After months of trying off and on, I still have trouble doing this conversion. And since many more divx-encoded movies are posted to the net than svcd, it's important to me to figure out. Anyways I just finished an 11 hour encode using cq in tmpgenc. Using Mpeg tools I then cut the mpg in 2. But when I burn the image to cd, it won't play back in my dvd player even though power dvd plays it back fine on the pc.

I had earlier used a guide for frame-serving from virtualdub to cce which resulted in an image that played on the dvd player but it was too squashed looking on the screen, probably because the guide called for resizing to 480 x 480 for any movie. I suppose I could try this method again without resizing but tmpgenc was faster and produced the better result, at least as power dvd showed it.

I have a pioneer player which normally plays anything I throw at it so I'm stumped...and extremely frustrated :(

Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks

there's a guide on divx-> svcd on my page.

in fact there's guides from almost any format to another format as long as they have any serious value for ripping purposes.. and more are coming in the future (though don't expect anything before end of february.. I have finals soon)

Also you can try the new DVD2SVCD, it now has an option to import AVIs. Works great.

Hmm, well I just installed latest dvd2svcd and avi-svcd conversion is mentioned in the release notes but how do you do it?

I think my problem with this encode might be the frame rate of this divx which is 24. Could this cause the standalone player to not play the svcd?

d2s only supports 23.976, 25.00 and 29.97fps avis atm
