Hi,

I've made some compilations of FLAC music files all from different artists and intend to burn some CDs with them.

The problem is the audio levels all differ, which is really annoying during playback, one song needs the audio turned right up then the next blares at you really loudly and you need to turn it down.

Clearly I need to normalize the volume of all the tracks. Now this would be easy enough if dealing with one track but the minimum I've got is ten, all with varying audio aplitude levels.

Is there any way I can normalize the whole lot to the same or similar aplitude levels? If so how and using what (preferably free) software?

Thanks.

You can use Foobar2000 to calculate replaygain stats for your flac files. Then, again with foobar, convert the flacs to wav files ready for burning to cd. If you apply replaygain track gain when converting them to wav then they should all come out at the same (perceived) volume.
