went to EVR last night. This solved all my tearing problems I had! No more d3d fullscreen needed.
Some questions because I m new with EVR:
- Where is the EVR buffers for and do I leave it on 5 (default) for best results?
- Where is the option lock back-buffer for and is it best to leave it OFF (default)?
A general MPC-HC question:
Why is none of my media starting in Fullscreen? I always have to double-click in MPC-HC to make it go fullscreen. I have ENABLED launch files in fullscreen but this doesn t help.

EVR buffers store video frames, it's like "buffer underrun protection".
"Lock back-buffer" is to reduce tearing.
If you are using Enhancer winamp DSP plugin with ffdshow that's the reason, even if enhancer window is closed it will still steal focus.

Casimir said that >5 was useless

Casimir said that >5 was useless
If he said so why not reduce number of options to 5?

I suppose the buffer is the gpu's memory, so if your gpu can handle it use it all! (subtitle buffering in beliyaal's build uses the same buffers as evr. (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1253648#post1253648)) Likewise haali renderer can use up to 256mb of video ram for buffering.

using too much cache creates unnecessary latency...and possible lag, the way I see it at least ;)

With my previous GPU (GF 6800GS 256MB) if I used more than 140MB when a 1080p video was running at 60frames the playback was not fluid or even with frame drops, with my 9800GTX 512MB that does not happen. Maybe it was related to memory bandwidth (38.4 vs 77.2GB/s) and heavy memory utilization?

I personally use HR w/ 6 frames cache in 48/60Hz, 5 in 50Hz and everything's fine
using too much cache is pointless IMHO, and Casimir confirmed it :o
the RAM bandwidth doesn't really matter from what I've seen, filling the cache is dependend on the CPU speed mostly.

old topic :)
what are the advantages of using EVR instead of VMR9 in XP?
