View Full Version : Help adding black bars to a 4:3 MKV for BluRay

Hi All,

I have a 4:3 MKV (1440x1072) that I am trying to put onto DVD as a BluRay for playback on a PS3. It all goes on very well, but when I play the disc in the PS3 the image is stretched rather than having "pillarbox" black bars on the left and right. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to convert it correctly so that it plays in the correct aspect ratio.

Many thanks

Nick

AVCHD/BD standards do not support 4:3 for 1440x1080 resolutions. PS3 will never play it in 4:3 but will always do anamorphic 16:9.

Hi!

Based on the resolution of the MKV you've created, I presume your original source material was either a BluRay disc or HD-DVD disc (Likely HD-DVD, based on most of your previous posts). As such, the original source material is 1920x1080 - So why would you have created your MKV at 1440x1072, if you want to play it on a PS3?

Hi All,

The MKV was given to me from someone I work with, and is an old film which was shot 4:3. it did come from bluray but has had the bars on the left and right cropped off. I want to put this back onto bluray and add the bars back so tha it is in the correct ratio.
