i like mine. plays any mkv i throw at it so far. any x264 encoded file with level 4.1 or lower (which i do all mine to bluray spec) work perfectly. it plays vc1 after the newest firmware was installed.
subtitles (for me) have played fine idx/sub and srt. i have heard other people having a delay of 0.6 secs with some of their files, but that could be many other issues other than the WD tho...
for the price its very good, and you can get un-official firmwares which you can use wireless usb adapter and telnet your files to it from your network and many other cool things... see here: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1100062

Nice! I was wondering because I was looking for a solution for transporting all of my 4.1 videos down to my room TV.

I'm interested now that I know there's community firmware, but otherwise I really don't have a need for it as I have a computer already connected to my TV.

I'm happy with it, but navigation and music playing is not super practical, some flaws there. It doesn't decode DTS to analog, that's a main complaint from many users (or so I've read). I personnaly reencode them to AC3 and rebuild a new .MKV with it inside. Otherwise, it's doing all it claims to be doing. You can't really go wrong at that price.

True, but it can pass through DTS/AC3 via SPDIF, with external DTS decoder connected, it wouldn't be a problem for me. I am definitely getting this thingy (got approved by the wife :o ). The only thing I wish -but it's not there- is ethernet connection...
Any of you WD HD owners tried to connect it to NAS via USB? Would it work?
PS. Regarding the ethernet wish, certainly I was ignorant to woah!'s post (#2)... sorry :)
