View Full Version : BBC iPlayer Adobe rights management (FMRMS) DRM problem

I tend to watch my stuff on the laptop on the train.
It's been easy up until the BBC started using Adobe rights management (FMRMS) encryption on their mp4 tv on demand downloads. No more fairuse4wm!

Is there any way of making the files, um, more "offline" friendly?

If there's an issue with this on the forums, please pm me too.
Thanks!

You can still download the programmes as WMV files by clicking on "More downloads" and choosing "Windows Media Player" and apply FairuseWM to the downloaded files as usual.
I'm also hoping for a solution to the encrypted mp4 files for the better quality.

The Adobe DRM'd downloads contain what appear to be identical video encodes to those that you can stream from the iPlayer website. The streams have no DRM.

I think I would be breaching this forum's rules to link to a suitable piece of media catcher software at this point, so I won't.

Cheers,
David.

P.S. The top mp4 bitrate is higher than the WMV downloads, but I'm not convinced the quality is altogether better - you get fewer artefacts, but fewer details too! The 3.2MBps HD is nice though - not broadcast HD quality, but better than Vimeo.
