It works great, Did my first backup of Moulin Rouge, Just hit the go button and woke up the next day to find two bins, burned them, watched the movie and it was flawless, couldn't tell the difference.
Thanks guys for such a great backup tool!!!

Yeah it's a great program but itsn't moulin rouge 120 minutes and high action? 2 cds is pushing it a bit I would think, even with 5 pass VBR.

Two hours of video even with 224 KB sound is about 1590 Kb. I've done some withn a bitrate as low as the high 1400's with about 64 -65 minutes of video on each disk in a 16 to 9 encode. It looked OK - Below this, IMHO, I start to notice a dropoff in quality. 4 to 3 encodes need more bitrate, however. I guess everyone has their own "acceptance level" for quality ..

Yeah I agree with Matthew on this one. I feel anything below
1800 kb/s is not that great, i've done over 40 movies at this point, and still havent found 1 under that bitrate I have liked. So thats my experience if people can enjoy under 1800 kb/s for a svcd more power 2 you.

Maybe I got too excited, hey, it was my first time, anyway, the movie is 127 minutes long, 16:9, 128 audio bitrate sterio, nothing else special with 5 passes VBR on 2 80min CDs. DVD2SCVD says the bitrate of video could be 2045 - 1607???
I didn't think it would be good at all actually, I have seen plenty of rips on the internet and some have been BLOCKY, but I just didn't noticed that with this rip of Moulin Rouge.

128 bitrate audio? I guess it's just me, but I don't go below 192.
But considering you wanting to put it on 2 cd's I can see your point.
I am really picky and I don't like anything below 192 audio and 2000 Avg video. I have to add a third or fourth CD on most of my encodes though. I am doing a video now thats 110 minutes long and that is going to be on 3 cd's. The third will only be 2/3's filled though.

Slick yes I have no Money. I went nuts over the Black Friday sales after Thanksgiving. I got over 200 blank CD-R's for $15.00.
Staples had buy 50 for $15.00 get $15.00 back in rebates.
Best Buy had buy 110 for $29.99 get $15.00 back in rebates.
Circuit City had buy 50 for $20.00 get $20.00 back in rebates.
I was up at 6am in line at Best Buy that morning.
I also got a scanner for $10 and 128mb of memory for free.
I haven't even broke into my second 50 pack of IBM disks I got from Stables when they had 100 CD-R disks for $20 sale last year.
Even after all my buring I still have over 160 blank CD-R's. Just look around and be aware there are always great deals on blank disks. Just never waite until you need them. because there are never sales then.

Sorry about the post Mark, I wasnt being serious. can we put it down to british sense of humour?
I can appretiate the predicament you & anyone else may have.
I just wish I could contribute what you do to this forum.
my sincere apppologies if I offended in any way.
(although I wish we could get deals like that in the U.K.)
I do a similar thing, I recently bought 15 packs of 10 x 80min disks for £90.00 from morrisons on BOGOF (buy one get one free) So I got 300 disks for £90.00 ($63.00 USD)urmmm according to my maths thats cheaper by $27.00 isnt it.(£37.80))
"Please check these calcs I've had a drink"
christ it would be cheaper for us to ship them to you from the U.K.
O.K but we cant buy scanners + memory for £14.50 "can we!" ?
I thought you got things cheaper in the U.S.A.
:)

Don't worry I wasn't offended at all. Took it as humorous and not any other way.
Just wanted to post the way I got so many blank Cd-R disks for cheap.
I also got paid $10 to get a CDRW drive. They price matched a competitor and then there was $70 in rebates. $10 more then I paid.
I think you math is wrong isn't the British Pound worth more then $1?
I thought it was like $1.50 for each Pound?
So Your 90 Pounds would be like $135.
So if my math is right you got 300 disks for $135.
That makes each disk .45 cents each. 100 cents = $1.
I paid $15 for 200 or 7.5 cents each. Granted these were huge sales.
I can normally get 100 CD-R disks for around $30-$35 or 30-35 cents each.
I always wanted to go to the Motherland. My family came from England about 250 years ago. Considering I don't fly it's kinda hard.

Average bitrate would be ~1550 according to my calculations. The 2045 comes from the first figure in the range (~100 mins) so it's irrelevant.
As moulin rouge is a musical, you should really use 224 audio.
I'm really surprised there wasn't blockiness (that you noticed anyway), haven't seen the film but from what I gather it is rather fast moving. Maybe you have an ultra-crap television?:p

I used 1.4 (christ I didnt think I had that much 2 drink!) :p
I used (USD/Unit) instead of (unit/usd):(

Ok, now I am doing Jurassic Park 3, same as above with the specs., the movie is only 92 min. I want to put on 2 80 min. cds again, any idea if its gonna turn out OK?
DVD2VCD give me a bitrate of 2235 for 92 minutes.
markrb

joesloppy that bitrate looks fine. That must have been with 192 audio and seriously thats the lowest you should go. You won't loose much in video with this audio rate. If you even want more video bitrate you can either cut off the credits when you rip if their a seperate chapter or overestimate the video bitrate a bit and they will end up on a third disk you never burn. I do this all the time when the credits are not there own chapter.
Take the bitrate that DVD2SVCD gave you, in this case 2235 and raise it by 100-200 and set your audio to 192. Set your MAX to what your player can handle, you can find this at www.vcdhelp.com and set your Min to 800 or leave it at default. You do have to set the number of disks up 1 from the default, but if you set a Max AVG the average bitrate will not exceed that. You do risk putting more then just the credits on the last disk, but once you get a feel for it you can do all movies this way. Why anyone would want a copy of this movie I will never know, but then again I am like the only person in history that liked Battlefield Earth.
Slick I really don't know where excatly we came from. My Dad used to always say the Bates pub in London is owned by a distant relative, but that could just have been BS too.

mark, is the last chapter always the credits, or does it include some of the movie itself? If it's just the credits, I'll unselect it before I rip.
Matthew

Obviously my name's not mark but I'll answer anyway :p
No the last chapter is not always only the credits, it depends on the release. Usually this is the case though (and even then there might be some final images while the credits are playing, e.g. a gay blooper reel). So it's a good idea to check using a standalone player or powerdvd/windvd.

Yes always check first. I always use PowerDVD to check before I do it. About half the movies I have done the last chapter is just the credits. Sometimes you may not want to get rid of them. Jackie Chan movies always have funny stuff during the credits and sometimes there is extra stuff after the credits like in A Kights Tale.
