I'm using coreavc as the codec and KMplayer. I used to be able to play 1080p rips fine with 60-80% cpu but now it's maxing out at 100% cpu usage and it starts stuttering all of a sudden. Usually it happens after a few minutes of playback and not right away. I tried media player classic but the problem persists. Here's a screen of cpu usage:

I don't really wanna mess with the coreavc settings since I don't know what they mean but deinterlacing is on aggressive and single field. Deblocking is on standard.

graphics card is an 8200m on windows vista. Using 179.44 nvidia driver with modded inf.

Tried searching google for "100% cpu usage coreavc" but I couldn't find anything useful.

Any suggestions?

For one, make sure that you are actually decoding with Coreavc still, and not some other filter. If you are playing in Media Player Classic, you should be able to right click and select the options menu of your currently running CoreAVC decoder. If you can't, it's not running, and therein lies your problem.

@mr-scarface

I tried KMPlayer last year and initially was a great player, seemed to do everything, play everything, then I started to run into problems with the updates. Ended up uninstalling, which is reminisant of Norton when it comes to uninstalling, leaves lots and lots of traces behind. If I remember it kinda took over ALL the media and had extremely hard time disassociating the media types with it.
Me Personally, Would be extremely hesitant to reinstall.
Sorry that it is not helping you with your problem directly, but will hopefully help you use it with caution.

Yes coreavc is being used for sure, the system tray icon appears each time and I press tab in kmplayer to make it show which codec is playing.

My kmplayer never seems to update itself automatically, but I haven't really had any problems with it.

Look at the core speed and multiplier.

[link deleted per rule 6]

I played the video for a good 15 minutes stutter-free, then as soon as the video started lagging, the core speed dropped to 500 as you see in the pic, and the multiplier to 2.5.

I've had this laptop repaired once by HP when it had a defective fan which was very noisy. You think a fan problem could be causing this too? The laptop works perfectly fine otherwise.

When my i7 gets hot it de-clocks its self a lot. At 100°C (in Real Temp) my i7 drops its multiplier as low as it will go so your problem could very well be an overheating problem, though I don't know if the Turion has this over temp protection.

Better then catching fire. ;)

Edit: it is the same symptoms as my i7 so I strongly suspect over temp protection.

Someone told me I shoudl clean out the fan with a compressed air fan. Does this mean I need to open up the laptop or just spray it with compressed air as it is?

A friend of mine has a core i7 and he never gets temperatures anywhere near that. He told me his stays between 60 and 65°C under full load. I would recommend to check if your cooler is installed correctly or get a better one.

I'm not too comfortable disassembling my laptop. I should probably take it into a repair shop no?
