Hi,

I am attempting to back up the first series of 'Damages' to BD-25. I've ripped the first disc to my hard drive but I'm not sure what audio options to take. In tsMuxer I can see that the episodes have a Dolby HD audio stream with a core 448kbps AC3 stream. In BD Rebuilder, should I check 'Do not re-encode AC3'? Or should I leave everything unchecked (which I believe results in a 448kbps audio stream anyway). Or would either do exactly the same thing?

Also, if I checked 'Use 640kbps for AC3 encoding', how would it do this? Would it downsample the HD audio stream, or just pad out the 448kbps core stream with some extra zero's?

If you are aiming for BD25 I'd suggest checking 'Keep HD audio for BD25 encoding' there should still be plenty of room for the video and subs.

I wouldn't suggest encoding a 448 kbps AC3 to 640 kbps, you lose quality (although maybe not noticable) and you raise the file size. I'd only suggest 'Use 640kbps for AC3 encoding' when encoding from DTS for a BD5/9 even then you probably wouldn't notice a difference between encoding to 640 or 448 kbps AC3

When doing BD5/9 I usually keep DTS audio if there's enough space for video, sometimes there is other times there isn't. The reason I do this is because I notice a difference between DTS and AC3 although some people say they don't on this forum. If in doubt it's better off doing your own test to see if you notice a difference.

Are you playing back your HD audio movie via a HD audio device like an A/V reciever or PS3 that is using an HDMI cable for audio? If so, then keep HD audio. If you aren't playing back the HD audio via an HDMI cable, then keeping HD audio won't help you because it may get down converted based on the equipment and audio cable used.

You should really read the BD Rebuilder guide which will tell you what the optiions are. http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=145024
