I'm using the VobSubber from Megui...in order to extract the subtiltes...I'm getting two files one .idx and one .sub.
For some VOBs the subtitles are being extracted fine. However for some others, although it shows that there are subtitles when i extract them i get an .idx which is 2kb and a .sub that is 0kb...in other words i get no subtitles...
So it looks like for certain VOBs, although i can see subtitles when i play them, they cannot be extracted with VobSubber...
The same happens if i just use the VobSub standalone...
any ideas?

Do you have a sample that you can upload for us? Or the name of the DVD that some of us may have to test on?

I was able to extract the idx/sub subs from them using VSRip, from PGC 2.

Nope, else I would have mentioned it. Sometimes this happens - VSRip would work where VobSub fails, and vice versa.

yeap...i'm able as well...if i use VobSub standalone and chose PGC2...but i cannot do it from inside MeGUI...
however, although i can preview the extracted subs, once i try to mux them on my mp4...they are not playing....i will continue trying.....

well...using VobSub and selecting PGC2, I'm able to extract subtitles.VobSub here doesn't even recognize the presence of these subs when I select the IFO (i.e. I don't get the prompt to select the directory to save the subs in) and hence I don't even get to the point where I can select a different PGC. I directly get taken to the screen where you usually define the color, transparency etc for the subs.

remove all idx/sub files from the current folder (i.e where is located the IFO file) and retry...;)

remove all idx/sub files from the current folder (i.e where is located the IFO file) and retry...;)Well, how about that! It works. That's a very weird way for a software to function, but good to know. Thanks.

yeap..you are right...i have chosen pgc #2 and the subtitles are getting extracted normally. However:
1. In similar situations how someone suppose to know in which pgc are the subtitles...is it something someone can check...or my just trial and error?
2. I have extracted the subs via VobSubber from inside MeGUI..however when i convert to .264, aac and include the subs...when i play the .mp4 although i do get the option to see the subs...when i chose any of the 4...i cannot see anything...
anyone has actually managed to get the subs working?
thanks

if you use DVDDecrypter to rip your DVD, you are able to know which PGC...

play your file around 3"43 and you'll see them (tested with the English ones).

These are the files from the DVD decrypter (http://www.realityfriends.com/forum/images/tomcat/decrypter.JPG).
I have ripped each pgc separate and the one i have put on this post is indeed the pgc#2. However, normally when i rip separate the pgc i don't need to select pgc on the VobSubber...
also, the VOB that i have put on this thread is 19secs...but the subs are starting from 3:40:confused::confused:

IMHO, vobsubber is missing some features for a proper use: as already said, the PGC is not properly checked with the video/ifo as it is in vobsub, and besides, there is no way to choose the angle. The last pb raised by tomcat_ could be raised by a wrong angle.
I've requested such features here (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&atid=798479&aid=2763530&group_id=156112)
