View Full Version : Convert VOB Subtitles to SRT?

Hey guys,

I tried using SubRip, but it just shows symbols and I need to skip each and every character on it. I keep pressing Skin Subpicture and it moves on.

Could anyone get me an easier converter/ripper?

Thanks!

Demux them as a sup file. Load into DVD Sub Edit, run OCR and then convert to SRT. Open your SRT in an editor to fix any minor errors.

You don't even need to demux the SUP file. You can load the VOBs directly in DVDSubEdit.

You can use SubRip to fix some errors of the SRT file produced by DVDSubEdit. It has some interesting functions (for example to distinguish between lower case L and upper case I, or to convert two single quotes to double-quotes.)

Also, if you have a text editor with a spell checker, use it!

Thanks for the DVDSubEdit, but I am having problems in SUbRip. It keeps giving me symbols instead of characters. I think it's a problem in that particular DVD9. By the way, it's my first time ripping subtites.

The DVDSubEdit method is much more simple, but if you want to use SubRip, then start from scratch. Do NOT select any character matrix. Keep entering the characters it highlights. It will recognize them later. That's all.

Blu, please move this thread to the subtitle forum.

The problem is it doesn't recognize any characters. It just highlights weird line symbols.

What subpic stream do you try to convert? If they are normal subtitles, they should contain (mainly) standard ASCII characters!

Can you post a screenshot?

@th3obr0

Hi!

When you say "VOB subtitles", are you referring to the subtitles on a DVD?

If so, there's no good reason not to use DVDSubEdit...

If the subs not are hardcore DVDSubEdit is perfect to use , but if the subs are hardcore then DVDSubEdit can not read the subs. Do anybody have a alternativ to how to read/edit the hardcore subs on a dvd??

I'm not sure th3obr0 wants to rip hardcoded subs, or standard subpic streams. For standard subpics, DVDSubEdit is the easiest solution, but it works on standard subpic streams only.

As far as I know, the only program that can theoretically convert hardcoded subs to text is SubRip. But, in this mode, it is extremely difficult to configure. You have to play with a lot of parameters. I have never had any real success. And, of course, SubRip cannot remove or modify the original hardcoded subs.
