I noticed today that my dvdrebuilder would not start on any of my three computers. I reinstalled and reinstalled but it just would not start. The only thing I had done was install zonealarm 8.0.298.000 extreme which has forcefield. Being the computer nut I am I removed zonealarm and then rebuilder would start. I then found that if I just went to services ans stopped forcefield iswsvc service from starting then rebuilder will start. What I mean by will not start is that I can click on the shortcut of go to the folder for builder and click on rebuilder.exe and I get nothing unless I stop forcefield iswsvc. Funny thing I can then restart forcefield in services and it rebuilder will start everytime until I restart my computer. After restart rebuilder will not start until I stop forcefield iswsvc.. This is the only program that is doing this and it is doing it all three machines running xp pro and zonealarm extreme.

I tried going to zonealarm and stopping forcefield but that did not work you have to go into services and stip the Iswsvc service in order for rebuilder to start.

Sounds like a zonealarm issue... not sure what I can do. :(

yes that is what I figured myself sent them to your site to download you program and check for themselves. They told me to do a clean of zonealarm and try again. Like that will fix it when it is doing it on three computers. I had already done that. Never seen anything like this before I figure when I find out what is causing it that it will be something simple. going to take and install your program on my laptop and see what happens there.

 "My site" told you? I don't know where you sent it but it wasn't my site. I also don't know who "they" are. My only site is http://www.jdobbs.com and it doesn't have a forum. In fact, the official forum for DVD Rebuilder is the one you're on right now.

Well I took and removed zonealarm suite on my laptop using clean uninstall. Then installed there new zonealarm extreme restarted computer. The extreme is the one with forcefield. I then loaded dvdrebuilder pro which had never been on the laptop. Same as the others click on the shortcut for rebuilder nothing not even the window to download my key. stopped the forcefield iswsvc.exe service and then rebuilder.exe would work. I could understand if zonealarm was saying something about your rebuilder.exe was showing as a virus or something but that is not the case zonealarm antivirus can be stopped as for as that concerned all of zonealarm can be stopped except for the ISWsvc.exe service, and rebuilder.exe will not work. Stop the ISWsvc.exe in windows services and rebuilder.exe works. It zonealarm problem do not know what and have sent the problem to them will repost when they give me answer. That four computers with zonealarm extreme on it all will not let you open builder until you stop the forcefield service ISWsvc.

A good guess would be that there are probably other programs that will not work either -- you just haven't run into them yet. Sounds like "protection gone wild".

Of course I am making this statement on the assumption that this is a registered version that was downloaded from the jdobbs.com site. I can't predict what else may be come along for "free" when a person downloads one of the cracked versions (which typically don't work correctly anyhow). Note: this isn't directed at you, samlar, but as a general note to all.

My opinion is simple. When a tool that is meant to protect your computer make your computer unusable -- dump it.

I use Zone Alarm security suite and it will stop some applications from running. To stop this you open Zonealarm, choose program control, and then programs. Scroll down through the list of applications and look for BD Rebuilder (it might be listed more than once) and then in the column to the right called Trust Level; click on the "?" and set it to trusted or super and that should take care of it.

jdobbs I sent zonealarm tech support to the download for dvdrebuilder is what I meant to say. As for as Sophocles statement it is not zonealarm security that is causing the problem I have bot suite and extreme, the suite works fine with dvdrebuilder. Even the zonealarm part of there new extreme works fine and i tried what you said the very first thing but that is not the problem. It is the forcefield part of extreme that is causing the problem.

Who cares, lol it's just a false positive. Forget about it - add rebuilder.exe or whatever to your "allowed" list in your software and get on with your life. If there is no "allowed" list, then just get rid of it. Sounds stupid anyway, unless you're a terrorist\paedophile you don't need any software with the name "extreme" in it. :)

Haven't you got an antivirus program with a built in "on access" scanner, just use that. McAfee virusscan enterprise is pretty good and keeps out the way.

As for as Sophocles statement it is not zonealarm security that is causing the problem

No it's probably Zonealarm's firewall which is part of ZoneAlarm security. Zonealarm forcefield is a net browser application, integrated into Zonealarm firewall which also controls application behaviors during and after installation. I was only trying to make a potentially helpful suggestion.

No your wrong I can load zonelarm suite since I have both and it does not do it. As stated even though it does not look like it the problem is with forcefield service iswsvc. I can even disable the forcefield in services not just stop it and it will work every time. The service ISWsvc is a forcefield service not the firewall. I can even turn off zonealarm which turns off its firewall and forcefield but does not turnoff the forcefield service ISWSVC, and even with this done rebuilder.exe will do nothing. Funny thing is that turning of zonealarm toff turns off the truevector internet monitor for zonealarm but it does not stop the ISWsvc service for forcefield. Do not understand it but you cannot have the ISWsvc service running and use dvdrebuilder.

It works for me!!

Being the computer nut I am I removed zonealarm and then rebuilder would start.

Been there, done that, and it was always related to ZA firewall.

I then found that if I just went to services ans stopped forcefield iswsvc service from starting then rebuilder will start.

Does that also stop the firewall? Can you end one without the other?

stopping the Iswsvc service does not stop the firewall. I even tried removing zonealarm again doing a clean removal and running registry first aid and reinstalling but still the same problem. The is just something with Iswsvc service that does not like the rebuilder.exe. I have never seen it when a program woulds stop another from starting at least not without causing a event that you could see in the event viewer but with Iswsvc running I can click on rebuilder.exe or its shortcut as many times as I like and get nothing it does not show up in the task manager or cause a event.

I just downloaded and installed forcefield and it does block BD RB, but the problem is with forcefield not BD RB. A few months ago I installed a Zonealarm update and it stopped my HP Laserjet printer at work from running. I uninstalled Zonealarm and the printer worked. I reinstalled it and it stopped once again. I suspect that for now you will have to choose between forcefield and RB or continue to turn it off in services. You could place a shortcut that will at least speed that up.

Thanks for trying it at least others who have the problem will now know it is a problem and it does not take much time to stop the ISWsvc then start rebuilder. forcefield also blocks keyloggers maybe there something about rebuilder.exe that it thinks is a keylogger. The problem is that forcefield does not tell you anything about what it blocks or way. Its zonealarms forcefield problem maybe they will fix it I will let you know what techs support says.

per zonealarm support they found the same problem.

Thank you for contacting ZoneAlarm Technical Service.

I do apologize for the long wait for my reply.

Thank you for the link - I downloaded and installed the dvdrebuilder program on a few machines here and have been testing it. I am having the same issues using ForceField that you are experiencing.

I have escalated the case and will let you know as soon as I hear back on what could be causing this issue. Again, I do apologize for any inconvenience or frustration.

Hello,

We apologize for the long wait.

We have logged a bug for your issue.

If development can fix the issue the earliest it could be fixed is in the next major release later this year.

This is the latest update from zonelarm on this problem. It has been logged as a bug.

Later this year? It would appear that their care factor is somewhere around zero.

The "If development can fix the issue..." statement tells me they haven't even bothered to check if its a minor fix, or a major one.

Based on that response, I'd dump ZoneAlarm... but that's just me.

Based on that response, I'd dump ZoneAlarm

I would if I had the extreme package or at least move down to their security suite. I have a triple license which is good until November and the problem is only with ZoneAlarm EXtreme. That being said a ZoneAlarm update killed my printer driver on my Laptop which left me having to uninstall it to get my printer to work again.

Zonealarm uses the kaspersky virus engine. Have there been any reports of kaspersky reporting false positives with DVDRD?
