I noticed that when playing .M2TS files (from BluRay discs) containing VC-1 video with the SMPlayer/MPlayer combination, the player will sometimes automatically use the WMVVC-1DMO codec and other times an FFMPEG VC-1 codec.

Invariably, trying to use other than the automatically selected codec results in a crash.

This seems to indicate that there are there are at least two different types of VC-1 encoding.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

VC-1 is a set standard and I don't believe there's any major core difference between one or another encoder.

Are some of the M2TS's inlerlaced and some progressive?

None of the related software tools I use regarding BluRays indicates whether progressive or interlaced.

All of the packaging that bothers to be that specific indicates "1080p" - I've yet to see one that indicates "1080i".

I guess I can use MediaInfo to check out what you've mentioned.

Thank you ;>}
