I just arranged to get an HP Pavilion AMD Phenom Quad Core for one of my grandchildren.

Among other things, it contains an NVidia GeForce 6150 SE onboard graphics controller.

Without regard to the extremely stringent "requirements" listed by the Cyberlink "BD Advisor" , does anyone know if this graphics controller is adequate for BluRay, etc. playback?

The GeForce 6 is no good for Blu-Ray, but the X4 will do the trick. It is more than enough to handle Blu-Ray ;)

Unfortunately, no, that graphics card will not support hardware acceleration of VC-1/H264 video decoding.

Pretty much you have to get an 8000 series or higher for NVidia.

Right. You should be perfectly fine with CPU-only BluRay decoding.

The question then becomes - where will you watch these movies? If you're thinking an LCD monitor - fine. If you're thinking a larger HDTV, you might need an HDMI connection. DVI->HDMI cables are cheap though :)

Before it packed up an expired I had a crusty Geforce 6600 on my quad box. It wouldn't play 1080p worth crap even though there was plenty of cpu power. I dropped a $50 Geforce 9500 in, exact same setup, updated the graphics drivers, and now it will play everything I throw at it.

Now that we've installed the system for the grandson, I'm pleased to advise that not only does the system playback BluRays beautifully, with no delays, skips, judders, etc., but PowerDVD v.7.3 doesn't even complain about the supposedly deficient graphics controller ;.}

A quad core is more than enough to play back 1080p.
Have fun with the new system!

Hi!

Yes, as I've said, everything is well!

The reason I was somewhat (pleasantly) surprised was that a couple of posters to this thread stated with certainty that the system would not properly process 1080p.

My eldest grandson (I purchased the computer for him) is thrilled that they were wrong ;>}
