Im going to encode some Sources to x264 AVCHD compliant.

I know the standard to keep it DXVA complaint
1920x1080 = 4 Ref frames
1920x800/816 = 5 Ref frames
1280x720 = 11 (i think so)
However....

How much Refframes are the maximum for AVCHD ?
I know that my standalone Sony BDP S350 has no Problem with 5 Refframes (Level 4.1) for 720p.

Is there a Guideline for AVCHD ?

I'd venture that, since the AVCHD spec covers resolutions from 720x480 to 1920x1080, the same rules apply...

"same Rules apply" ?
You mean the usual Level "4.1 Rules" ?

I found some Postings on other Sides and People talk about off. Specs for HD/AVCHD Level 4.1 HP
Max. 9 Ref Frames for 1280x720 and 4 Ref Frames for 1920x1080

http://bugs.avidemux.org/index.php?do=details&task_id=465

EDIT.
Im not sure if 9 Ref frames are OK for 720p (4 for 1920x1080)x264 AVCHD Level 4.1 on SA Blurayplayers.
Ive to test i on my Sony BDP S350 when get my Sony Full HD LCD back.

But im sure that somebody here must knows it ? :)

Ive back my FullHD LCD and made some Tests.

1280x720 9 Ref Frames Level 4.0 6Mbps/25Mbps Max Bitrate works perfectly fine on my Sony BDP S350
1920x1080 4 Ref Frames too

Now i will Test Level 4.1 with 25Mbps VBV

Max Ref for High@L4 = 8294400 / (width * height).

So then you get,
1920x1080 -> 4 refs
1280x720 -> 9 refs
1280x544 -> 11
1280x528 -> 12
1024x576 -> 14
848x480 -> 16 refs
