I don't know if anyone noticed, but today I found a really really strange information on the wiki page and I'm quite sure it wasn't there before:

While posting this I was wondering if Playstation3 will get another System Update and now I see that there is a version 2.70 (not listed on sony website yet...)
Let's hope it won't break anything with AVCHD :)

This could possibly be an April's Fools Day joke, as those wiki pages can be edited by anyone. :)
We tried and see that only 16:9 and some 4:3 are supported, but who knows

I've tested 1920x800 16:9 on a few players about 6 months ago without success but maybe 1920x800 2.40:1 would work.
I'd be willing to test if someone can provide a sample of 1920x800 2.40:1.

There must be a AR flag for 1:2.40 in bluray but I can't see one. I'm not really sure if this is true (about 1920x800). It makes sense, but yesterday this information wasn't there.
** I just updated to version 2.70 for playstation 3 and everything seems okay for AVCHD.

I just tried 1920x800 with DTS HD-MA, and sup subs (1920x1080) in AVCHD (USB) and still got the green bar, on the PS3 w/2.70. Is this this for real, or does this only work on Blu-ray format (excluding AVCHD)?

I didn't mean that 1920x800 worked :) just that in new fw it is all okay (as before) for AVCHD playback in PS3... nothing about 1920x800.

:D :o
Doh! I thought it would be interesting... oh well. I do my own BD rips anyway. Good to hear AVCHD still works, I view about 90% of my movies this way... with AVCHD Manager!!!
