I am UNABLE TO ENCODE AC3 audio to mp3 at ALL...only to AAC.
I'd like to be able to Re-encode 448kbps AC3 CBR audio to say 384Kbps VBR AC3...but NOTHING...
Can someone PLEASE GUIDE me as to how I can fix this and where to start looking to troubleshoot...thanks
Vista Ultimate
All codecs installed
BeSweet/BeLight used already & failed
MeGUI only lets me encode AAC successfully...

Mp3 only support mono/stereo audio, I think your AC3 448 Kb/s is a 5.1 (surround with 6 channel) and can't be concerted directly to mp3.
With BeHappy/MeGUI you need use a downmix mode (stereo or Dolby Prologic)
With BeLight you need go to 'Advanced Settings' and select a 'Output mode' like 'stereo'/'dpl'/'dplii'

Trust me, I have done so...and it doesn't work properly.
My MAIN concern right now is encoding AC3 file from one bitrate 448 CBR to 384 VBR...

Why?

ac3 VBR is not supported in avi, vob, ... containers.

ok, AC3 works...first time for me under Vista.
NOW I need to figure out why BeLight/BeSweet will NOT do mp3 encodes from my AC3 files... :( will post a log as soon as possible.

My biggest problem NOW is figuring out why I can NOT encode ac3 to mp3. I'm really at a loss here. Where do I start to find the problem?

in the LAME presets, ensure to have selected "Downmix Multichannel to Stereo" for Output Channels...

Lastly, now I wanna learn how to CLEAN UP audio ac3...such as hisses, or what not. The reason why is that I have a movie from 1975 on DVD...it's @ 384 5.1ac3.
I want to clean OUT the hisses, change channels to 2-channel and keep @ 384. Any suggestions?
Regarding 5.1 --> 2 channels, is because the movie was originally in mono/stereo and DVD company upped it to 5.1 and sounds bad :(

Why would want to keep it at 384kbps when 640kbps would give better quality?

AC3 file is @ 384 5.1...and wish to convert it to 2ch AC3 at same bitrate...and also clean out hisses and garbage...
where did you get 640 from?

I would go for 192kbps AC3 2-channels. It's how most of nowadays DVDs are dubbed and I think such quality is more than sufficient for stereo AC3.
