Hi there,

Need some help, big time! Using my Blackberry Curve 8320 I recorded a video at work in .3GP Format that is about 550mb in size. For some reason when I go to play it back on whatever player I try such as VLC Media Player, Quicktime, Real Player etc. it won’t play as I get “File Unsupported errors? as well as other error messages. It seemed to record just fine and I didn’t run out of space. My guess is that it is corrupted and somehow the headers and / or footers need adjusting. I was hoping someone could explain how to do this.

Thanks

You deleted your previous post about this and reposted this?

OK, anyway, first off, you should mention exactly what kind of errors you are getting when trying to play back the files. Being generic about it doesn't help one bit.

Regardless, if VLC Media Player is not able to play it, I think the file is corrupted, probably beyond repair (maybe you did run of space when recording it, but you just didn't realize it). Unfortunately, there is nothing which exists which can repair corrupted 3GP files (or maybe there is, but I am unaware of any). Only thing I can think of at the moment is to run it through MP4Box (make a backup first, because your video will be converted in place!). If MP4Box recognizes the file, it can make it 3GPP compliant. Maybe that will make it playable, although even without that, ideally, it should have played just fine if nothing was wrong with the file in the first place.

mp4box C:\path_to_your_video\test.3gp -3gp

Also try parsing the atomic tree of the file using AtomicParsley to see if it complains of any unknown atoms.

atomicparsley C:\path_to_your_video\test.3gp -T

Reaching out to Blackberry Tech Support is also an option.
