Hi guys, long time without posting.
Using Win2008 x64 I've just noticed DVD Decrypter doesn't work anymore.
Would anybody be able to recommend any [new] rip software? Right now what I need to do is rip some audio tracks from a DVD...
:thanks:

I don't know if it will work for you, but you could always try SmartRipper.

Maybe you want to give DVDFab Decrypter (http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm) a try?

Thanks for your replies!
I tried them both, but they simply won't see the DVD. Almost the same problem with DVD Decrypter. =(
Ideas will gonna be welcome.

Hi!
It no longer sounds like DVD Decrypter isn't working.
Rather, it sounds like you've either got a DVD that has an "Autorun" file on it or you DVD reader/burner is failing.
What is the Title and Region number of the DVD?

Hi setarip, and thanks for your reply.
DVD Decrypter (or DVDFab) won't se the DVD *drive* at all. Is not some special DVD, they won't simply see the drive in Win2008 x64.
Something related with the drivers or the access mode I guess (I wasn't able to get information regarding this issue tough).
Edit: in Win2008 x86 DVD Descrypter will sometimes throw some strange error, but it will work.

In DVDFab, did you try both "I/O Mode" settings, ASPI and SPTI? Is a suitable ASPI driver installed on your system?

Thanks Mulder for your reply.
I looked around and tried different things. I found out it wass only a security issue. DVD Decrypter (or any ripping software, afaik) has to be run "as administrator".
After that, DVD Decrypter is alive again. =)

Anyway, DVD Decrypter is outdated and won't handle the obscurities of many discs. DVDFab should even handle the newest discs.
For old discs DVD Decrypter is still fine through...

Hi!
Although you and I both know that your advice about DVD Decrypter is, in general terms, spot on, the OP has stated a specific need:Right now what I need to do is rip some audio tracks from a DVD...I'm fairly certain that the freeware version of DVDFab HD Decrypter does not provide that capability - hence the continued usability of either good ol' DVD Decrypter - or even older SmartRipper ;>}

If he wants to extract audio tracks from a Video-DVD -- one that cannot be handled by "old" tools like DVD Decrypter or Smart Ripper -- he can rip/decrypt the VOB files to his HDD with the free version of DVDFab and then demux the audio stream with a tool like DGIndex or ProjectX. Not as elegant as DVD Decrypter's "Stream Processing" mode, but it works...

After ripping, with DVD Fab HD Decrypter or similar, the OP could then simply use SmartRipper too (SmartRipper CAN read hard drive files, whereas DVD Decrypter can't)...

Can one still use DVD Decrypter with no restrictions with AnyDVD running in the background?

I think so. DVD Decrypter would simply see an "unproteced" discs. But one needs to buy AnyDVD for that method...

I have no problem with paying for a software if it delivers what it promises, or lets me use methods of ripping that are much simpler (or just plain work) than others. I would have paid for DVD Decrypter long ago if it hadn't been freeware.

@CWR03
I was a diehard of the free programs, but when at the beginning of the year Slysoft had the special offer, I took advantage of it and got both AnyDVD & CloneDVD2, also got the VirtualCloneDVD(freeware). Glad I did. Btwn the 3, use them now for virtulally everything but will still use DVDShrink to sort out just the movie. The thing I like is that you can do a DL seamlessly with CloneDVD. To me it was money well spent for alot less hassle. Still have all the other programs as a backup.

With some disks DvD Decryptor spits out stuff like this even while AnyDvD is running.
W 14:05:11 Possible Structure Protection Found!
W 14:05:11 8 areas have been marked as 'suspect'.
W 14:05:11 Dummy sectors will be inserted where necessary.
But it doesn't seem to harm anything.

After installing DVD Fab HD Decrypter 5.2.3.2 it failed to rip a DVD (The Great Debaters). That's the first time DVD Fab HD Decrypter failed me. Perhaps there's an issue with the latest DVD Fab HD Decrypter? DVDSmith Movie Backup (also freeware) worked right away so I've been using it in conjunction with DVD Shrink since.

Hi!
DVDFab HD Decrypter should have no problem with that DVD title.
You might want to carefully examine the disc for either dirt, grime (fingerprints, etc.) or physical damage...
