@gcrutcher
Hi!I am now faced with a situation where ver.05 nor ver.08 does not uncrop the moview (1920x800).Based on your stated resolution (of a movie), it would appear that your original source material was eihter a BluRay disc or an HD-DVD disc - both of which would have original resolution of true 1080p or 1080i.
If so, why would you first create an MKV with a cropped resolution of 1920x800 (rather than 1920x1080) - and then try using "UncropMKV" to return to the priginal resolution?

Nothing in the encoding/processing is changed in uncropMKV. If it stopped working - the cause is at your side.

Hi ...
Is there anyway to have the output from uncropmkv be made to fit DVD5, DVD9 etc. by altering the bitrate?
Popbd is fine if you want to span multiple disks but my inclination is to use just 1 DVD9 unless the bitrate is to slow.
thx

This is not mediainfo :)
You'll find mediainfo.exe in tools folder.
Mediainfo.exe dont start. Just a black screen for a half second, then its gone.

Make sure you've read all things I posted in the 1st page of this thread.
1) Load your file
2) Click the "QUEUE" button
3) Then you can click "START"
This allows you to add multiple files (to the queue list) and process them in one.

Think I'm being a bit dim with this: my input video is 1920x800, and uncrop value is 1920x1080 but my video was still at the wrong pixel size after processing. Should it not be 1920x1080?
deank

Try to 'force' the uncrop by selecting "1920x800" in "resize" drop-down. By default it is selected, but there is another 1920x800 after it - use the second.

I sucsesful uncroped one film 1920*1040 to 1920*1080,but when I am playing it in ps3 the film stopped after about 1 hour,I am trying with tow films, but still the same problem,,I used this setting cropT/B=0 .resize=1920*1080 . uncrop to=1920*1080 and the other default,,where is the proble??I can not use crop T/B because 1040 it means 40 divided by 2 =20,and ther is no have 20 in the cropT/B text box,so what shoul I do?
is this setting correct??when I will use trim end?

Such resolutions may not need uncropping... 1920x1040 is really close to 1080p so you won't notice it in PS3.
No, you don't need to set the "Crop T/B" to anything than "0". Crop "CROPS" your original video, and you don't need that. This option is useful if your video was 1920x1100 for example.. then Crop 10 will remove 20 pixels...
How big is the output -uncropped.mkv?

But I must change the resolution to 1920*108 because if I use 1920*1040 and when I use tsmuxer or mkv2vob the results is a big black or green bar at the button on video...just 1920*1080 and 1280*720 results without black and green bar..

If you're in a PAL area (have PAL player) and if the FPS of your video is PAL (25fps) then you should use uncrop to 720x576, otherwise you can
1) resize to 720x480
or
2) crop 32 pixels from top and bottom and get it to 720x480.

No it won't. You seem not to understand what is 'resize' and what is 'uncrop'.
The program will use your original resolution and add borders to extend it to 720p. That's why you don't need to use resize - leave it to default.
Resize is applied to the original resolution, so you don't want to change it!

What you get in the PREVIEW window - that's how the output will look like. If you need to resize - you'll know.
It depends on the speed of your computer and encoding time varies.

The better way is to let the resize option to (no change) (1280x544) and get the black bars (uncropping).
If you use resize to 1280x720 (full screen) your video will be STRETCHED vertically and the aspect ratio will be wrong.

Whenever I click 'Queue' & then 'Start' a Command Prompt opens for a matter of seconds with MKVMerge and immediately closes.
The program then tells me the operation has been completed but obviously, nothing happened at all.
Any idea why MKVMerge keeps closing? I am using the latest version of MultiAVCHD with uncropMKV and also FFDShow, Haali Media Splitter & AVISinth.

HI Dean, and thanks for the uncropmkv-seems to be a great application. Ihave done some mkv, files uncropped with good results, but with the last one :1920.1072 to1920.1080 there seems to be a problem with bad audio and subs sync. Ihave tried it three times , i have tried to deactivate pre and post processing in ffdshow ( as you mentioned before, but i am not sure if i did it correctly), i tried trim end(but the output file was much smaller and of bad quality), but no results at all. Any suggestions? Kostas, Greece

There is an "uncrop"/"re-encode" function in multiAVCHD which is much better than the standalone uncropMKV application.
I strongly suggest that all who are aiming at proper AVCHD/BD playback/compatibility to use multiAVCHD, instead of uncropMKV.

I tried 1pass VHQ on movie. It takes 30 hours on my Amd quad core.
Are there any significant differences between 1pass and 1pass VHQ ?

Good choices are 1 pass and 2 pass (the normal ones). If you do not care about the size - use 1 pass.

A bug was fixed, causing video to be cut improperly at the end (resulting in 1 to 30 seconds missing from the end of the video).
You can download the .exe only from this link (http://multiavchd.deanbg.com/uncropMKV.exe) and replace yours.

Hi deank,
I have some MKV with a 24.000fps framerate (I get this info from mediainfo). With my media player (popcorn C-200) this framerate it's a problem (glitch) at this moment (he's play correctly MKV, without any glitch, with 23.976 framerate).
These mkv have 1 video track, 1 audio track and 1 subtitle: to change framerate can I use uncropmkv?
I think subtitle track must be adjusted manually (I must to extract subtitle track and change framerate to 23.976 and then remuxing).
TIA

Yes, you can use uncropMKV... I guess subtitles will need really small adjustment (it at all) if your video is 2-3 hours long.

edit: I think it will be easier to use eac3to slowdown and tsMuxeR to remux with the new fps instead of reencoding the whole movie.

Hi. Here is a question.
I have an mkv file with a video resolution of 1280x534. See, the aspect ratio of the video is 21:9. So, instead of using the standard 1280x720 resolution and put black bars on top and bottom, the author of the video decided to use this resolution.
- Can uncropMKV add the black bars on top and bottom and make it a 1280x720 vid? (not strech it)
- Can uncropMKV add the black bars without re-encoding the rest of the picture?
Thanks,

You always lose quality when re-encode. Just give it a try with 1 pass turbo and 2 pass fast and try to find the differences yourself.

Dean,
First of all, many thanks for all the excellent tools you have out there. I use a lot UncropMKV (from the MultiAVCHD install version 1.55 )on the MKV files in order to make them AVCHD compliant (I use MKV2VOB afterwards to make the AVCHD's.
This process works really well and I have used it already dozens of times, unfortunately with the latest file I have MacGruber (2010) 1080P.X264.NL.SUBBED.Bradje.mkv the audio is not in sync anymore with the video.
Here is the input when loading the file into uncropmkv :
[17:56:22] Detected audio: ID#2:A_AC3 (48000Hz/6ch) Language: eng
[17:56:22] Detected audio: ID#3:A_DTS (48000Hz/6ch) Language: eng

[17:56:22] Detected video: ID#1:V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC:1920x800 23.976fps (AR:2.4)

Read the forum rules, especially rule #6. The name of the file implies a downloaded or "shared" file, and the non-compliant resolution confirms that this is not a file you ripped from a BD.

Hi everyone,
My goal is to burn a couple of mkv files to blu-ray discs. I don't want to change any aspect ratio, I only want to add or subtract to the black bars to make the file's resolution acceptable for the bd format. I already know how to use tsmuxer and imgburn to make a bd disc out of an mkv that is already the correct resolution.
So, if I have an mkv that is 1920 x 816 and I want to make it 1920 x 1080, do I set "Resize" to 1920 x 816 No Resize, or should I choose the second 1920 x 816 that doesn't say No Resize?
Also, "Uncrop to" only has 1920 x 1080 as a choice, I assume that's right?
Do I leave "Crop T/B" at zero?
What is the highest quality setting, 2 pass VHQ? I want the highest quality, and I'm not concerned about file size or the time it will take.
Thank you in advance for your help! And thanks to Dean for a wikkid good tool!

You should probably start with the video from the BD itself, not a cropped or resized source.

I posted this to Deans own forum but I think this may be more readers here....
I set an mkv video file to be "uncropped" with uncropmkv version 1.55.
It successfully produced the *.264 file but mkvmerge failed to mux the file resulting in the *-uncropped.mkv file having a byte count of 6 bytes, even though uncropmkv said it was successful.
I did some investigation and found the version of mkvmerge used in the uncropmkv 1.55 package as being 2.5.3.0. In a recently installed mkvtoolnix package I found mkvmerge version 4.4.4.0.
Using the more recent version of mkvmerge with uncropmkv 1.55 I found the the file muxed successfully.
Is there any reason why the older version of mkvmerge is included in the uncropmkv 1.55 package or can the old version be substituted with the new version without problems?
thanks

Hi! Is there any reason why the older version of mkvmerge is included in the uncropmkv 1.55 packageProbably because Dean incorporated his "uncrop" tool into multiAVCHD quite some time ago - so that there was no reason/need to update the standalone version...

Hi. First time posting here. I've downloaded and used AVCHD and uncropMKV and love them both. Great tools. HOWEVER, lately I'm having a problem with uncropMKV. When I start to extract an MKV to 1920x1080 the process only get to about 3%, then opens the project for writing. So I keep ending up with a 5 min portion of a full film. I've uninstalled and re-installed, both full version and the one with AVCHD but with no luck. It just doesn't work anymore with any files I try. Any suggestions as to what may be causing this?

well as I read through this it seems that a re-encoding of the mkv is done to add the borders back from a 1920 x 800 to 1920 x 1080.Can't the clip ini just be changed in a hex editor and not re-encode the encoded mkv bluray movie? Seems I read that some where. When you have a 1920 x 800 BD burned on a disk the Bluray player stretches out the video.Makes their heads look long. The more times you encode a movie the more compression artifact you will see in dark scenes and such, right?
What kind of bullshit is it when I go to the first page of this post I get a re-direct to multiavchd site with a user name and password pop up.Then says access denied? How does this happen here at doom9 forum deang try to redirect me?

I stumbled upon this nice utility while trying to author some collections - could someone advice on command line usage ? The GUI appears not to have an option for a separate destination dir? Reading from and writing to same dir - not desirable.
