. Haven't done another one (yet) but made a new category for my movie collection "Blu-ray SD". :)
