Im currently having an issue trying to encode a AC3 stream to a AAC.
ATM im trying to encode via megui. The original AC3 stream is around 411mb and after encoding to AAC it down to aroudn 8mb which doesnt sound right. When I try to listen to the AAC file with VLC or quicktime - I get nothing.
Im using megui with the Nero AAC: NDACC-LC-MultiChannel-HQ-256kbps profile.
Is there any other way for me to encode to AAC while keeping the channels the same?

Maybe you have a corrupt ac3, use DelayCut to fix (post the log).
If is ok you can use MeGUI, BeHappy, BeLight, Foobar2000, ... to transcode.

There is a good chance that your AC3 is a multichannel. I had also similar problems: in megui, even if I chose to "keep original channel", the result was a "downmixed" to 2 channel AAC. I solved converting first the AC3 to a 5.1 Wav with foobar2000 and then again with MeGUI to AAC 5.1.

By the way, better encode to 320kbps instead of 256kbps. Compressing an already compressed source is always tricky, so you need as much bitrate as possible, so I would strongly recommend bumping the bitrate a notch.
Just keep in mind that only starting 320kbps AAC LC5.1 is said to be transparent.

Try running it through eac3to. It supports Nero AAC encoding, and usually provides helpful error messages if something's shifty.

Thanks guys for replying.
I guess the main reason why I was having issues was because im recording HD Tv which broadcasts in 5.1 for the program but transmits in 2.0 for commercials. Im video redo to cut out the commercials and leave the program that I want with 5.1 sound.
Using DelayCut as tebasuna51 suggested looks to have fixed the problem and also im now encoding in 320kbps as DJ Bobo also suggested.
:thanks::thanks:
