@OLP
Did you install the full Beta11 package and run the Beta 13 from that directory? There are some directory changes I believe that could cause problems.
Here's the link to Beta 11... http://www.64k.it/andres/data/hdconverttox/HDConvertToX-beta11.rar
thanks but i am not THAT stupid :D

Yeah, I've seen you post enough times where I figured you'd know what to do, but it never hurts to check the obvious sometimes. At least I didn't ask if your computer was plugged in. :-)

@ buzzqw
i did some more testing after reading the last 10 pages of this thread....
seems that for me analyzing any of my *.mkv has no result in the audio&subs tab
but the eac3toinfo.log in the analysis-folder is showing that there is audio and sub.
with the last 2.5.xx all is working fine!
maybe its again a problem of localized versions like in our former discussed problem (see around post #3245, page 163)
any ideas?

great!
seems again a problem with mkvtoolnix.
i deleted the mkvtoolnix-folder from your app-folder and the result is the same...
is there a way to check if HDC is searching/finding and using mkvinfo in the right path?
OLP
16th September 2010, 11:06
GOTCHA!
i got it, but dont ask me why the following changes did it.....
i moved the mkvtoolnixfolder from app-folder to another location on my HDD.
then i make a new mkvtoolnix-folder in the app-folder and copy mkvinfo.exe and mkvextract.exe to this folder and did a test.
Got an errormessage that mkvinfo cannot be started cause missing *.dll
this was a good result. now i know that hdc try to start mkvinfo.
step by step i copyed the missing dlls and the data-folder.
I got it to work after i copyed 8 from 9 dlls.
the only dll i didnt copy was the "wxmsw28u_html_gcc_custom.dll".
i also didnt copy the doc, examples and locale folders.
now it worked......
OLP
16th September 2010, 11:16
now the mkvtoolnix folder looks like this:
http://www.mediafire.com/i/?yvjgusfzbxrbnif
buzzqw
16th September 2010, 11:17
HDC launch mkvinfo from \application\mkvtoolnix
i suppose you have wrong path (for mkvtoolnix) in your registry.. and so the mkvinfo isn't finding needed dll
and.. wxmsw28u_html_gcc_custom.dll is already in my mkvtoolnix foder...
i could force to add as system path the mkvtoolnix on hdc folder...
but i can suggest a clean deinstall of mkvtoolnix, cccleaner, then a full reinstall of mkvtoolnix installer
BHH
OLP
16th September 2010, 11:21
i havent mkvtoolnix installed on my system.
that causes problems that i described in the May-Problem.
i am using the non-installer-version if i need it
i think the problem is the localisation of mkvtoolnix together with that fu*** dll that i didnt copy
no clue :)
buzzqw
16th September 2010, 11:27
glad you resolved

Still no luck here. The audio and sub tracks do not appear in the Audio and Subs selection tab.
Here the eac3toinfo.log which confirms that the streams exist:
MKV, 1 video track, 1 audio track, 2 subtitle tracks, 2:55:02, 25p
1: MPEG2, 576p25 (16:9)
2: AC3, German, 5.1 channels, 384kbps, 48kHz, dialnorm: -27dB
"3/2+1"
3: Subtitle (VobSub), German
4: Subtitle (VobSub), German
Bitstream parsing for tracks 3 and 4 failed. <WARNING>
Demuxing these tracks may still produce correct results - or not. <WARNING>
Added:
Ooops! It works when I remove the 'locale' folder
OLP
16th September 2010, 20:31
as i said...the fu***ing localization from mkvtoolnix is the problem.
so pls, buzzqw delete the not needed files and folders from your fullpackage so that it works for all without such riddles :)

Hmmm, still a minor problem here:
The vobsubs are extracted as .sub and .idx but not converted into .sup (for m2ts container), and the .meta does not include the muxing of the subtitles. I have to do this manually.

yea :) thanks SMD!
the leap is due to a total different procedure for audio and subs extraction
now it use mkvextract no more eac3to
more to come for audio handling.. i am thinking about leaving only one 2 options, directshow decoding and eac3to decoding
hdc is now "near" stable.. maybe i will take another route

HI Buzzqw
I have been throwing files at your RC1 release and it all seems to be solid I cannot get any errors. Its detecting and muxing all audio chapters and subs correctly.
I use MakeMkv lately to rip my DVD's and RC1 is solid on mkv input as far as my testing goes. :)

I am getting some strange behavior from subtitles. I queue it all up, and then run through it. When it goes to mux it all together tells me that the subtilte file (idx maybe ) is not there, so I edit my queue to remove all lines except the java line for subs and the mux line. Run that, and it creates the idx file and then muxes it properly. So it is not that I edit any of the commands I simply re-run them and it works. What would you need me to post to show you what is going on? Seams like a very inconsistent error. Right, I am running the RC1

We should thank Buzzqw for his hard work, but remember release candidate means exactly that. There are still some bugs e.g PAL DVD when analysed still sometimes gets read as NTSC rate and cropping can be problematic as can subtitles, but program is getting more stable each day and development is done freely. So we must be grateful as well guys!
Such a pity your very much lamented, magnificent and stable program AutoMKV could not have been developed like this HDConvert one. A testament to your hard work sir!
Nota Bene. Will your great sister progam Automen go to release candidate like this one as it is super for encoding(Xvid quality using Denoise filter gives excellent quality) but has some trouble encoding DVD using avi in XP still, especially with Mencoder option? Earlier builds seemed far more stable and never had this problem. Thanks

Marshy I have had the same problems. The problem could be Mencoder build(s) or how GUI engages with programs via commands? That said other options e.g Handbrake can freeze too during encoding. Automen might not work correctly in some builds of XP etc.
The Forum for Automen is not very active as most users are here? so cannot pass on other users' comments regarding this bug. I personally feel for what it does(simplistically Automen is a much better program than HDConvertX and deserves much wider usage to get the bugs eradicated.:)

Source is .mkv (derived from original multi-segment .m2ts). Target is .m2ts
Sups are extracted correctly, but missing in .meta. I had to add them manually in the .meta.

Hi, buzz!
I'm using HDC 3.0 RC1, for DVD backup testing and i would ask you if is it possible to add under Hardware Compatibiliy (or where you think is better), some restriction for DXVA compatibility on both SD and HD material. I ask this because if you try to decode a SD file encoded with h264 that doesn't follow properly the limitation for DXVA, it will be displayed with a lot of artifacts; instead, if you open it without DXVA acceleration the video is perfect :(
On MEGUI Custom x264 profiles (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=139765) thread, there are some exaples of DXVA compliant profiles for x264.
Thank you and keep up the good work!

That's what the "Network Media Tank Compatibility" check box does for h264 encodes. The "Strict" check box limits B-frames further for compatibility with some more picky SAP chip sets. I use it for my encodes (not the Strict setting, just regular NMT checkbox only), and Media Player Classic plays the files with DXVA acceleration.

Hello Buzz,
I noticed that disable header removal doesn't fix a subtitle issue with my media player.
The mkvmerge part of the .bat which is created is as follows :
"C:\Program Files\HDConvertToX 3 RC1_AMI\applications\MKVtoolnix\mkvmerge.exe" -o "E:\Chandni_noFilter.MKV" --default-duration 0:29.970fps --compression 0:none "C:\Program Files\HDConvertToX 3 RC1_AMI\job8\hdconverttox_vts_05_1.h264" --compression 0:none --language -1:hin "C:\Program Files\HDConvertToX 3 RC1_AMI\job8\hdencodertox-pid3.mp4" --default-track -1:no "C:\Program Files\HDConvertToX 3 RC1_AMI\job8\hdc_subs.idx" --chapters "C:\Program Files\HDConvertToX 3 RC1_AMI\job8\chapters.txt"
When I change it to the following I have no more problems :
"C:\Program Files\HDConvertToX 3 RC1_AMI\applications\MKVtoolnix\mkvmerge.exe" -o "E:\Chandni_noFilter.MKV" --default-duration 0:29.970fps --compression 0:none "C:\Program Files\HDConvertToX 3 RC1_AMI\job8\hdconverttox_vts_05_1.h264" --compression 0:none --language -1:hin "C:\Program Files\HDConvertToX 3 RC1_AMI\job8\hdencodertox-pid3.mp4" --default-track -1:no --compression 0:none "C:\Program Files\HDConvertToX 3 RC1_AMI\job8\hdc_subs.idx" --chapters "C:\Program Files\HDConvertToX 3 RC1_AMI\job8\chapters.txt"
I added an extra --compression 0:none

Using the new version 3 RC
I like it and don't like it
Tried to convert a bluray from japan - a single stream file video image
Outputted to xvid in avi
Wanted 8 GB output file - and used the extra options for it to split the output file into 1.8 GB sized pieces
Instead, it created a single and quite horrible quality 769 MB file named as for example "video(1).avi" but never created any other parts
I'm confused
Also - I opened another bluray (50 I think) and converted it with horrible video-audio sync issue .... I checked again and the source video was being listed in HDConvetToX as something 333333333.33 frames/sec ........ a massive number
Ideas with this limited info?

Sorry, subtitles are still missing in the meta with -rc2.
Secondly, audio is getting suddenly out of sync from about the second half of the movie onwards (by a fix delay of about 0.5 seconds). Is all this happening because you changed the extraction from eac3to to mkvextract?
With HDC v2.5 everything is fine: Subtitles recognized and audio is in perfect sync.

There is a bug reversion using encode xvid with avi. If you move it to "slower" setting and save settings, close program and then reopen the setting is always showing "balanced" instead of slower.

Could you make it possible to do a simple check when you add a job to the queue: if job1(the folder) already exists go immediately to job 2
i need to mux myself, hdc cant do it so would be easier if each job has a new folder. every time i start hdc it put the stuff in job 1 instead of creating a new folder.
its not so good explained by me but i hope you know what i mean?
i understood, but isn't easier to move the job1 to another folder
Yeah but since i need to do muxing myself sometimes i forgot to rename job1 or move it...Cant you make an auto rename like a downloadmanager does?
if exist
job1
then rename
job1_1
job1_2
etc
?
i think i am not the only person with this problem and as far i know something from programming i think that are a few extra rules of code.
So if you want to fix it thanks in advance!

Great work Buzz. version 3 already
I have a couple of Mpeg videos cleared by Videoredo
The mpegs play fine. The problem is HDC creates files bigger than mpegs in size.
Conversion: Mpeg to x264+aac (crf 20 1 pass). Also HDC says these files does not have audio(Audio tacks none).
I wanted to upload a sample but dont know where. I uploaded it to rapidshare but dont know if I did it right.

Hi, just giving this application a tryout
My PC:
Pc running Q6600 CPU
CUDA capable Graphics card
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
4GB Ram
1st of all it asked me if I wanted to `switch to 64bit` upon start-up of app, now it doesnt do that now,.... abit weird.
Also, I tried just a quick sample conversion, it demuxes then stops. Does NOT encode :(
EDIT: just tried changing from Xvid in .MKV to Xvid in .Avi in settings and it tries open the AVIGUI MUX app. (it asks for `Run as Admin`), i hit ok,.... it then errors sying AVIMUX need to close as "hdencodertox-pid2.aac" is already in use ??

errm, I have just tried ACHDCoder (AVCHDCoder works fine but not flexible enough for me :)) and had to clean install that, but i can remove it first just to be thorough.... i`ll do it exactly to this guide.

Ok, I removed everything except my Core avc and Divx PRO v6.85,
The guide and codes pack were meant for 32bit install, but works anyways.
Great app, I have a couple questions relating to features,
1: would it be possible to link the Divx/x264 settings in the GUI with the installed Divx package ( if present on machine ) then have access to the full Divx 6.8 encoder options.
2: it would be great if importing from Blue-ray source was possible, inc. Subs and multiple audio tracks. ;)
Great app still.
edit: also not all output formats display the `overall progess`, so ATM i dont have a clue how long til my encode finnishes, LOL.

@DJ-1
you can access full divx/x264 settings by editing the profile.txt
that's is a great way for personalizing profiles
HDC isn't a ripper application or fully blow extraction program.
and.. not all encoder report the eta...

HDC v2: works ok

HDC v3 producing missing subtitles:

*** 6: S_HDMV/PGS DEU

The numbering of the subtitles is different for HDC v3, and they are finally missing in the .meta.

well, i am thinking about starting a new project.
but this one will be focused on multi-platform since i want totally migrate to Linux (i am studying for Linux certification too)
most probably will be based on ffmpeg/mencoder/mplayer/x264
with very little support for avisynth
like an automen/multix264 but "on steroids" :p
i have few free time and most of this is dedicate to my family.
happy encoding!

Ok, starting to get the hang of this app now,... 1 think I have noticed is that when I try and use my other encpoding app, TMPGEnc Express 4 ( because i use the built in ' all-in 1 pass' edit/ convertion ) when I select xvid as output I get general Windows 'access denied errors'.... basic something else has got control of the codec and won't let the other app use it.
I instaled the mega codec pack from this thread, page 94 or 95 and when I un-install that codec pack, and just have plain xvid alone installed TMPGEnc no longer errors, so its clearly something to do with thatched pack.
Is there anything other than a multi codec pack for hdconvertox to work, can I get the codecs individually as this may be a 'cleaner' way of doing so ?
What are all the individual codecs needed here ?
Cheers.

Hi,
Thinking that 1080p has plenty of cropping potential when resizing to 720p, I've thought about not only cropping the black borders off the top and bottom of a 2:35:1 movie, but cropping the sides as well so that the picture fills a 16:9 TV.
My question is - will cropping in this way result in a worse quality encode when resizing to 720p than just cropping the black bars off?
Adub
17th October 2010, 07:09
It depends on how you define quality. Having the full picture in the final version may be considered higher quality by some viewers.
The fact is, when you resize at all (up or down) you will be losing quality. The reason for this is that the algorithms used in resize calculations are forced to throw away pixel information when changing sizes.
iSeries
17th October 2010, 07:46
Thanks Adub - in this case I'd define quality relative to just cropping off the black bars and resizing to 720p. I tried it last night - for this particular movie to fill a 16:9 TV I needed to crop 142 pixels from the top, 142 from the bottom, 252 from the left and 252 from the right (this gave the smallest A/R error for 1280 x 720). This left 1416 x 796 to resize to 720p. I compared the encode to one I'd made with just the black borders cropped out (all other encoding settings the same) and the full screen version seems 'crunchier' or 'grittier'. Is it my imagination or could it be the result of some kind of magnification effect? I guess cropping to fill the screen I am basically zooming in and any inherent defects in the source or less than optimal encoding settings are going to be more obvious?
Sharc
17th October 2010, 09:14
Are you encoding at same file size or at same crf? You can compare the 'quality' on the basis of the same file size only.
Personally I would never crop 2x252 into the active picture and throw so much away. If you want to fill the 16:9 TV screen for viewing you can probably do this using the zoom function of your player or of your TV set.
iSeries
17th October 2010, 09:34
Thanks Sharc - I'm comparing at the same CRF. I figured the file size is bound to bigger with the full screen version as it would need a higher bitrate so didn't think comparing the two at the same file size would be valid.
And no, I don't normally crop like this - it's for my daughter to watch in her room. She only has a 26" screen (only lol, when I was her age that would have been like going to the cinema) and she's complaining about the black bars and that its like trying to watch a film through someone's letterbox!
Sharc
17th October 2010, 11:17
As you encode at same crf I would assume that the perceptual differences are mainly due to the 'zooming' effect, as you mention. To how much the observed artefacts are prevalent in the source could for example be examined with a reference encode at a 'transparent' crf of say 14.

Alright, I've got a problem here. I have what seems to be a complete encoding, but I've realized that the subtitles got botched in ripping or something. They are missing in the final chapter of the movie. I've used VSrip to rerip the subs from the IFO files (and the new .sub file is larger than the one I demuxxed out of my bad movie), but I don't seem to be able to make a new file with them. I try to use MKVMergeGUI to combine the video and audio pieces of my old encoding (because they're fine) with the newly ripped subs (since they are complete) and MKVMerge keeps claiming the input files are unknown types. These are the exact same streams that were demuxxed from the old MKV encoding. All I want to do is swap the bad .sub for my new one and remux. Why can't I do this?
This was a tricky encoding to set up because it was hard letterboxed and needed some filtering and I really don't want to have to reencode all the video and audio again just to get a new MKV with all the subtitles.
buzzqw
20th October 2010, 11:04
hi nx6
you must add to mkvmerge (mmg.exe) only the IDX file
not the .sub
BHH

20th October 2010, 11:13
Okay. But what about the vid.h264 and audio.aac? Mmg is not recognizing them.
Edit: Oh! Wait. Now I can just take my OLD encoding and use that as the input for the new muxxing. I just have to uncheck the bad subs and add the .idx like you say to get the good subs, right?
Edit2: Nope, that didn't work. It seems to have come out the same. Hmmm... Guess I'll go to bed now and sleep on it. But leave the computer to try a re-encode.

and aac audio is recognized too!
try using mmg 4.3.0..

Or you could just load your original file (i assume video & audio & subs) into makemkv, then make mkv.
HDC will handle file perfectly if you do this.

Thanks for your reply.
Media Player Classic Homecinema 1.4.2499.0 can play K:\HDC\job1\hdconverttox_vts_01_1.avs from the beginning to the end (all 2 hours). It has no audio which I think is normal.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled all required applications: Avisynth_258, ffdshow_rev3611_20101006_clsid, MatroskaSplitter 1.10.262.12, Xvid-1.2.2-07062009 and HDConvertToX_3.0.691.4632
I set ffdshow to use libmpeg2 as decoder for MPEG2 and DVD, and wmv9 as decoder for VC-1.
I selected Haali Media Splitter to Enable AVI support and Enable MPEG-PS support during installation.
I set AVIMux_GUI to run in compatibility mode for WinXP SP2.
Using Win7DSFilterTweaker_3_7, I selected ffdshow. I chose ffdshow (DXVA) when that option is available.
I have also tried to run HDC as an administrator.
Thanks.

Been fighting this and can not figure it out:
Upp'ed to Win 7, and installed V3.0.691.4632 (from first post) now then, when using a video file recorded from an Hauppauge HD-PVR that is 1080i and Dolby Digital, I get a great pic but no audio unless I convert to mp3.
I've looked through the thread - (we need to narrow this down into an FAQ maybe, it's so large) and can't find anything.
Help?
If it IS listed, just point me in the right direction.

I think the problem is the output file location which is a SATA HDD (drive K) connected to an onboard chip Marvell 61xx raid controller, not the Intel ICH10R chip. My motherboard is Asus P5Q-E (P45 and ICH10R). The converted file can be saved in another drive (drive H, connected to the ICH10R) but not the 2 drives (drives I and K) attached to the Marvell chip. Both drives I and K have over 100GB of free space and all drives are formatted as NTFS. I am not using RAID, just using the 2 extra SATA jacks from the Marvell chip as regular SATA connections. Perhaps it's a hardware driver and Windows 7 (32bit) issue? I am now testing another movie. Thank you so much for your help. :thanks:

HDC v3
Source is .m2ts and target is .m2ts, blu-ray structure.
Ticking 'Insert Chapters evey...' in the Muxing Tab has no effect. The chapters are not inserted in the .meta.
Normally I would not use this because the chapters are extracted from the source .m2ts. However not all streams include a chapter track. In these cases the 'Insert Chapters every...' would be handy. Can it be done?

Yes it is installed. I ended up replacing the file with a different version and - so far - all is well.
Thank you.
***************** EDIT ***********************
Correction: On the second pass it crashes, so that is still problem #2. BUT problem #1, is more interesting problem, if I convert using any video codec but the container is MP4, and use AC3/448/5.1 in the settings, the resultant file has no sound. If I change the container to anything else - the sound returns to the final file.

mmg DOES recognize h264, you must just manually specify the framerate
and aac audio is recognized too!
try using mmg 4.3.0..
I did that. I reinstalled mkvtoolnix in case that had something to do with it and it still said that it didn't recognize the filetype of the .h264 file.
Heh, heh. I just now tried it again while I'm typing this and now it's working. Must have been a computer issue that required a restart. :p
@nx6
Or you could just load your original file (i assume video & audio & subs) into makemkv, then make mkv.
That's what I ended up doing. I never could get the subtitles to rip from the last chapter of my DVD for some reason. So I acquired a plain-text subtitle file from a third party and just remuxxed my original file, removing vsrip's subs and adding the text-based ones.

I'm using HDC 3.0 (updated) to do some DVD Backup test. I've tried several DVD from film to animation and i've encountered some problem with interlaced material. I've ripped the movie on my HD from the DVD with DVDfab and analyzed with the internal tool of HDC, here is the response (15% of total movie analyzed):
Spirited Away (Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi):
Source is declared tff by a margin of 1306/75.
Analyzed 774 sections of five frames
Found Interlace Sections: 431 55.68%
Found Progressive Sections:179 23.13%
Found Telecined Sections: 164 21.19%
Found Zero Mov: 23.13% 179
Found One Mov: 10.59% 82
Found Two Mov: 21.19% 164
Found Three Mov: 22.74% 176
Found Four Mov: 10.21% 79
Found Five Comb: 12.14% 94
The Movie is declared to interlaced
The Princess and the Frog:
Source is declared bff by a margin of 1898/6.
Analyzed 2262 sections of five frames
Found Interlace Sections: 1914 84.62%
Found Progressive Sections:151 6.68%
Found Telecined Sections: 197 8.71%
Found Zero Mov: 6.68% 151
Found One Mov: 2.12% 48
Found Two Mov: 8.71% 197
Found Three Mov: 12.60% 285
Found Four Mov: 8.84% 200
Found Five Comb: 61.05% 1381
The Movie is declared to interlaced
The final result will be a MKV with Italian and English AC3 audio track and subtitle for both language. For video compression i'm using x264 with CFR 15 setting.
I've tried Interlaced, Interlaced HQ and Yadif Bob but i can't achieve a good result because the final output it's deinterlaced but lacks totally on sharpness (and it's not caused by the compression settings because i'm using a quite high value for CFR). It's like all the edges are all very blurry (maybe later i can post a screenshot).
With progressive material, with the same settings for compression the result is almost identical to the original source with all details preserved.
So the big question is: What is the best way to treat interlaced material (especially Animation and Cartoons)? What filters or chain of filters i should use? Is there a filter that you suggest from HDC?
My first concern is quality so i don't bother for now on computing time or file size (i will find the good balance later ;)).
Thanks for all help!
EDIT: I've read all the suggestions from FPS100 (http://www.100fps.com/) and the best deinterlacer should be Combination of Bob+Weave (=Progressive Scan). Is it possible to achieve on HDC?

Perfect, thanks!
Another minor issue:
When I remove the tickmark for 'Log x264 encoding' in the 'Resizers & Options' tab, it is not saved when I 'Save Settings' but is always restored when I restart HDC. Is this intentional? Anyway, it's really not critical.

Edit: as far as filters go, I'd recommend MSharpen (http://neuron2.net/msharpen/msharpen.html), which is already included in HDC's collection. Just watch out when applying it to DVD material that has already had an edge enhancer added for the DVD encoding. You can end up with a picture that isn't much sharper and now has haloing on the oversharpened edges.

Hey, Buzz. I've been having this problem for awhile where jobs fail right at the start of the encoding process. I can do analysis fine but when I run the job the audio and subtitle ripping works fine, it's when I get to the part where we begin actual video encoding it fails. It was doing it on the project I recently finished and I seemed to be able to get around the problem by clicking "remove all jobs" in the queue, then adding my new job to the queue with the "add to queue" button, then starting the queue. But this time it didn't work. Here's the log from that job (it was a test run, so I had audio/subs disabled).
There is one thing I can tell you about this issue that should help you figure it out. It only happens when I have a de-interlacer filter specified. If I have it set to "none" jobs run fine every time it seems.

Edit: Okay, I figured out how to get around this. Apparently it has to do with me having no audio or subs set up on this test encoding. I threw out the job folder and started again choosing audio and sub tracks this time. After the job failed to run I tried again with the fixed.avs script, and chose the prior encoded audio and subs, and then chose "assume same properties" so the analyze did not run again, and now the job is doing the video encoding. I think when I canceled out of selecting subs and audio (since I had none) before it started the analysis automatically, so I couldn't skip it to avoid the error above.

No errors, here's the text (can't do anything about the word wrap):
Import results: 1276 samples - Slices: 7 I 400 P 869 B - 1 SEI - 7 IDR
Stream uses B-slice references - max frame delay 2
AC3 import - sample rate 48000 - 5.1 channels

What's CRAZY is that the video and audio play fine separately, which obviously (to me) means the muxing is the problem. Do you another proggie to mux this to an MP4 that I can try?

The interlace filters in HDC are listed by situation, not what actual filter is applied. I think there was a list somewhere of which ones use what methods.
You mentioned dealing with interlacing on animated material, so I assumed you were having an issue getting something to encode deinterlaced right (as that's what a spend most of my time dealing with on animated stuff). I'm just saying that if you set up deinterlacing based on what the test tells you and still get combing silliness, it might be because what you actually have is top-field-first material. I have on several occasions had the deinterlace test report incorrect field order or wrong type of deinterlacing needed in animated material because it is older material that has been subjected to multiple frame-rate manipulation changes in mastering for the DVD-release or just because the test is wrong.
AviSynth keeps track of whether a given clip is field-based or frame-based. If the clip is field-based it also keeps track of the parity of each field (that is, whether it's the top or the bottom field of a frame). If the clip is frame-based it keeps track of the dominant field in each frame (that is, which field in the frame comes first when they're separated).
However, this information isn't necessarily correct, because field information usually isn't stored in video files and AviSynth's source filters just normally default to assuming bottom field first...
-- Parity (http://avisynth.org/mediawiki/Parity), AVISynth Wiki
I don't think this will be a big issue with a modern animated feature, especially one created in computer modeling, as it would be possible to output directly to the desired output format and skip the "film" step completely if they wished. This can be an issue if you have a feature that has some computer animation and some traditional drawn, as you could end up with a movie that is telecined for most of the feature and then progressive on certain scenes.
If the test is telling you the material is bottom field first, and you intend to deinterlace with it bottom field first, I don't think it's necessary to add AssumeBFF() in your filter chain. Its only needed if you want it to do something contrary to what it thinks is right.
You asked about the best filters to use with animated material so I suggested one I use for sharpening that will make edges crisper and not accentuate noise. There was a denoise filter I used to use called Convolution3D (http://www.hellninjacommando.com/con3d/) that Buzz had as a part of AutoMKV. It had a specific animation tuned mode. It's useful for denoising colored areas, making them compress better so video bandwidth can be used to improve detail rather than recreating flaws in your source material. I don't know why it's not around anymore. I'm sure it's been depreciated for a better filter since it hasn't been updated since 2002 it seems.
If you want to get really crazy about this you should seek the help of someone who does encoding for anime fansubbers, as they have to deal with all sorts of broadcast problems in the raw video captured from Japanese TV. But that would be overkill for working with modern animated material with an optical disc source. Plus, they way they interact with people really makes it apparent you're dealing with someone between the ages of 16 and 22 sometimes.

What's going on here? You're keeping the video at it's original resolution yet cropping off the top and bottom? Upscaling might be causing the blurriness.
If the field order was the issue it would be very obvious combing using fast action from the field of the next frame being displayed right before the last field of the proceeding frame. Like this:

Dear bzuzzqw,
here are some bugs I found, and also some wishes for future releases ;-)
Bugreport HDConvertToX
- Description: Opening a DVD the IFO is shown. The PGC selection dialog has several bugs:
Crash: When you neither accept a PGC nor reject the IFO, but close the dialog box using the window's close function in the upper right corner, HDConvertToX is crashing
Functional: Multi-Episode DVDs always offer only largest episode. Checking Multi-Episode option doesn't change anything.
Workaround: Use DVD-Shrink's rebuild funktion to extract single episodes from the DVD. Same issue with multi-angle content.
GUI: It is irritating, that in the IFO dialog the autio and subtitle tracks are arranged the opposite way than in the Audeo/Subtitle tab.
- Description: Aspect Ratio is often miscalculated in the resulting MKV, espescially on letterboxed 16:9 content.
Example: The DVD is 4:3, PAR is 768x720.
Anamorphic shape is allways enabled as I do not want to have any resizing done (qualitity loss), just cropping.
Instead I prefer the original resolution that is then streched in the player according to the PAR.
74 lines are cropped bottom and top, resulting in 720x428 video. The PAR of 768x428 should stretch this video to 768x428, which is propper 16:9.
HDConvertToX is doing all fine except the AR that is applied to the MKVMerge line: It requests wrong 1.33:1 and mkvmerge simply keeps the x-resolution of 720 and stretches the y-resolution to 3/4 of X which is 540.
Fix: Tell MKVMerge to obey the Movie Aspect Ration, not the Display Aspect Ratio!
Workaround: Manually edit the queue.bat and apply the correct AR
- Description: Cropping sometimes fails to autocrop propperly, manual cropping is sometimes showing nothing at all.
Workaround: If i do not get propper crop values, I use Handbrake or Xmedia Recode to find propper cropping values and manually add them to HDConvertToX
- Description: HDConvertToX does not handle non ascii characters in Filenames propperly when generating the bat files. The german umlauts äöü ÄÖÜ and ß are not converted propperly from Windows to DOS charset.
Workaround: I avoid those characters in folder aand filenames, but it should be fixed.
- Description: Audio sometimes isn't in sync at all.
While HDConvertToX usually syncs much more precise than Handbrake (the audio tracks are sometimes 1 or 2 frames behind), on some sources it is out of sync for many seconds! Same source converted using Handbrake does sync.
Feature wish list HDConvertToX
- Allow to change the order of audio and subtitle tracks, or add a feature for a user-defined preferred language that is always tagged to be the standard track.
- Allow individual channel and bitrate settings per audio track or let the user define preferred conversion rules, e.g.
HD-Audo -> 5.1 448kb AC3
5.1 AC3 -> 5.1 448kb AC3
2.0 AC3 -> 2.0 128KB MP3
1.0 AC3 -> 1.0 64KB MP3
When you have a BD with HD audio and additional stereo tracks, it now converts HD-Audio to 5.1 448KB AC3 and the stero track is 2.0 448 KB AC3. It gets even worse when you have mono tracks (e.g. old star trek series)
Workaround: I manually set the bitrate to 192 or 96 in queue.bat when I have stereo or mono sources combined with 5.1 tracks.
However it would be nicer to have an option e.g. keep 5.1 as AC3 tracks and convert stereo and mono to mp3

3.0 has a problem with audio and subtitles recognition, as others said.
I have installed 3.0 completely new to a new folder. Analyzed a file, audio tab showsn no audio and no subtitles.
Same movie loaded to my old 2.5 version folder et voila, audio and subtitles recognized (same movie).

I know I'm bitching a lot here, but I'm having a hell'ava time getting this to work with Win 7.
Has ANYONE with Win 7 been able to convert a transport stream file into a MP4 with a AC3 (not AAC) audio stream?
AND if so, did you have to set anything up differently?
Also any problems with the ac3 stream itself (after being demuxed) being 2x the length and playback is in ... 'slo mo'?

I got a bug report to file.
When you encode audio only (to mp3), HDC does not output to the directory you specified. Rather, it just saves the audio file in its own temp folders. Can you please make HDC output the audio to the directory I specified it should save in? I screwed up a bunch of audio in my encodes, and now I wanna reencode audio only, and mux them later.

Hi Macgyver,
have you tried cleaning the ts file using ProjectX? Demux it into seperate video and audio streams, then mux them into a mkv using mkvmergegui. Does the mkv play fine?
AC3 works generally fine on my Win7 x64, no matter if source is DVD or BD or .ts. But for DVD and .ts souces I usually simply do a Copy Audio into the target container.

It's a mp4 problem as I can convert to ANY format with AC3 audio BUT mp4. Xvid/MKV etc with AC3 are fine.

As the original audio is 2 channel AC3, even if I use copy audio with an MP4 container I get the same problem, dandy video but no audio. BUT the ac3 demuxed audio file (via HDCTX) plays fine.
Interestingly Handbrake FWIW does fine with that combo and even a Fairuse conversion from an ISO with that combo works well.
I heard rumblings that mp4box has problems with AC3, but then I hear from gents like yourself that state otherwise.
I've been pulling my hair out.

I have the same problem, that converting a DVD with a 16:9 format the end result is a 4:3 format video, and it's completely distorted.
I didn't quite understand how to edit the queue to apply the correct aspect ratio: could you explain that a bit more? I understand it's in the fifth line, where it says "-aspectratio 1:0.00000000" or something like that, but what do I write to keep it 16:9?

Hey
I encountered a problem by using HDconverttoX. The program crashed when I started to load the .IFO file of the movie (I also tried everyone of them) The select PGC screen appeared but was empty... I also waited once for 10 min but it's frozen. I tried it with diffrent DVD rips but none of them worked.
Any Ideas/Solutions?
To rip the DVD I used DVD Decripter & DVD43.

Hi, I'm having converting a DVD I have ripped to my HDD. When I select video_ts.ifo The PGC length is reported as 1 second long, meaning I can't use the Multi episode DVD check box to convert all the episodes on the DVD unless I add each one manually.
Considering I have quite a few DVDs to do this with, I'd rather find a workaround. Does anyone know a way to get around this problem, such as re-ripping the DVD using different settings (I used SmartRipper to copy the whole DVD)?
EDIT: Didn't realise I could select multiple IFOs when I open the files. This should work.
EDIT2: No you can't, it only reads the first IFO you select. My problem still stands.

@Queelis:
In HDConvertToX on the Main page in Source file info you should see two values that were calculated during analysis: Display AR and Movie AR. Movie AR is what you get after cropping the black borders. Thats what the MKVMerge line should contain. If HDConvertToX does not calculate a propper AR, simply edit the queue manually and apply a proper value 3:4 (TV), 9:16 (Widescreen) or 1:2.35 (Cinemascope)

I already reported this issue in my previous post.
I currently use this workaround:
For DVD: Open DVD-files in DVD-Shrink, go to Re-author, drag episode into new DVD, select no compression, select desired audio and subtitle tracks. Build one DVD per Episode. Destination Hard disk folder, do not burn DVD.
For BluRay I use BD-Info to find what playlist entry is assigned to an episode, then use TS-Muxer to create BluRay folder structure, one per Episode.
For episode DVDs where all episodes are joined in a single VTS and only seperated as chapters, I use Handbrake to convert them, HDConvertToX doesn't work for those.

Workaround:If i do not get proper crop values, I use Handbrake or Xmedia Recode to find proper cropping values and manually add them to HDConvertToX.
I think HDC is a very fine piece of sofware and now very stable, but I must agree with above about cropping in terms of it is a valid point to examine further. The top and bottom crop numbers are the complete opposite of Automen, Handbrake analysis e.g top 66, bottom 74 will be so in these 2 applications, but opposite in HDC analysis of top and bottom crop figures and slightly larger eg top 76, bottom 68. Xmedia Recode's tally more less with HDC.
If you decide to reverse them in line with 2 programs mentioned, then the aspect becomes slightly narrower after the final encoding is done to compensate e.g 2.3750 to 2.4.x display A.R will show with original aspect showing a ratio error along with your chosen resolution. Best to leave the original HDC autocrop prior to job encoding, so resizing by chosen filter eg lanczos works it all out, then final job shows no aspect ratio error with your resolution and display A.R.
Maybe this is how HDC decides to work things out and is not a bug at all?
My question is: the line command change to delete job1/temp files in HDC folder is 1 isn't it, if I am not mistaken? Thankyou.

Probably a bug:
Source is m2ts, 23.976 fps
Encode target is Xvid in mkv,
- with Change fps to 25 for video
- with Convert Audio to PAL (=speedup)
All works fine, with the exception of the subtitles where speedup is missing (BDSup2Sub can do it, it's just not yet included in the command line of the HDC batch file).

In advanced options most of the filters work fine, but I am having trouble with QMF FluxSmooth.avs. In Xvid 2 pass my encoding always crashes just after the avi-mux operation. Basic filter: SoftSharpen preset film works fine with other QMF.
Hqndn3d_Denoise.avs is very good resultwise are other QMLF filters, so I never use the video denoise filter with strengths "none to severe" as it is basically the same??? so why have two of the same enabled?

With the latest version subtitles and audio are not detected (this happens with all samples).
Box 1: Old version v.2.5.649.4295 detects subtitles and audio
Box 2: New version v.3.0.691.4632 does not detect subtitles and audio
Solution:
"Format C:" & "Fresh install Windows Vista 32bit": Subtitles and audio are detected now with the latest version v.3.0. \o/.

I'v used this on XP 32bit and everything else went fine but x264 crashes when it need memory more than 2Gb.
Now I updated my OS to win7 pro x64 but I can't get HDConvertToX to find FFDShow (x64) :/
I'v tried to install 32bit FFDShow to next of 64bit version, but then x264 crashes on video analyze phase
FFDShow x64 + AVIsynth x64 working well when playing with mplayerc-HC same m2ts test video

I primarily use AutoMen and the forum for that is pretty dead, by looks of it not far from it here. Maybe the developer Buzz is having a well deserved rest, so maybe someone here can answer you instead. I also have Win7 64 bit and am interested to see how you get on with solving this issue. I only use HDC on my XP 32bit system as it runs relatively bug free encoding avi. x264 is trickier!

See first post by Buzzqw in this thread, I think you need to use win7 tweaker.

Dear bzuzzqw,
here are some bugs I found, and also some wishes for future releases ;-)
Bugreport HDConvertToX
I think there is an easy solution to this:
Simply delete the '--aspect-ratio -1:xxx' in the command line for MKVmerge. MKVmerge will then by default calculate the display aspect ratio from the stream header and PAR which is calculated by HDC, taking any cropping and resizing into account.

Did you remove the old work folder from previous version before re-doing. If you updated HDC but used batch file from previous version same error will occur. You need to ensure the file is re analysed.

Hi,
I had a problem with HDConvert the other day. My output file pixelated for a second in the beginning and then the movie went out of sync. I wasn't aware of the option to post a report before I sent said file to the Recycle Bin.
Anyway, I wanted to see if uninstalling the various required software and starting over from scratch will help me overcome this problem. Also, when I did install the software, I didn't see any options for allowing Haali Media Splitter to handle Mpeg/PS files nor did I see an option for allowing mpeg2 AND DVD Support as decoding in FFDShow.
Can anyone help me locate these options? Thanks.

very nice app this, but cant help idiot users like me making silly mistakes, ;) after a few trial runs to work out what I wanted, I setup a big batch and recoded alot of avchd video, I changed it to pal from ntsc but missed changing the audio (facepalm)
I saw previously you could just copy the video but the mp4 files it creates it wont let me do this, and if I select encode audio only it just ouputs a single ac3 file and then when it does the next in the batch overwrites this file. It does not like it when it analyzes the file,
can anyone help / advise : what is the easiest way to recode the audio in all the mp4 files so they are pal ac3?
dont really want to have to recode the lot from scratch, but its about the "simplest" solution that I can see, as the rest is alot of manual work with various tools?
thanks guys :)

just been playing with it, and I think its because for some reason the encodes where failing when using default settings that for audio force directshowsource was set, and this seems to fail to alter the FPS of the audio ?

I'm having audio/video sync issues trying to encode this blu-ray disc. The resulting file seems like video is about 1 second ahead of audio, the same delay throughout the entire video. Thoughts?

Remember that there are character limits on how long a single DOS command can be.
I recommend shortening titles to single words or short phrases and not using spaces to avoid HDC or it's parts losing track of a file path.
This is one reason it is recommended you keep HDC on the root level of a drive instead of in a personal documents folder since the extra path info is so long. I've seen things not work right because of "Documents and Settings".

I originally thought specific avisynth filters do not work in HDConvertX as stated by me in an earlier post and crash during muxing phase. They all work fine, in fact it is Avi-Mux which is causing the encoding crash and using the cbr setting in your HDConvertX encoding audio setting:
Using MP4 HDC(AVI-MUX utility) throws up the question occasionally about checking for cbr so "Always check for cbr" must be changed to "never check for cbr," in AVI-Mux itself. If you do not change and say "yes or No" to the question which it may ask you during the final muxing phase e.g after your 2 pass avi, the HDC program crashes anyway and you are left with an audio free failed encoding. Using abr audio as your choice does not necessarily avoid it, as it still checks for cbr so AVI-MUX options must be changed and saved in HDC main settings too.
Finally there are still some audio synch issues using MKV or MP4 as source input. Using DVD or AVI as an input causes no noticeable audio synch issues. Thanks.

See first post by Buzzqw in this thread, I think you need to use win7 tweaker.
I'v use that win7 tweaker w/o any action. Problem occurs on HDConvertToX startup when using 64bit FFDshow. With 32bit ffdshow HDConvertToX starts OK, but x264 crashes

It's VC-1, ensure your VC-1 decoder is setup as per links in post #1 (ie FFDShow set to WMV9 to decode) ...

I probably bumped into another bug:
When selecting a bobbing deinterlacer (e.g. yadif Bob) which doubles the framerate, the fps= in the .meta sticks to the original framerate and the video plays at half speed.
I think the easiest solution is not to specify the fps= for the .meta and let TSmuxer take the fps from the video stream.

Would it be possible to add a box to select the number of threads to use for x264 encodes? Currently "auto" is passed in the command line. This is starting 36 threads on my machine. I get smaller encodes and with the same performance using 12 threads. I've been manually updating the queue to change it to 12 before starting, but it would be easier if I could set it once and not have to change it every time.
Thanks

@sharc: It was already set as indicated. I tried un-installing and re-installing all software, re-encoded, ended up still with the same video-ahead-of-audio sync issue.
I also tried a different VC-1 file, and it decoded / re-encoded without any video/audio sync issues.
Any other thoughts? Perhaps because it's so long? (3 hours). It's out-of-sync a fixed amount at both the beginning and end of the clip.

I'm confused by something. Using latest version and update from first post on WinXP SP3.
Converting 1080p x264 content to 720p x264 with 2 pass.
I set the final MB to 666mb which shows below that the bitrate is 3832kbps. The audio was set to be copied untouched.
After adding it to the queue, the script says "--bitrate 3573".
I let it encode anyway and the final bitrate really is 3573kbps and the file size is 623mb.
I can understand size variation with one-pass modes, but 2 pass should be bang on. Considering that the queue script bitrate wasn't the same as the one calculated on the video tab, that's probably the issue.

Same has happened to me when trying to recode avi from mp4 or MP4 in MKV container. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. Alternately to what you say the problem could be the recompression/quality test etc, and if you are increasing bitrate e.g say encoding to avi from smaller sized mkv file and increasing bitrate/changing resolution, then the compression figures may be over 100%, hence undersizing or the codec used may indeed go a little bonkers too, if you decrease bitrate. If there are other explanations, I would like to know too, but this Forum as well as Automen's is pretty dead.
If this occurs use TMPGencXpress and encode it using DivX 5, 2pass. I never encounter any of this undersizing with it, and have had 100% success so far with things HDC could not sometimes handle.

.., but this Forum as well as Automen's is pretty dead.
You are not wrong there!:)
There are some dud??? advanced avisynth filters in HDC which need addressing/fixing/removing. Diego King of Queens in QMF does not work as does Fluxsmooth in QMF. Both cause AVI-Mux to initiate early after indexing operation and give error message 'file already in use.' Encoding then is aborted before 1st pass etc.
Also 'shutdown' does not work. When added to a queue it never functions. Just some bugs for developer to address. Thankyou.

Hello guys,
First at all I'd like to thank buzzqw for the great job! :thanks: Then, I'd like to ask some help about a problem I have in encoding a Blu-Ray DVD.
I run Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate on my pc, I followed rickatnight11's rules to install K-Lite Codec Pack 32-bit, then I installed K-Lite codec Pack 64-bit and its updates in my system. I also turned AVIMux_GUI.exe compatibility in Windows XP SP2, but I encouter troubles in encoding.
The problem is in freezing application after some time it's working, and nothing is possible to make it finishing conversion.
I attach a report, hoping it can help someone here to solve my issue.
Thank you very much to all people who will help me. Have a good day

I have a deblocker question.
My source is 1080p but with terrible blocking artifacts. I'm looking to re-encode to 720p, but I'm having trouble cleaning the source.
HDConverttoX seems to disable x264 decoder's internal deblocking leaving me with artifact-y (if not an accurate) conversion.
Adding my own deblocker is less effective and since it is applied AFTER the resize doesn't quite work as well.
Interestingly, I noticed that all scripts automatically import Deblock_QED_MT2, but I can find no option that actually enables it.
I guess my question is there away to get the x264 decoder's deblocking to do it's job? Does anyone have any other suggestion?
BTW, as for the undersize issue with 2-pass encodings, the problem occurs when copying audio tracks from the source.
It gets the video bitrate right if it is encoding and knows the target audio bitrate, but when it's copying the audio it seems unable to read the original track's file size properly.
Edit: Best work around for the bitrate problem--
-Go to the Audio tab and set the stream as if you WERE re-encoding it. Set the audio bitrate and codec to what your current track already is.
-Go to the Video tab and set up your 2-pass settings. Write down the bitrate that is automatically calculated.
-Go back to the Audio tab and change the 'Encode using:" to 'Copy Audio'.
-Go back to the Video tab and fill in the 'Manually Set Bitrate:' box with the number you wrote down in step 2.
A bit more effort, but you'll be able to maximize your quality until this bug is fixed.

I did two avi(xvid) encodings of same source one with Automen and other with HDConvertXtoDVD and using a 5.1 track to convert to mp3 128abr joint stereo. I checked via mp3ain tool and Media Info Tool which shows different replay gain values. Both audio are nearly the same size, but the slightly smaller one(by 0.2mb) AutoMen(84.4db ) is much louder/balanced overall. I checked via two dvd player playback checks, whilst the HDC(85.2db) test track though slightly higher db has incredibly quiet speech/vocals, but the effects in this HDC track are normal to overly loud. Turning up the TV has no effect on main vocals of track encoded via HDConverttoX, but effects explosions, music of said track only etc. I fail to understand this when 128abr was used in both encodings.
Obviously they are not the same, but I assumed same Lame switches at 128abr used would give similar results. Is it due to the replay gain method used/tags/audio blocks encoded in mp3 track at start or sound algorithmns/loudness adjustments when the audio is encoded and later decoded during playback on a standalone(I tested on Philips and LG DivX certified players? HDConvertoX does this to nearly all of my xvid encodings which come out with unbalanced mp3 audio encoded track after converting from some 5.1 tracks.
The Forum support for these software are virtually dead of late so cannot ask developer. Any of you audio savvy guys would you please explain how this strange audio issue could be occurring in this way to my encodings? Thanks

5.1 AC3 tracks have a function called "dialogue normalization" ....
I am betting HDC is encoding the AC3 5.1 without first removing the dialogue normalization (hence lower "volume") ...
Try forcing HDC to do the audio conversion via EAC3to (instead of whatever you are using like "DirectShow") ...

The default is EAC3(as I said, I used default) and I think it must be the problem here. After using force FFMEG I find it does not produce this low vocal issue from surround tracks like AC-3to mp3 conversion as in the EAC3 decoding process.

Hi,
I have converted a couple of blu-ray movies to mkv with HDConvertToX, but I have problems with the subtitles when playing the mkv's on my Tvix-6500. The mkv's plays fine with subtitles on my computer but on the Tvix the font of the subtitle is changed and the subtitle sometimes totally disappears. The problem seems to be the font. If only converting the blu-ray movie to a large m2ts file with tsMuxer then everything works fine on the Tvix but when converting the m2ts file to mkv with HDConvertTox then the subtitle problems appears. I have used muxed subtitles in the mkv container (not embedded in the video stream). There is no real subtitle settings in HDConvertToX, so I'm a little confused here. Is there anyone who has any ideas of why the subtitles works fine on my computer but not on the Tvix?

1. LOL Google -> haali media splitter !?!?!? BINGO....
2. Say NO, and Never install x64 version of any codec if you don`t know how they work. It`s too complicated to explain in two lines and actually you gain 10% in speed MAX.
3. Probably you missing something
4. win7dstweaker doesn`t have anything with almost any program except default windows media player and most programs using their codecs or settings.

so far after restart haali ok
so just two issues to go:
1-if i load IFO (DVD) , program will not load pgc(will stop responding), where i should look for problem?
i have tried to apply all ffdshow setup as per info for windows 7 users but dvd cant be loaded...similar issue from user on page 182..so i believe it might be a bug...buzzgw can you please tell us where to look for this issue to be resolved?
(i can load other files ok, just IFO DVD not)
RESOLVED-windows 7 need start program as administrator
2-how to stop program asking me if i want to switch to x264 64bit...?
should i convert in x264 64bit or not? any advantage in speed?
thanks guys

I've had no luck running the 64bit. I'm using the 32 bit version on a 64-bit Win 7 machine. I don't remember exactly what the problem was but you might want to try the 32 bit and see if things work better for you.
Running the 32-bit, the encode dies sometimes with an error message about x264.exe has stopped working. I also see brief glitches in the video sometimes. If I rencode, they usually go away. I've updated to the latest x264 executable and the latest ffdshow tryout code but the problems remain. But since the Win7 machine encodes 10 times faster than the WinXP system I used to use, it's hard to give up that extra speed. I've tried limiting the number of threads used to 12 or so and it doesn't help. The auto setting picks 36 threads ( Dual, 6 core processors with hyperthreading ).
The machine does have an NVidia card and I have a license for the NVTools software but I haven't tried that yet.
I don't know of any way to shut off the question asking to switch to 64 bit.

having issues with hdconverttox
(dont understand why version 3 has still basic issues which automkv did not have even before version 1)
1. audio video out of sync (converting pal dvd from ifo to x264 mkv-have to say that previous soft automkv did not do this but unfortunatelly is dead horse and audio conversion does not work there in windows 7 anymore even if i change bassaudio.dll)
(if someone knows how to use automkv properly in windows 7 64bit and what needs to be changed please let me know as my automkv stops by encoding audio doing nothing no matter what audio codec is choosen only if i choose copy original than it works ok)
2. video is not deinterlaced (animation source has horizontal lines by movement and i used animation x264 preset on-in automkv was auto option for deinterlace, here in hdconverttox you dont know what to choose from, way too complicated for normal user)
i have this interlace test:
Source is declared tff by a margin of 559/17.
Analyzed 2308 sections of five frames
Found Interlace Sections: 1081 46.84%
Found Progressive Sections:575 24.91%
Found Telecined Sections: 652 28.25%
Found Zero Mov: 24.91% 575
Found One Mov: 14.99% 346
Found Two Mov: 28.25% 652
Found Three Mov: 20.10% 464
Found Four Mov: 3.73% 86
Found Five Comb: 8.02% 185
(what deinterlace filter to choose from list? what is source is declared TFF?)
3-no file output (dvd with episodes selected before analyze)
report file below
UPDATE ABOUT NO FILE OUTPUT
if you getting no file output is because eac3to outputs pid-80.mp3 file name and mkvmerge pid-2.mp3 file name...so cant be muxed together
the only way how to get over it is to put job in queue and manually edit string to match both same name like pid-2.
hope this helps

also is this program dead or alive as i could see program writer latest post is in october 2010...which is 5 months back...
hopefully it will not end up like with automkv which was good program but was left to die....
there should be closed version which will actually work and install properly with all avisynth, ffdshow, haali, xvid necessities as so far it does not have stable performance and you never know if you get output or not after many hours converting, or if audio will not be out of sync.
this needs to be addressed.....

The problem with the pid-80, pid-2 naming issue has been fixed several times. It looks like you are using a version newer than I am, so I'm not sure why it's still broken for you. There might be some path that you are using that hasn't been fixed yet. I tried the auto-update feature and it gives a version that is still downlevel from yours. I assume you just downloaded the latest update from the first post? I'll try downloading that version to see if the naming issue came back in that version.

i have checked with older version and same issue...
so somehow we have 2 problems:
1.PID audio number bug (eac3to reports different pid comparing to mkvmerge so no file output at the end.
(unfortunatelly other audio conversion like soundout or ffdshow does not work either-also getting problems)
2.while converting pal IFO dvd to mkv x264+mp3, audio is out of sync a bit.
is there any way to find out why from queue ini or what to look for?
is buzz alive or why he did not updated and fixed these issues for more than 5 months. anyone knows?

After the AC3 audio is converted to MP3, the next step is the recoding of the video.
The AVS2AVI program starts, but ends up failing with this error:
Unable to open compressor with fourCC "divx".
Any ideas as to why?
UPDATE: The XviD to AVI works, but not the DivX to AVI. Just what exactly is it looking for? DivX isn't listed in the required programs in the first post, so I figured it was included.

The XviD encoding option works and the result was playable on the person's DivX DVD player, so the issue is resolved in a roundabout way.

Megui runs right on the heels of x264 release and is easily updated including a vast amount of tweakability with avisynth etc. Most of the other encoders use the handbrake cli vidcoder ckmox etc
FFcoder has x264 and avisynth but I haven't been able to get a successful encode from it yet and can't figure out where the error comes from so you will be on your own there. Ripbot is simple powerful and effective.

Video and audio conversion is quick and sweet but there doesn't appear to be any way to adjust the subtitles within the same HDConvertToX pass.
Is this a feature than can be added in future releases?
For now I have to extract the subtitles and run them through Subresync.

Yeah, I spoke too soon. I had installed an older version in the past to get rid of it but it's working with a current version of Haali atm(1.9.42.1). It did complain once or twice, only thing I can think of that I did was save some changes to the starting ini file.
MrVideo
16th July 2011, 17:23
How can version 1.9.42.1 be newer than version 1.10.175.0? :D
In any event, I found the cause. HDConvertToX needs a minor fix. I looked at the html manual and it says that MPEG2/PS support needs to be enabled during the install. So, I went and reinstalled Haali to see what the settings were. Sure enough, that one is not checked by default. So I set it. Now the program starts.
The program needs to be fixed to report that Haali needs to be installed with MPEG2/PS selected, instead saying that Haali needs to be installed, which it was. It is a false error.

Hi, I've come back to using this app....
A question using the Nero aac encoder.
Input file is a. M2ts file with dts-core lpcm inside....
Currently outputting 64kbps 22.05KHz x 2ch AAC (HE-AAC/LC)
I got the info from media-info, also PS3 shows the same
Is 22.05, or even 24.0kHz OK for audio quality?
I tried resampling to 96kHz thinking I'd get 2ch @2x48khz. ...but it made 2 audio streams strangely, LOL :-!

Yeah, it really sucks in my opinion. I still want to use the program and wish it was being maintained and updated, as well as supported. It still has its uses, but is no longer... well, you know.
Can anyone give me a good replacement program for the same functions? I've tried a dozen programs, including "Super" but most programs are missing this or that or don't work as intended or needed. My most important need is to convert MKV's and other formats to mostly xvid avi's to play on my USB input flat screen TV that is limited in ability. I want to take good high quality sources such as bluray or brayrips, etc. and convert them to xvide avi to play as I just said. But, I want to maintain as much massive resolution/quality as possible.
I've got a dozen different tools and takes a day or two or more to mix and match my needs or conversion, quality, adding subs, etc. just to get what I want.
I could use some suggestions to replace what was an otherwise good tool that is no longer being maintained here for us !!
Anyone?

Trying to encode for Xbox 360. What am I doing wrong?

Buzzqw hasnt maintained this for a while. The x264 version in here has changed significantly. Can I suggest switching to another encoder several in this forum will do what you need.

I would suggest Xvid4PSP. The 5.x branch is being patched by someone on Google Code and is quite good.

I got this to work with a good 70% of my mkv and m2ts files, and that was after a long search! Tonight I managed to handle part of the remaining 30%, so I really would prefer to stick with this. I have tried Xvid4PSP - where's all the settings? I couldn't access anything like bitrate or the other stuff I need.
Was also wondering how to work with DTS audio? I gather I'm supposed to pass it through for the Xbox 360? Can I do anything with DTS and DD 5.1 using Xvid4PSP for the Xbox 360? Any tutorials detail this? Can I do this process, or something just as fast, in Xvid4PSP:

Click the little gear icon button next to the preset setting to customize it. Make sure the video encoding mode is set to use bitrate and not a CQ value if you want to control the bitrate. ;)

If your source has DTS or some other format the XBox supports you could just choose the "Copy Audio" function so it doesn't get transcoded.

Not gonna read that at the moment. Going to bed now (and not gonna spam up HDConvertToX's thread anymore). It helps if you know what the playback capabilities are for the XBox when setting settings of course.
Edit: Okay, I read that real fast, and it just looks like you're remuxing an existing video into MP4. I don't get why you'd need to specify bitrate if you're not actually encoding anything. You should just be able to use a tool like MP4muxer to move everything from the original MKV or m2ts into an MP4 container.

I know that it's pretty outdated but as many have stated, you can just update the filters manually and be done with it...
...but now so it happens that I've run across a little problem when adding new filters to the filters folder.
Let's say I wanna download warpsharp and add it (I know aWarpsharp is already there but this is just an example) then it can sometimes give me this "Please check media properties" error when analyzing a file. Do note that some filters work fine and others don't - some that don't tends to work after downloading a different version.
Anyone know if there is an easier way to solve this problem? I have also noted that after adding them into the filters folder and started encoding - right when it starts to encode (meaning after demuxing) the cmd disappears out of the blue and the encode obviously stops. This is only with a few filters and happened with a filter or two that was added by the developer (so it was already present).

I used this software for my encodes exclusively for awhile. Then I discovered handbrake. I do all my encoding to h264 now (I went through the whole xbox360, ps3, media center compatibility thing). I finally got a WDTV live and now I encode EVERYTHING into MKV with x264, passthrough audio. I've got PS3MediaServer running on the PC so all my networked devices still work with the files. Just my 2 cents on recommended alternatives.

You are using pass through audio which negates one of my main concerns which is faac audio that handbrake uses to encode.
